My daughter was traveling thru Scotland and Ireland. She told a group of rowdy Aussies in a pub one night that the next time they ran into another Texan to shout out “The stars at night are big and bright” and on queue they will clap three times and sing “Deep in the heart of Texas!” They didn’t believe her. She ran into them again a week or so later and sure enough, it was true. If you’re a Texan, not a surprise at all.
Texas is the only state that teaches Texas history till 8th grade! I know more about Texas than most people do about their own state. its crazy how proud Texas is but its awesome!
It’s crazy. Even today I’ll watch anything about the Alamo, San Jacinto, general Santana, etc. then compare it to the real story. Except for the siesta, we might have lost. lol
What are you talking about. Most kids have to take one semester of their own state in middle school. I’m surprised you dont remember that. My friend was sad that her kids were having to learn Virginia history instead of Texas history when that move away from here. SMH. 🤦🏻♀️
We don't really count destinations by mileage, but by the number of hours to get there. It takes 13 hours to drive from Dallas to El Paso, and about 3.5 hours to drive from Dallas to the capital in Austin.
I’ve driven between Houston (home) and Dallas (relatives and college) 100’s of times in my life and have no idea how many miles it is. I just think in hours - adjusting over the years to changing speed limits and reliability of my car at fast speeds.
Is that not normal or something, lol? I've lived in Texas my entire life and that's all I've ever known. I know how long it takes to get most places, but I don't know the mileage at all.
I love Texas. My husband travels the country for work and I am lucky enough to be able to travel with him. No other place is like Texas and we get homesick quickly. We are definitely proud, and a lot of us are more fiercely loyal to Texas than the USA itself. American by birth, Texan by the grace of God.
Thank you for your service! My brother is about to retire from the military and while his family still plans on staying in Virginia for his kids' sake, I know he still calls himself a Texan. He says the things he misses the most is the Tex-Mex and I don't blame him lol.
I was stationed in Alaska for three years during my Army career. Everyone changed their state of residence to Alaska to get that Permanent Fund' check. The only soldiers who refused to change their Home of Record was us Texans. Our Texas citizenship is NOT for sale!
The U.S. has a Pledge of Allegiance, but Texas also has its own pledge. Here is is: "Honor the Texas flag, I pledge allegiance to thee. Texas, one state, under God, one and indivisible."
When my husband and I went to Europe and people asked where we were from I responded, ‘We’re from everyone’s favorite country. Texas!’ It was fun to see the reactions.
As a resident of San Antonio Texas he got 99.9% of everything right the 0.1% thing he got wrong was that we do not say we are North Mexico, down here we are South Texas PERIOD. No one around here has ever used the term North Mexico
RGV born and raised, I've never heard the term northern Mexico for us. In my opinion, calling San Antonio south was always a bit of a stretch, I always considered it central.
a Brief note here.. I live in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area (DFW). Texas is the only state in the US that has the Authority to regulate its own power grid, and still reserves the right to leave the United States, legally, and without an act of congress. As the Largest state in the "Lower 48", we have the largest variety of Manufacturing, and some of the Largest Data Centers. With SpaceX moving here a couple years ago, we are second only to "Silicon Valley" in Technological, Aerospace, and Biomedical innovation, and research. Oh and we love our guns... The best fishing, hunting, and water recreation in the US can be found here.
Some experts predict that by 2030, Texas will be the eighth largest economy in the world, surpassing California (which is in decline -- mainly due to their mentally deficient governor.)

I'm a Tennesseean born and raised. I know about Texas pride. My mother was born (1922) in West Texas and raised in East Texas. She talked about Texas all the time. Every time she made hamburgers, she served them with the words, "These are Texas burgers because they have mustard on them." She missed the bluebonnets and always tried to grow them here in Tennessee but failed. When she and Daddy bought land after their marriage, she told Daddy she didn't want any flat land. She wanted some hills. The land wasn't flat, and there were some small hills. She missed Texas till her dying days.

