🤣🤣🤣 In other words, you've never set foot in the Jack London Inn (aka the No Tell Motel). A lot of the other vacant buildings are office space; at least this one won't have to be reconfigured much for residents. New paint, carpet and furniture . . . and FUMIGATED, absolutely!

From afar people are advocates for homelessness but upfront they are all NIMBY. These are not new problems that area is dealing with. If the homeless people are to live in the shelter then they will no longer be unhoused. So saying 100 unhoused people are moving to Jack London is not accurate. Car break-ins in Downtown and the town have been going on for years let alone they are ran by car theft rings - not homeless people.
Typical NIMBY Everett Jones BBQ isn't great BBQ Service is hit or miss Perhaps this is the reason you're seeing less customers To blame the houseless and housing in Jack London is a deflection from the real issue
i love jack london and shelters but not sure if it should be together. maybe pick a place also. w a grocery store nearby for all their shopping needs. jack london is restaurants and entertainment but no grocery place near it
The residents probably wouldn't have more than maybe hot plates and small refrigerators in their rooms, as installing dozens of new kitchens would cost a fortune. More likely, the city will just build a central kitchen somewhere on the premises and serve daily meals. The Alameda County Food Bank also operates a lot of food banks in Oakland; it wouldn't be too difficult to arrange a weekly delivery to the hotel.
Right? Why would homeless people who live right there break into cars when they'd be so easily located? That's just an excuse for the restaurant owners' snobbery.

The entire city planner for Oakland is full of it. There’s so many places to build homeless shelter but why in Jack London Square. The city planner is full of it. For example they limit the vehicle lane in International Blvd from 2 lanes to 1 lane keeping one entire lane for the bus only. They just intensify the traffic as the bus doesnt use it very often. It creates accidents as other drivers pull the vehicle out to use the bus lane. Oakland: no hope at all. Let it falls hard then.
Jack London Square is hardly Pier 39. And the homeless families who'd be living at the shelter would almost certainly be an improvement over the hookers, pimps, drug dealers, and other characters who've been in and out of that filthy, sketchy hotel for decades. But they can afford overpriced barbecue, so it's cool. ◔_◔
Great... and we just booked rooms at the Jack London Inn :/ We've stayed there before, not really a great place but it's a place to sleep none the less. We're just there to catch some Zzzz then take the ferry into the City. Jack London Square is actually a nice place from what we remember, but I know times changed a bit after Covid. Praying our windows don't get broken into, hell maybe we'll just leave the windows downs :/
It dwindled because there food isnt good it was a long time ago i use to go all the time the meat quality is terrible and there customer service sucks too and they take forever
I don't have statistics, but I don't think homeless people are breaking into cars. I've seen where it's people with cars who have someone on the street looking for worthy items, the car comes up and they smash and grab and jump in the car and are gone in less than a minute. Also understand business owner concerns. Will there be services provided for the homeless like food stamps, mental health services?
I left my plate unattended at e&j and some old guy pulled his mecedes suv over and was ready to bag it up. "Im not finished with that!" Dude limps back to his ride.😂
People complaing about homeless issues and how the city anc state isnt doinng enough. Then when they trying to get something done hypocrites complain and hiw they are better than them so they should go else where? So where do these people belong then? Just selfish.
I'm not sure why people would be scared of homeless people. I would like to see homeless shelters in the nicest neighborhoods in order to create equality for all. They should also be in all the shopping centers so the homeless can have a chance to get items they need and look for work if they need to work.
It's crazy because obviously these people wouldn't be okay if the homeless shelter was near their homes so they compromised and put it near no schools or single family homes but now people don't want humans to be provided with sheltered if it compromises their favorite BBQ 🙄
I am homeless, but no drugs, no mental issues. I was planning to move to Cali close to beach because it is easier to live there, and I can relax little bit. JLS has been doing a great job of holding events for families and visitors year-round. Why jeopardize that? Yes, shelters are needed, and there are multiple options along Broadway and other streets that aren't next to an entertainment square.
Why? You'd rather have the traditional parade of hookers, pimps, and dope dealers staying in that sketchy hotel? At least now the city will have to clean out all the rats and bedbugs.
Maybe to help them get back on their feet so they CAN take care of themselves. If you're struggling to pay rent, there are services for you too; you can apply for an EBT card, hit up your local food banks, and get low-income discounts on gas, electric, phone and internet service, and healthcare Catholic Charities will help you cover the rent in an emergency.
Is it gonna be a migrant shelter? Down town has been flooded with illegal migrants lately, I hope what happened in Chicago and New York doesn’t happen here.
