  • At about the same time her idol, swimmer Kaylee McKeown was winning Backstroke gold at the Paris Olympics, Toowoomba swimmer Lisa Richards was making a huge leap forward in her own Olympic journey.
The 14-year-old swimmer from Miles placed second in the 100 and 200 metres backstroke at the Australian Schools National Swimming Championship, emulating McKeown who swam the same program eight years ago.
Lisa has her sights set on competing at the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 but hopes to also be ready to compete in Los Angeles in 2028.
But as she explained to the ABC's David Iliffe, it all started with a swim coach in Chinchilla who spotted her potential and a family prepared to make sacrifices to help her achieve her goals.