Native Texan here. I can confirm that everything said in this video about Texas is accurate. We Texans are a friendly bunch, in fact the state motto is "friendship". Come on down and visit if you want BBQ or Tex-Mex. Both are delicious. We absolutely have a lot of pride in our state. As for Austin, yes its more of a quarantine zone where refugees from California, and people who wish they lived in California live. The rest of the state views Austin as weird, which Austin embraces with the slogan "keep Austin weird."
We're Texans! We love God, we love our country, we love strong men and real women, and we love our guns. We help our neighbors, and we will defend our borders. Texas is a great state with great people.
Not all Texans feel that way, bro. Cookie cutter is not for me. I love sentimental men and strong as fk women. Defend as you wish, but try living a Texas life without tacos and burritos. 🤪
Pure Texan here, and my father was born in Pennsylvania. He called himself a born again Texan. When I lived in Europe, 49 other states would say they were from the US. Everyone from Texas said that they were from Texas. I always found great pride in that.
Heh, and my Mother found that saying she's from Texas tended to have more positive associations than "American." When folks hear "Texas" they tend to think of cowboys, blue skies, and lonesome prairies.
I traveled internationally throughout my career and consistently had the same experience. I always told people I was from Texas and hundreds of people over the years told me only Texans do that, instead of saying U.S. first. Always made my heart swell.....
This was me stationed on Sicily .. The locals would ask me where I was from . Me : I'm from TEXAS. Everyone knows where Texas is ... Nobody knows where Columbus Ohio is .
I was born and raised in Texas and I had never heard of some of the regions this gentleman described. I have never heard of Northern Mexico or Western Oklahoma. No true Texan would admit either of those. We are panhandle, East Texas, West Texas, South Texas, and I'm from Central Texas. It was very fun to see your reaction to the different things that I'm quite used to here. Texas not only puts their slogan of the star on their overpasses but they decorate in artful ways on their interstates. You can tell immediately that you've gotten onto the Texas roadways! You travel out of Texas and you start wishing that other states would put money in their roads. Thank you for a very entertaining look at my home state!
Yeah, I live outside Amarillo, and the area is called the Panhandle, *not* Western Oklahoma. It is also part of the Great Plains, and sometimes identified as the Llano Estacado, which is also a pretty cool bit of history to look into.
Native Texan here. I had a friend I worked with many years ago who was also Texan. In high school he went to Japan for foreign exchange studies. He said that when he had to introduce himself to his class and say where he was from, he said "I'm from Texas." The teacher replied, "Why do all Americans say 'I'm from America', but only Texans say the state they are from?"
I was born and raised in Texas and once took a tour of Europe. At an entertainment venue the Master of Ceremonies was interviewing members of the audience, asking them what country they were from. People were responding, England, Germany, US, etc, but one guy replied Texas which resulted first in laughter but then applause.
Texas is a land like no other!!! I’ve lived here since 1977, and will be here until I die! I’m a Southern woman, born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, but by GOD’s grace I married a Texan who only applied for jobs in Texas after graduating from college! I helped contribute six Texans over the years(4 sons and 2 daughters) so I consider myself an honorary Texan.
Fun fact: six flags have flown over Texas. (That’s how Six Flags amusement parks got its name.) The six flags are: USA, Mexico, Spain, France, Confederate, and Texas (we were our own country once).
The Republic of Texas existed for 9 years until Texas joined the United States on Deceember 29, 1845. Back then Texas was bigger. Texas use to cover the entire state plus portions of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming.

My dad is from the Texas Panhandle and yeah I've heard no one call that area other than the Texas Panhandle. He's from Andrews which is about 30 minutes north of Odessa. His family was all spread out that area. When he joined the Military though he ended up in SA where he met my mom (who's an SA native). I haven't been to that area in over 10 years since my grandma and step-grandpa moved to the Houston area to be near my 2 uncles since the grandkids and great-grandkids are there. I really miss it too. Had wonderful memories there. My dad was the one to tell me it was a known fact there are more oil rigs than trees lol.
A bit of Texas trivia, the Texas flag is the only flag that is allowed to fly next to/level with the American flag. All other state flags must be flown under the American flag.
Born in Texas. Have lived here all my life! Everything is bigger in Texas. You might be thinking of the song "Amarillo by Morning" by George Strait. The locals were having as much fun meeting the kids as the kids were having. Our reputation precedes us.

