When I was at college, they had professional grade Inkjet printers which were very slow and printing something on time was almost impossible. Then they moved to high speed lasers, and nobody ever waited more than 5 minutes for their printing even at peak times, it's strange that you mention long queues for the printers, I guess they've reduced the number of printers available now...

Seems like a missed business opportunity - rush out to Staples for a $100 laser printer then charge folks 50c /sheet. Okay, maybe not a business opportunity but with a little gusto you could knock $25-$50 off your costs for the printer. Unless of course printers are on the list of appliances you can't have in your campus apartment, in which case please disregard.
