Thank you very much for demystified Nahanni NP! Spectacular sceneries, dangerous rapids, unmolested campground, majestic wild life… 33 minutes was an eye opening for me
I found your Edziza video and then got recommended this one... what a fantastic looking packraft trip! Some of those rapids looked intense. Thanks for sharing.
Really great video. I loved every minute of it. My dream vacation for sure. I thought ur only allowed to go with a guide I those big rafts.? How were u guys able to go by yourself? That's what's I wanted to do. Did u walk around headless valley? I noticed you took a lot of the rapids out ....😮 that's the only thing holding me back from the trip...I heard crazy waves? I was wondering how much a trip like that cost ...I'm in ontario canada
@@ChrisM-o4s Thanks! The park allows self-guided trips. We saw a few self-guided groups, although perhaps most people go with guided trips. We didn't walk around headless valley. That would be cool, but we didn't have enough time to do everything we would like. When we went the WW was all below class 3, not extreme, but also not total beginner either. The charters / boat in/out were under 10k, which is not too bad when spread across 5 people (IMO).
Nice video! Really nice to diy and cut out the exorbitant cost of a guide. Do you have an opinion on which raft(s) had the best marriage of being able to carry enough and feel whitewater worthy? Also, how many in a group would you say is the minimum to be safe? Did you have any resupply spot or did you manage to fit in all your food? Thanks.
Thanks for the questions. All of the packrafts worked great! I would recommend one with a cargo fly and spray skirt. With that, there is no problem carrying 2 weeks worth of food and gear. I think the Alpacka Expedition was an especially good match to the conditions, but a standard alpacka series boat worked great too. I used an alpacka gnarwhal, and it worked fine. Group size will depend on experience. If you have at least 3 boats, then if someone swims, one can help the swimmer, and the other can get the swimmer's boat.
@ thanks for following up so quickly! I was thinking of getting my husband the self bailing gnarwhal with dry suit since he doesn’t like the confinement and we do travel in predominantly warm weather/water. But that expedition does look nice.
@@climbonrrg Yes, the gnarwhal self-bailer+drysuit will work fine as well. It is a bit more work to paddle a gnarwhal on flatwater, but not a big deal (I did it w/o problem).
We had a range of Alpacka and one Kokapelli. They all worked great! I'd say that the Alpacka Classic and the Alpacka Expedition were especially good since they have whitewater decks, but are not as specialized to whitewater as the Gnarwhal, which I used.
We didn't have any self bailers, the green model was manually emptied after a set of rapids. That's actually OK for our conditions, although admittedly not ideal. The big yellow raft is a kokopelli, and it also worked fine, but I don't know the model. It has a deck, not self-bailer. Also, although there is whitewater, we had mostly a flatwater trip. The biggest water was 4th canyon and George's Riffle. ( Lafferty's Riffle can be mostly avoided by going left.) We did have very low water, easy conditions. Rapids will be bigger at higher water levels.

Thanks for the comment forestyforest. Glad to hear people are checking out some of my other videos too!😀
Very much enjoy your Edziza video and channel, btw. Great adventures!

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤WOW SUPER FANTASTISKT GRATTIS SANTA LIVET ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Cool trip. Thanks for sharing.
What part of the valley did all the crazy stuff happen and absolutely beautiful video can't wait to visit here one day
Thanks Brent! At our water levels, the biggest must-run rapid was George's riffle, followed by 4th canyon. The rest was lesser, or could be avoided.
@@SteveRuuthSJR absolutely amazing 🤩
Been wanting to go up there since I first saw the Mel and Ethel Ross footage from years ago. Apparently they saw drawings in some of the caves.
Interesting..will check out the video. Hope you have the chance to make it out there soon. A favourite of mine for sure.

A must view for Nahanni fans!

It's almost impossible to find videos or even pictures of these parks in Canada that are not easily accessible. So annoying lmao. Great video
Thanks Gotworc.
Which packrafts did you each use? Which ones worked best?

@@SteveRuuthSJR Thanks; looks like the self-bailer was useful with all the wave trains. What model was the yellow packraft?
