Yeah, EVERY one of my wiring jobs is a horror story. 🤣 I'm kind surprised you didn't use some of your grandfather's brass to make the nut for your niece. I know the brass is probably more of a pain to work, but it is part of your family legacy - and a differentiator for anything you've made. Oh, and don't worry about the pickups - a reasonable amp will solve that issue, with maybe a boost/ overdrive pedal in front of it. Maybe a nice Metal Zone for that chainsaw sound? 😋
Haha, I know that feeling. Just redid some wiring that I had done back in 2016 and oh boy was it a hot mess😅 Yeah, I thought about it, but not for this one. My other niece is starting up playing and she does have a guitar with said brass nut. And the pickups ended up sounding great, as you'll find out in the next video😉
It was a lot of fun fixing up these poor poor pickups.
