About a year before Eric signed and helped finally get us over the line! Not winning it in 92 in hindsight might have been a blessing in the end as they learnt from it and they might not have got Cantona had they won it that year! Also great to see sir Matt on this 👍🏻

Mike Eyles I think you’re right. 91/92 just wasn’t our time to win it. And Eric was certainly the missing piece.

This is the perfect example of giving a manager time to make a difference and what a difference. I hope arteta can emulate even half of what fergie did for united

@@mangofangoe315 Arteta seems to be doing well at the moment and turned a corner at Arsenal. Time and patience is the key in football particularly with how split the fanbase was on him in 2020/21.

@@stevenattias1803 We wouldn't be the club we are today that's all I know. We could've been similar to what Everton are today but you never know in football. Maybe we would get a top class manager in the 90s and he'd build a successful team. Maybe some Oligarch or wealthy Arab owner would buy this club who knows. In the 80s we were seen as a big club nowhere near as big as we are today but still big not many English sides had won the European Cup then. However we had a massive drought without a title in the 80s we were relegated more recently then when we last won the title.

@@ReubenSempleJones I agree with your assessment. I am a late follower of the United. I didn't become a fan until 2003 when I was 29. I made a friend in Manchester in 2001 from a UK AOL chat room. I visited her in Manchester in May 2003 right after the United won the premiership. I became a big Beckham fan and just my luck he we was sold to Real Madrid. Then about a year or so later the New York Yankees station YES Network signed s deal to air United games. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I became an avid fan with having the United App and Peacock and Paramount plus. Apps I could follow everything. Plus content on TH-cam. I have learned a lot. I played soccer in the late 1970s when I was little. All I knew was Pele and the New York Cosmos. Lol

@@stevenattias1803 You are alot older than I am. I grew up watching players such as Rooney. I'm from the South of England so I probably shouldn't be a United supporter but I am. If I'm being honest I probably wasn't the best answer for the 80s question anyway my guess is just from watching old matches and seeing where we were finishing in the League. In the 2010 World Cup I was only about 7 at the time they were selling packs of cards at the petrol station of England players. The first player I got was Rooney and I remember being told he was a good player. From then on he became my favourite player and eventually I became a United fan because of it. I'd say I got into football late for English standards most people get into football younger than 7 but that's because we are a passionate footballing country. I was unfortunate enough not to get into it earlier to watch Ronaldo play for United so having him join United now is a blessing.

Tommy Docherty: if they don't win it this year, it could be a while before they do. ( They didn't, and it wasn't, 12 months to be exact). If Docherty knew what was happening behind the scenes.. he would have never said that. Most people in the know knew that even if they did blow it which they did, that it was coming