7th gen here (at least from one side). I have wondered where our Pride Originated from and I wouldn't be surprised if it started when Texas's forefathers won the war for Texas Independence. The odds were stacked against them, but they persevered. Who wouldn't take pride in that? And then having to survive this harsh land for so long. Our state didn't see a drastic increase in population until AC was invented. I have such admiration for my ancestors for what they lived through and I do take pride in that and hope I can do them proud in some form. I try to by 'paying it back'. We may be different from the South, but that Southern Hospitality was still drilled into me from a very young age, so I enjoy helping others.
Native Houston Texan here. I’ve always been very proud to be a Texan. Texas is just different, is geographically a southern state, but we aren’t really considered “the south.” I know some people get butt hurt when Texans are so proud, but we just are. There’s a person in this thread who rags on Texas and Texans every time it’s brought up. I guess he’s not as proud of where he lives, and resents our big pride in our great state. That’s a shame really. I hope everyone loves their own state. That “new California” label always irks me. Californians discovered that Austin is somewhat similar to California (in that it’s more liberal), and homes are more affordable than where they lived. They are moving there in droves, and want to call Austin new California? How about no. Great reaction Lewis, and thanks for the love you show to Texas. ♥️
Has nothing to do with a lack of pride in one’s own state - we’re just able to identify and call out the delusion 😂 you’re definitely a different state than all of the others… but, you’re still definitely considered part of the south as a state in the southern United States.
I’m in Texas. Damn I don’t even find myself saying I’m in America that often. Texas is capable of being its on country. It already feels like it at times.
Not sure there are many people in America that actually find themselves saying they’re in America on a regular basis - it’s already understood by literally everyone in their right mind.
We were all created from the constitution as independent COUNTRIES that united for common cause and support. When the federalists took control, that all flipped. Texas still has this mindset.

You are 100% right! lol

Every time she made hamburgers, she served them with the words, "These are Texas burgers because they have mustard on them." She missed the bluebonnets and always tried to grow them here in Tennessee but failed. When she and Daddy bought land after their marriage, she told Daddy she didn't want any flat land. You have Southeast Texas, East Texas, Deep East Texas, Central Texas, North Texas, Central Texas, West Texas, southwest, Rio Grande valley Texas, and lastly, Panhandle Of Texas. This guy was doing really good up until that point! Cheers mate!
The Texas Hill Country.
Don't forget South Central TX. I've NEVER heard of the Panhandle being referred to as "West Oklahoma" and have trouble believing anyone who says "I'm not Southern, I'm Texan" to also agree with being "west Oklahoma"
Edit: Also, born and raised SA-Town..... Never heard the area referred to as "Northern Mexico"
@@AcousticKittyI could be wrong but I think his Western Oklahoma comment was meant a little tongue in cheek and not really serious just like Corpus being “Northern Mexico”. Like they aren’t referred to as that but have so much shared culture they might as well be called that.
Bro I said the same thing I have no idea where this guy got "North Mexico" or "West Oklahoma" from, blew my mind
@TexasRigged exactly. I've come across a few of these videos and there are some "absolutes" that people will say in the video about Texas and I'm like "almost 4o years in Texas (my whole life) and never heard of that"
I’m half Chinese, hillbilly German descent, 6 foot tall 300 lbs slanted eyes black hair with a red beard. When folks ask where I’m from, I proudly reply , Texas born and raised with a thick draw.
I'm a 60 year old native Texan born and raised in the piney woods of east Texas. In the great Angelina National Forest. Now residing in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. One of my favorite sayings is, " I wasn't born in Texas, but i got here as quick as I could!"
Texas pride! You can go almost anywhere in the world and say you're from Texas and they know.
It's like a universal pass of "ight you cool, let em in the bar"
As a Texan, I can tell ya: just being a citizen here makes me feel big. I've been to 8 states and 2 other countries. This is the place.
8 states and 2 whole countries got it figured out, huh?! 😂
I am from Atlanta and I have relatives in the Dallas, Fort Worth area, Grand Prairie, a nephew near Waco but even folks from the south and Georgia have never thought of Texas as southern. It goes way back and a lot of us older folks see Texas as the original West, the original Cowboys.
Houston and eastward was settled by people from Arkansas and Tennessee. Stephen F. Austin's father, Moses, was from Connecticut. No wonder Austin isn't like the rest of Texas! Lol!!!
@@RachaelLeeThornton And one of our greatest Texas Heroes, David Crockett is from Tennessee lol. But we still claim him for what he did. He died a Texas hero.
I’ve lived in Texas all my life, everything is bigger, we are the best state, we are better than the other southern states and we basically own those other states”southern states” we touch down the furthest so we win. TEXAS #1 !
So so proud to be from Texas and not ashamed to admit it!! Don't mess with Texas!
Commenting from Texas, this video nails it. All true. There are people here who (semi-)jokingly want us to become our own country again at times. Having lived here my whole life, I do think that Texas is the most independent of all the states and proud of it. Almost disdainful of "lesser" states. When he started talking about Atlanta I couldn't help but think "Bless your heart". IYKYK.
I love being from Texas. It’s like being from a different planet. The planet of hospitality! ⭐️
Texit is becomming a more popular idea. Texit is the initiative for Texas to break away from the union to become its own indipendent country. Thats right! You may see a new country appear to the distant future.
Proud Texan right here!!! Everything is BIGGER IN TEXAS!!!!
LOL. Nope.
Mostly the egos.
People get so butt hurt when you say that🤣 It’s true though.
Even when I travel internationally and people ask me where I am from, I don't say the U.S., I say Texas.
Why?
@@Yohoo272 us Texans generally identify more with our state first than with the US as a whole more so than most other States in the Union
Texans 100% consider themselves Texan. We don’t dislike the south or the southern moniker but we are very proud to stand alone.
Amen Brother!
I moved to Texas from FL two years ago. Best state in America 🇺🇸
Born and raised in North Texas, 52 years. Good video. Known as Texan. We consider it the United States of Texas.
A Texas beer company had a slogan on billboards around Houston.... "Texas, making fun of puny States since 1845"!
If you ever listened to Walton & Johnson radio show in Houston they used to play this ad all the time😂😂😂th-cam.com/video/SDmQVhPfiqA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tiGs67StX3L3UY0r
😂😂😂😂
Native Texan here. Enjoyed your reaction to things that are Texas. We don't call the area "New California" unless in criticism. We call it "Central Texas" or part of the hill country. The Texas Pledge of Allegiance: "Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee Texas, one state under God, and one indivisible." If you every get a change to come visit, I think you'll enjoy it!
From the Birth place of Texas Independence, Come and Take is pretty much the equivalent to FAFO. We dare you, sounds like fun to us.
I have lived in Texas my whole life. I’ve traveled to many other states. And Texas has the friendliest people by far. Nothing like driving down the street and people waving from their front yards just because. Hello Texans! 👋 proud to be a Texan.
This video is very correct. As a native Texan I am a Texan first
Texas girl here! I've lived in El Paso, Killeen, San Antonio, and most of my life in DFW!!!! I will say I'm a Southern girl, but will quickly say I'm from TX, but most will already know from my accent. My cousins and friends who live up North have told me many times that my accent gives me away. LOL!
I’m out west of Killeen :)

