You said - oh, it's so cold. -1/-2 it's not cold at all in Latvia. We had winters with -34/-36 C ! And snow ap to your belly . This year we had warm and snowless Christmas.
Yes, those are the so called "Bremen musicians". This is a fairy tale that Latvians sometimes read as kids. And, an interesting fact, the Teutonic Knights who came to Latvia, many of them were from Bremen. You're supposed to rub the snout of the animal which you can reach.
Here is not cold it is warmest winter n years normaly here in this time is -10-15 and even in november we can go to do ski and snowboarding in country side
Great video! You should visit Old Riga in the summer, on June 21-24 there is a Midsummer market on the Dome square and the weather should be better and everything lighter, with lots of singing and flower wreaths.
I am sad that we had no snow this Christmas. It only started to snow now (at least, in my city Cēsis). I can't really remembered the last time we had this warm and dark Christmas. 🤔
That sculpture is a piece from the fairy tale about Bremen musicians by brothers Grimm. Animals are - donkey , dog , cat and rooster. It's a belief that if you rub the noses of animals you'll get a luck. If you can reach the one on the top your luck will be enourmous :)
The statue with animals - you have to touch each animals nose for good luck! thats why the first ones colors are rubbed off but the rest are less "used" 😁 also -8 was the death of me even as a latvian cause -1 was extremely deceiving in those cold days cause of fckn wind 😂, in reality i had to check all the time how the temperature felt in reality, ugh.
@@MrsUnderwriter Yes, I agree, Lido is not that good as under the Gunars Ķirsons ownership, but still they offer a very good meals! A lot of Latvians still enjoy meals at Lido, including me!
In the Latvian military they told me that there is no such a thing as cold weather. There is only wrong clothing. You guys obviously have bad clothing. Would be ok in october Latvia, but not for December. You should meet local people who have sauna and fireplaces the ones who celebrate Solar Solstice time in the right place not on a street. Have a good time and buy a wool hat and socks finally!

That statue of a donkey with a dog, a cat and a rooster is called "The Town Musicians of Bremen" after a German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm.
And it was a gift to Latvia

Yep, You're right!
This Christmas market tradition has been going on for many years in Riga now. This market is not super flashy or glamorous, but it is home like.
Hi! You need gloves, hat, and winter jacket with hoodie. Happy New Year! 🙂🫶

You need hats, guys. LOL You can pick up hand knitted hats and scarves in many places in the Old town, as well as the traditional Latvian mittens.

And Lunch and Dinner are very tasty at LIDO restaurants, not expensive and very very tasty!
Latvians do not go to LIDO. It is no longer what it used to be.

Why dont you buy a hat? Haha
Dude! Keep your head warm! If you see the locals wearing beanies there is a reason for it!
In Latvia when the air is humid -1 or -3 feels more unbearable than -20.
It is not cold. Cold in Riga is -35 Celsius
-3 is 23 degrees. we find 23 to be warm in the winter here in Chicago.
This year it is abnormal warm winter. It should be at least -8 to -12, with lots of snow. Not cold at all. Those Kids are not dressed for the weather.
I feel freezing just watching you guys, although I'm from Latvia myself. You definitely need some more serious clothing, at least hats.
