    I’ve got loads of favourite channels on TH-cam, yours Craig is now my favourite even though I’m only a hobbyist and will probably never perform to the public. You are so generous in sharing your ideas with us please keep this channel going even when things get back to normal.

    Great show. Love these! Been performing for 35 yrs and I honestly think a well performed silk to egg is one of the most magical effects you can perform

    I specialize performing magic shows for children’s events. My opener starts a running gag that I use all the way to the end of my show. I tell the children that we all have to baby sit Melvin The Monster. Melvin is a stuffed animal that sits on a Lota Bowl. Between some of the tricks during the show we check on Melvin and empty the Lota Bowl. I never say it but the children yell out Melvin is peeing. During my show the children keep on asking me to check Melvin. At the end of the show I check Melvin a couple more times and Melvin and I take a bow. I credit this idea to Presto a magician from New York City who I saw performing this at Tannens Magic Camp in 1975.

      I absolutely love that Lota bowl idea. Best use of that prop I have ever seen. I bet it brings the house down.

    I start my show with a bottle production. I use the "how many fingers am I holding up gag" like you did here, but under a handkerchief. When they get it right, they get the bottle as a prize. Not only is it quick, visual and funny, but it also means I give out something of value at the start of the show. I have no difficulty getting volunteers after this starter.

    19:15 -
    “.....Thea, if you ever need a magician, who you gonna call??”
    “.....Daddy??”
    “Good Job.”
    That was genuinely funny, SUPER cute (Thea may just as well have “I Adore my Daddy” tattooed across her forehead), and a lovely touch!!

    Love your channel and love how you stand your ground on the cafe forums. Your advice has been nothing short of brilliant and like you've said before; you're helping other magicians for nothing but gratitude. It's fully appreciated and even more respect for you. Any tips on how to get my 9 year old son more interested in practicing his magic? I've tried to teach him and had him yet to follow instructional videos and such and he just seems to lose interest even though he wants to learn.

    Craig - do you ever have a problem with smearing with the tape measure trick, meaning, leaving small stray black marks where there are not supposed to be any marks?
    Note: Joshua Jay explained this trick and explained it on Penn and Teller's special last summer of 2020 called "Try This At Home Too".

    • @magic-tv
      @magic-tv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did have a problem with it years ago but it was because of it type of pen I used. When I found the right pen it wasn’t an issue at all.

    • @michaelworsham2724
      @michaelworsham2724 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@magic-tv OK Craig, that makes sense, since not all pens are the same. Could you possibly please share with us the name and number of the "right pen" you found that works? Thanks.

    What is your opinion on changes the top of the Vanishing bottle for a cristal one? In idea to allow you to tap it and enforce the assumption of a solid bottle. I want to start performing a closeup version with a vanishing sharpie and an envelope

  • @aaronsmith7644
    @aaronsmith7644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A common rebuttal for using silk to egg as an opener, is that it's not a good idea to open a show with a sucker effect. I'm not saying that you shouldn't, I'm just wondering what your thoughts on that are. Thank you for all that you do Craig, your channel is absolutely incredible.

  • @muppetonmeds

    Hey Craig I've had my eye on outstanding now for awhile how hard is it to do and is there a lot of memory work involved because I can't tell you how many tricks I have that I have to relearn when I switch back to using them anyways nice vid and Thanks.

    Close-Up, Up Close Vol #2 by Joshua Jay (Heightened Senses)

  • @Aarglefarg

    The tape measure trick is Heightened Senses from Close-Up, Up Close Vol #2 by Joshua Jay.
    In Silk to Egg, I think it's best to think of removing the sticker as the actual moment of magic, and cracking the egg as the proof. Make them think 'no...' and then show them 'yes'.

    • @muppetonmeds
      @muppetonmeds 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree I think the sticker gives it more of an illusion that the egg is slowly morphing into an actual egg rather than a quick change.

    Silk to Egg is a classic effect, I think it plays stronger with the spot not as a sticker but actually made out of a layered silk material stuck onto the egg with blu tak etc.. the same as the hanky and they look great, As an opener I find 4 mins 10 secs as in this clip way to long for an opener and way too much talking, it seems strange to open with an explanation effect before you've actually performed an effect....but each to their own, I find in corporate events a faster version less than 3 mins and in the middle of the show an explanation about how to perform a trick plays stronger, but again thats just what Ice found works for me as Craig mentions

  • @jeffbrent

    For the tape measure trick Joshua actually teaches this on his instragram for free. That’s where I learned it more recently. It’s on his Instagram lives under Joshua Jay ok try this at home. He’s with Penn and Teller.
