Aww thank you! I don’t really style my videos as tutorials but I try to include as much of the process from start to finish as I can! Sometimes the best way to learn is through simple observation ☺️ Thank you, that rooster is still one of my favorite pieces!
There is actually no paint on him at all! Just fire side cherry timber oil on his comb and the rest of the body is torched, sanded, and sealed with Spar! I do almost always thin my paints though! ☺️
Thank you so much for these videos. I am another woman artist and I have wondered about this craft. You see people carving at fairs but usually they are doing the basic work. I now see how many expensive tools it takes to accomplish these works. You work is fantastic. I don't think I can afford to take it up as an art. But your are an inspiration to this old lady
You don’t need all the dance tools, most of mine are the cheap ones from Harbor freight! I started out with only two tools and stayed that way for awhile! One $90 electric chainsaw and a $10 angle grinder! I was able to achieve a lot with just those and only recently expanded my tool collection this past winter :)
Perfection at its finest Tay! What a realistic Rooster. I bet the chicks which were adorable couldn’t tell he wasn’t real. Haha. Love the choice of music, always do. Your carvings are always a fantastic surprise. Blessings cutie! AMAZING!!! 🫶🏻 P.S. Love seeing all the tools in use. I wonder why I feel a connection? 😊
When it comes to royalty free music there aren’t many good options 😂 I just put in whatever songs matches the vibe I’m feeling in the moment, it’s never planned lol! And yes, I love my tools 💛
Awesome job! Random question. When you get green/wet logs in and you know you're not going to carve them up for a while, do you do anything to preserve them and keep them from cracking and splitting? Like do you seal the ends with anything until its time to carve them?
Nope, I don’t do anything, just chop them up into smaller chucks (anything from 16”-48” long) and put them upright on pallets so they can start drying. Where I keep them is shaded all day, they never see direct sunlight. I try my best to get as much bark off as possible too. I like when my logs start checking prior to carving them, let’s me better plan where to put the faces. The wood is going to crack no matter what you do, so I just find it best work with the cracks instead of chasing them. But I think the 100% shade is the key, most of my logs have barely checked by the time I’m read to carve them and most have been sitting for 6 months or longer!
All I can say is i hear him already waking me up early in the morning... What...this isn't a real rooster 🐔... This is a carving... well now I've seen it all ...lol Quality work young lady... quality work...
Great job Tay! I too really enjoyed seeing all the tools at work! And…reminds me of Looney Tunes rooster named Foghorn Leghorn, who always said “I say” lol. And He’s a Dad already!! Too cute. Thumbs up everyone. Hi Nami! Keep those chicks corralled and safe from the coyotes!
Hi, that turned out beautifully. The chicks seemed to think it was real :) You mentioned you no longer have it. If you don't mind, can you say approximately how much a perfectly detailed piece like this would sell for?
My prices change based on martial costs and demand, but to give you an idea, today something like this would run around 500 and up depending on the level of detail desired! I'm always pushing myself for each piece to be better than the last and evolving my skills :)
I still love my Oregon saw and often use it for texturing and what not! It will be used a lot more during the winters when I’m trapped in my shelter! But the gas saws are actually a few pounds lighter and a bit faster so I find myself grabbing them more often! I’ll be adding to the collection soon too! Need a larger blocking saw for some big projects coming up!
@@TayMarie23 good point, ive got a cheap make electric saw and recently acquired a battery saw, which is good but i really need another battery for it. haha theres always things to add to collection, ive had my eye on that really small echo saw, and a 80+ cc saw for the big logs like u say. plus id love to try those manpa tools. expendable money is always the issue though. keep creating Tay!
The echo 2511p is on my grocery list this week actually 😉 hahaha! Yes the manpa tools are so cool, would love to try them as well, but I’m in the same boat finance wise haha! Getting two pro saws this week and my soul is already leaving my body 😂
@@TayMarie23 Ah really? you've ordered it? super jealous! you will have so much fun with the detail bar on that saw! 😋Haha, i feel you! whats the other pro saw your getting? sorry always interested in what saws and tools carvers use :)
Didn’t order it, just called my local Echo dealer and they have one in stock! I’m picking it up tomorrow actually along with a 501p to use as my new blocking saw :) I’ll put an 8-10” dime tip on the 2511p once I get the sprocket to convert it!
Unfortunately no. In High school I was always too busy with sports and in Nursing school I was also a full time athlete, the universities nursing tutor, and ran some clubs so just never had time for art or hobbies! So I have many years of pent up art being released 😂
Hands down the best tutorial on the hand work and finish work on utube Ive seen so far.. For all beginners you have helped many.

Omg yes! I was asked to make a rooster recently, this will be very helpful. 🙂 thanks Tay! ❤️
Oooo perfect timing! Stay true to your lines! Their heads are a bit tough, they are much smaller then your think they are!
I love your carvings Taylor! You really make them come alive!
Thank you so much!
Nice Job TayMarie. I see that you're sporting 2 gas chainsaws now your really going to town and it's showing. Good on you keep up the great work
I’ll be adding more in due time, never too many saws 😂

Excellent rooster…fantastic job thinning your paints too, nailed it.

They always look so real, sweet job as usual thanks for sharing🐔🐔🐔🐓🐓
I appreciate that! I’m always looking to make them as realistic as I can :)
Отличная работа! Один совет, стамески использовать до гриндера, а если после, то кромка тупится об абразив. Сам делал такие ошибки
Thank you! The chisels are new to me so I appreciate the advice! Learning as I go 😁
Awesome. Looks like it could just start pecking the ground and crowing!!
that's a fine Rooster you have there young lady. 😉Well done.
Thank you 🤗
Brilliant vid as usual

This carving took forever to sell and sat with me for about a year, when it did sell I was a bit sad! This one took a little piece of me with it 🐓
Good job on saving the video! Oh btw The chicken isn't to bad! =P
Took me three fulls days to scrap that video up hahaha 🥴 Thank you 😂
@@TayMarie23 Keep up the good work

@@TayMarie23 Thank you so much for your reply. It is hard work and you are obviously mastering the skill.
Nice, great work yet again Tay. Hows the petrol saw workign out for you btw? bit easier to block than the electric you had?

Tay, that is a great job blocking out that rooster and the staining color combination couldn’t have come out nicer! It’s a ten for attention getting
Thank you so much! Since it was my first time carving maple I wanted to keep him as natural as possible!
Your work is getting better and better.
