  • Alex from Source drops into the studio to show us how you can use DFAM's (drummer from another mother) and Mother-32 as live performance synths and demonstrates some of the different kinds of sounds and sequences you can get them to make.
    Moog are well known for their all-analogue goodness, both these models are semi-modular, so can integrate and be powered in full modular racks, or work standalone or together, each modulating or controlling aspects of the other device.

    Add the Subharmonicon to the mix and you got a banging live musical experimentation system - I’ve got the trio and get lost in them for hours!! Awesome 👏🏼

      Personally I have a six input interface so I use the software mixer of my interface

    I really wish and hope you make an album around these techniques, literally some or the nastiest shit I have ever heard

    Best example I’ve seen - this made me choose this setup over the Analog Rytm MKII :)

      Euphemia Adamson I’ve had an Analog Rytm MKI and sold it because I intended on getting the MKII when they first announced it. I mean they’re great, but you know, one year later, I have some money to drop and I think 2 DFAM’s and an M32 would be the better option. The sound and live use of this combo just seems so easy to achieve over the Rytm. I find with the Rytm you have to really sit down and spend time curating. And in regards to the M32, I definitely wouldn’t go out my way to buy one if it weren’t for this demo. The combo seems absolutely perfect for what I want to achieve. And yes, totally agree :) what a time to be alive

      Euphemia Adamson Oh wow! I bet that was a great experience? And I absolutely agree, the instantaneous, and spontaneity a device can bring is something I’m striving for. It’s taken me a good couple of years to figure out my live setup and how I’m going to approach it. And another hardware option that interests me is the Erica Synths Techno System. My current setup consists of Richie Hawtins Playdifferently Model 1 mixer, 2 x Native Instruments D2’s (Which I currently want to trade for 2 x A&H Xone K2’s), and my Pad Pro running TouchAble Pro. So I want expand on this and add a little live element to my track selections. I figured I could keep one D2 for stems and layer this with the above Moog combo and perhaps create whole tracks on the fly with Erica Synths Techno System. I don’t think I want to entirely sway away from track selection because people still want to hear other artists, and for me, it’s extremely important to keep supporting other artists. Anyway, the K2’s excellent faders will be used specifically for Ableton’s internal mixer for better mixing control and layering. God bless Ableton Link.

      Euphemia Adamson I would loved to have gone, trust me. Oh my, I’m extremely jealous you even touched the Techno System, man. I’m in absolute in awe over this piece of kit. I know, right? I’m dead set on it too and I’ll do whatever it takes to buy it ha-ha. I see it as a little investment in myself anyways. I totally agree, the drumbrute actually looks pretty good to be honest.

    That's some funky and cool stuff with the one DFAM sort of following the M32's sequence, and the other one doesn't. Nice, very nice.

    What is being tap tempoed at 11:20? Is it the effect from the H9? or is the H9 controlling the bpm of the moogs? Also how do you do that from a phone?

    I also flinch from saying I play Techno, by saying "sort of... techno" because the Techno genre is so judgemental :-)

    • @nephildevil
      @nephildevil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's actually the most experimental genre, compared to psytrance or hardcore or whatever which have tons of unwritten rules

    • @AsselParty
      @AsselParty 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nephildevil Compared to psytrance nearly every genre is experimental :D
      But "hardcore" has many subgenres and interpretations that are actually pretty experimental (Breakcore for example).
      At least definitely more variety in speed and rhythms :)

    Why is it, that 80-90% of what modular / Eurorack people put out, is atonal, dissonant... crap... to be frank... ?? Is part of the microtonal movement or what?
    I have a DFAM myself, but just because it's difficult to tune, doesn't mean I'm all of a sudden meant to churn out weird muzak...
    Oh, my ranty nature. Sorry. I'm probably just envious that you have TWO DFAM's :D

      It's just techno man. Techno isn't really about melody, it's more about sound.
