I kinda disagree with how Cult of Luna ends Mariner (de grand finale from Cygnus). Somehow, Mariner doesn't feel like the album which should have a grand finale. I think Cygnus would've made more impact on me, or for that matter Mariner would've made more impact on me, if this track would be on the cd as well. For me, this track is the perfect closer for Mariner, maintaining that 'travelling through spacetime'-feel yet a bit calmer... Love the track, think it's a great album closer. Shame they didn't put it on the jewel case versions as well
4 years too late but I agree with you 100 percent, chief. I wouldn't have bought the LP version if it didn't have Redshift on the D side. Probably my favorite song on the album. Reminds me very much of the closing sequence of 2001 Space Odyssey. Leaving behind the envelope of known space and sailing into the vast unknown. The true dark emptiness of the void.
Respecting your opinion/taste, but I think that Cygnus is too good for not to end the record. This would have been the perfect intro in my book though.
When and if i ever causually travel to the edge of existance in my home made spaceship (out of moldy wood and bathtubs), i will eject myself thru the sidedoor* (my autistic brothers spiderman blanket*) and and press play on my walkman, sending this song to my ears via AUX (GOTG-style) and enter the colourless nothingness. It will be a good day. But until then, ill just continue listening, imagine and plan for my trip. Note to self: Dont forget the Tom and Jerry crackers. Epic!
I just listen now to the first 30 sec. and reading the first 5 comments makin me thumbs up and leaving this comment while listening on and its fuckin me up unbelievably well...its really hard👌🏼
I would give my life to hear it live, its untouchable
If it took just twelve minutes for the world to end...
This is like watching A Space Odessey again for the first time, every time.
4:18 gives me chills every damn time....
Oh the feels
this is epic.
If I made a movie soundtrack this would be in it!!
@ me when it finally gets added to streaming services
Thanks 👍🏼❄️

It's on the purple Japan CD release as the closing/bonus track, so the jewel case version you want does actually exist. ;-)

Probably the best comment I have read. I do not support hyperbole.

Its a vinyl bonus track.
