CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Clark's (Chevy Chase) toboggan ride on a waxed saucer goes horribly wrong.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Chevy Chase, star of National Lampoon's Vacation and its sequel, is back as the paterfamilias of the Griswold family (including Beverly D'Angelo as his missus) to skewer the Yuletide season. Chevy mugs, trips, falls, mashes his fingers and stubs his toes as he prepares to invite numerous dysfunctional relatives to his household to celebrate Christmas. Amidst the more outrageous sight gags (including the electrocution of a cat as the Christmas tree is lit) the film betrays a sentimental streak, with old wounds healing and long-estranged relatives reuniting in the Griswold living room. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was still capable of attracting an audience five years after its release -- it was one of the top-rated seasonal TV specials of 1994, outrating even the first network telecast of It's a Wonderful Life.

Amazing how far Clark went and the trees and terrain features he went through and Eddie and the kids could still see him hit the box in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
I love how he goes on and on about how the plate is now plastic so it's not as strong, and his biggest concern isn't further damage to his skull or brain, but that if the plate is dented, his hair won't look right. Eddie is the best

The first time I viewed this I nearly hurt myself laughing so hard. My grandma who is a home health nurse thought her client was going to have a heart attack laughing so hard.
Especially the bit at 1:54 where Clark nearly ends upside down with the comedy sound effect... I can remember rewinding that part of the vhs rental over and over again until it got a little crinkly 😂
My favorite movie growing up and I think is still is......I can watch it all day long!!!! Good old humor....
One of the best scenes in this movie by far! My brother and I used to crack up when we’d watch this scene! This movie is definitely one of my favorites! I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched it over the years!

It's one of those movies that everyone can enjoy. I remember watching this on television one holiday season when I was still in high school. My Dad started watching it and to my surprise he actually laughed through the entire movie with me. He particularly enjoyed the anti-Christmas yuppie neighbor scenes always saying "Oh boy, *those* weirdos-what's gonna happen now?" Great Christmas memory for me.

I think Wal Mart was only in the south until the early-mid 90s. This must be one of the first times it was in a huge movie or tv show...I miss the old logo with the dash.
Back then, they weren't open 24 hours. Nor did they have a McDonald's or a Subway inside of it. Mine has a Subway.
Not all Wal-Mart stores were located in the south at the time. Their very first store opened up somewhere in Missouri in 1962. And this movie was filmed on location in Breckenridge, Colorado. Even though the Griswalds are living in Chicago, Illinois. And the writer and producer John Hughes always had his movies take place in Chicago in the 80’s and 90’s.
Scenes with the Griswalds’ house and neighborhood was filmed in the back lot of Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, California.
We had them in Illinois and Indiana too back then Wal-Mart was just another chain store you'd find in small towns and cities, it wasn't the behemoth that gobbled up every small town store. There was one in every nearby town but my hometown didn't get one til Sept 2000 when I was 14.
It wasn't til mid-90s when K-Mart and Wal-Mart doubled their store size and started putting 'Super' in the name. And still remember when they built or opened the Super K-Mart in Terre Haute and almost 20 years later the store finally went out of business.
In the southwest we got Walmarts in the mid eighties and they were much smaller then the super Walmarts. Back before they had subways and McDonald's inside they had small snack bars with nachos, hot dogs, popcorn etc.
First time I saw this I remember thinking, "What's a Walmart?"
