I have a 66" 30 kohler super z and have had NO problems out of it in any mowing conditions as we live in the country and have different terrain. Ride is a functionof the seat and the tire pressure and cut is related to your blades.. Best mower out of Skag, Exmark , Dixie and Ferris.
Hi Stan, the grass is a mix of weed, bermuda and other "stuff!" We'd had a HEAP of rain around the time of these early vids so the ground was fairly soft but, the ass end of the SZ is very heavy which doesnt help with that drift or crabbing. The angle on that slope is around 25deg.
Your right about hitting those clippings but, there was a lot of them! As you know its been a bugger of a year for me with rain and now drought. I have no problem with the way the deck handles that type of situation, its when it clumps with average grass that I have the issue with. I didnt start complaining about it until everything settled down cutting what I would consider normal (and better than normal) grass that the problem really showed up.
Have not seen any of your other vids. The main issues I had (no longer own it) it would just knock the grass over, it did not want to cut the grass. The discharge was horrible too. The discharge is another issue Hustler is aware of.
At about the 8:25 mark or thereabouts, you hit a thick patch of clippings, and it sounded like it loaded down that big Kawi? You def have some tough conditions that many of us here never have to deal with that often. Looks like the deck is discharging pretty well with little windrowing all things considered.
Thanks buddy but as long as I stay focused on what Im doing, its pretty easy stuff. If there was a drop off at the bottom or fence etc I wouldnt be doing it. Its never come close to rolling. It will slide before that. Anyway, thanks for watching!
I think Im on the right track but a bit more to do I reckon. Check out Mowing with a 2011 Hustler Super Z Pt2 In settings choose mid size window and 720p and 0.25x Click the load line thing at 4.08 & play. The clippings come out nicely but look at 4.13 & 4.16. You can see how the clippings load up, most gets spat but some looks to get caught up and drops to the ground. As you know, think its getting caught on the the rear of the chute hench why Im trying to make it not do that with the mods
I went to my dealer to ask for the number, I was told they do not want it given out because "they don't want to hear people complain". Check the web, you will find plenty of forums with people having the same issues with the machine. I was told by the rep before I purchased it that it weighed about 1200lbs, after my lawns were being crushed, I looked up the weight....1515lbs!!!! I was so pissed. Either the rep lied to me or didn't know the product he was selling.
Main reason was to get the clippings off the slope. Other was going up that steep of a slope cutting that much grass puts a lot of pressure on everything. You can hear it bog down a bit when I first go up it. But main reason was to get the clippings off it so its easier to clean up later when it dried out. That slope has been poisoned and mulched now so no more mowing! Thanks for watchin!
(1) While the seat, tire pressure and blades can be the cause of issues, this was not the case with this mower. The seat is the best one Hustler offers, tired different tire pressures and the ride quality did not change. Many other things can cause a poor ride. One of those things being, how the frame is made and the placement of the wheels. As far as the cut quality, I tried almost every blade there is. The problem is the cutting deck itself. The deck does not create proper vacuum to .....
Pros.Good power, hydros un matched, ok ride with the flex forks, deck lift better than previous models. Cons. Fuel tanks suck. Heavy, hydro system expensive to service (here anyway), thirsty, no flex seat. The biggest issue I have is the discharge (clumping and windrows) even on normal length grass. If your looking to buy one make sure you demo and cut real grass on your properties in various situations like a little longer, damp/dry etc. Good strong machine but hate the deck
Hey MH, Stan (from LS) here, how are you? Looks like you were doing a little "drifting" on the 1st lap on the hill! What type grass is that you're mowing? Thanks Dude! :-) Stan
(2) lift the grass to give a quality cut. This is a problem that Hustler is aware of. They make a baffle kit that is suppose to "fix" the problem. If you read reviews of Hustlers, you will find many dissatisfied customers with past years mowers. Hustler has struggled to design a deck that cuts well. Along with all theses issues, the mower weighs too much. It was killing my yards. The customer service I received from Hustler was nonexistent. It was the single worst experience I have ever had.....
If you didn't already get one....DON'T!!! I bought one, biggest turd I've ever had. The ride quality is horrible, you'll get bounced so hard, you'll look like an old man getting off the thing after a longer ride. The cut is the worst I've seen. I'm actually in the middle of dealing with the mfg co to see what they can do. The customer service from Hustler is horrible. I had to search the web just to find a number to call. They don't put one on their site....What's that tell you.
couple really strange things i'm catching her - very specific , and usually no more than a second to 1.5 seconds of the video is sped up. whoever did this took the time to really pick the spots where playback at a higher framerate than recorded would not be noticed ,,,, well WRONG! almost always when people manipulate flame playback rate , ESPECIALLY like was done here but in only specific spots. its really makes me wonder - why would they do that? what is being hidden? is it just to show this extremely heavy grass was mowed so quickly? nice job though regardless
(3) trying to resolve an issue. As far as you saying that Hustler is a better mower than Scag, X mark....I strongly disagree. I have owned Toro's for years (Toro owns x mark) and the Toro is a FAR superior machine. It would be like comparing an old Chevy to a new Mercedes. There is no comparison in quality. Everything from spindles, welds to the fit and finish is hands down better with the Toro. While I have never owned a Scag, a close friend does. Again, no comparison....
Sorry, missed your post! What country are you in? Have a look on lawnsite.com. theres a Hustler forum in the "sponsor" area. I personally like the ride but Ive had all sorts of dramas with the deck. Can I ask what are your issues with the cut? Are they similar to what Ive shown in my other vids?

Theres a rep on there (sub forum) and also a way of letting others know your problems. Theres quite a bit about the SZ on there as well.
Ha! These are all vids from Feb this year so there not exactly new. Thanks for watching!
Heck Yeah about time you made some more videos of this beast.
Have not seen any of your other vids. The main issues I had (no longer own it) it would just knock the grass over, it did not want to cut the grass. The discharge was horrible too. The discharge is another issue Hustler is aware of.
What model ?

Just saying, I would get a exmark turf tracer because I would hate to see you get hurt! :) Great video!
I know you have morre testing to do yet, but are you thinking that the solutions you've come up with so far are getting you at least close now?
Sounds like you have an older, XR7 machine. A lot of people having problems with the VX4. Check my other vids.
Thanks, will be sure to do!
Looks like a great mower! Looking to get a super z. Would you recommend? Pros. / Cons.?
hey mick i would love to see some of your other equipment you have!

I don't understand why he mowed that way when the easiest way would have been to go up and down the slope

So what kind of mowers do use? Dixie Chopper, Toro, and just Hustler?

Sounds like you need a 997 diesel,
How long have you had the machine and where are you? (country)
Man U let that grass get to high
Thats what happens when you get a month straight of rain. On top of that, any dry days gets spent on customers lawns, not my own!
+Mickhippy yeah I hear ya

Your saying Toro over Hustler ? How does Hustler perform on rough terrain ?
Sorry, missed your post! What country are you in?