Yup, if the question is asked, Are you Southern? It's always yes, but I'm from Texas.
Vacationed in NY once. My accent (which i dont think i have) gave me away as Texan
Mate, them handlebars on bike are called APE HANGERS. Comes from Harley Davidson Chopper genre.
He is correct I am a Texan Texas is a country in itself❤ God Bless Texas❤📖🙏🕊️
I'm from Ohio, Texas is not the south Texas is Texas. Good ole boys. Hard working gun toting Americans
Hard nosed football players too
Texas born here, but I lived in Ohio for like six years in the Sioto River Valley area. I miss the hills and the trees during fall, and the winter snows. But Texas is home, always.
There was an Embassy of the Republic of Texas located in London and there is a plaque still there to this day at No. 4 St. James Street.
Wow, I did not know that. How cool.
I not know if the old Republic of Texas Embassy is still a Texas restaurant today but it was a few years back. ( My daughter studied abroad and visited London. When she came home she told us about eating at the Texas Embassy.)
Chances are, that embassy is going to be needed again. Texas just passed a bill to coin its own money.
Texit, is happening.
@@ThePresidentialTouch They have also been working on their own stock exchange as well. Not sure where they are with that.
Two of my granddaughters were traveling in Italy and Spain. Whenever they were asked where they were from, they always answered ‘Texas’ and never the USA.
Texas was its own country. We are the only state that joined the United States by treaty in lieu of purchase or conquest. We are also the only state that can fly our flag at the same level as the Stars and Stripes
Yes, us Texans are very proud to be Texan. It really is a different way of life. I live in the birthplace of the TX flag so both the USA and Texas flags all over. They give away free TX flags at our community center too. Thanks for the video Lew!❤
Yes I'm Texas American, but I don't think any taxes going to get mad about being called southerner. I love the South too play a little part of it. But I'm definitely Texan born and bread. You can put down my cousin, uncle and my aunt just don't say anything bad about Texas. Don't mess with Texas.
I also live in the birthplace of the Texas flag!
I also live in Montgomery Tx
I was born in South Texas but that's about it, I now live in Central Texas Hill country. Im a Texan bro.
