- The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder tells Kate Snow about how a “terrible business situation” nearly crushed him, until wife Nikki Reed stepped in to negotiate a path out. Ian has now launched a bourbon called “Brother’s Bond” with on-screen brother Paul Wesley.

He literally talks about Paul like an actual brother off screen. That's beautiful.
They pretty much are by now. Paul said last year at a convention that he doesn't even really think of Ian as his friend, he's family. 💚💙
It takes a lot for a person to admit what they went through. Proud of him and Nikki.
Nikki saved him and stuck by him when no one else did and he wanted to give up . I'm happy they found each other at right time that they needed each other .
I love that we see Ian as just a normal human being like us. I was tired of the whole fan base of TVD making him out to be this dream boat bad boy all the time which isn't real. And some tend to blur the lines. Here he's just one of us, makes financial mistakes and cares about his family. I can actually respect that
He is so enlightened. And so young. I am impressed
How this brightens up my boring day! I love to hear Ian talk and for a change an adult conversation. Not the weird questions on the conventions people ask. I admire this amazing man and Nikki Reed so much, they do great things. And I learned a lot from them. Hope to see many more of this posts! I can listen to this for hours. Hope to be able to buy the Bourbon soon in Europe so I also know what all of them are talking about. Thanks so much for posting this!
He's very open and honest about such a big mistake. It was the collapse of the gas and oil industry that pushed it over the edge and he would up in the hole to at least 10 million. He was in the hole and broke...it also caused financial issues with ISF according to their 990. ISF still has a failing score after 2019 due to financial data on charity navigator. Other than V-Wars he hasn't had any acting jobs in a couple of years.
V-Wars was a good show, but Ian should have started to play a tougher character much earlier than the last few minutes of the last episode. The little boy had more courage than his father. For me the show was too much child-concentrated. The dominant figure should have been the doctor and father. The main issue to solve the pandemic and genetic changes worldwide. You have to listen, what the audience wants to see, if you want success. Or books readers want to read.

I was checking the classmates website where I noticed a famous students list section and he showed up along with my friend Theo Von, lol I knew him as Theodore and nope I had no idea about his whole Theo Von persona. Now I know what happened to my friend Theodore.

But it is time to get up again, Ian. You had been burnt down, but that was years ago. You created your own Bourbon, okay. Never ever should a drug dealer become addicted to his own stuff he sells, so leave the alcohol alone and start to work again! Get up, man! You do have a family to support! You are still to young to act as if your life is over. Staying at home hiding yourself shyly in the trailer, drinking Bourbon. Come on! Concentrate on that what you're good in and let professionals take care of things they are good in. You got into trouble by thinking, you can handle everything without advice. You are so incredible talented, with such a great heart, but somehow you do not know exactly what to do with it all and make wrong decisions. The best decision would be to learn, who is trustworthy and who is not. Get into shows and movies again, but focus on strong (!) but nice or funny guys, with a little bit action and clever remarks. You are a much too kind and nice person to play season after season, for years, bad guys. You can play them, but your real good personality will start to shine through sooner or later. Very many famous and strong actors in Hollywood had huge success playing comedies as well.
I think he could have helped himself get out of this situation it’s not like Nikki is some sort of financial genius!!!

He's drunk doing this interview the interviewer was obviously shock with the curses he's mouthing.
He curses alot not just in this interview.
"i had to fight tooth and nail" next sentence. i was in las vegas drinking at 11pm and had to learn 8 pages in a few hours. so basically fighting tooth and nail to this guy is pulling an all nighter? wow
I would not bore/annoy ian on his social media and say come back as damon! or are you coming back as damon?, cause im sure he has heard that to the point he is physically ill from hearing it, however I would be curious to hear exactly what projects/character roles he has been offered post tvd/v-wars cause im looking at his credits on imdb and wikipedia, he dont seem to really have much going on, idk if he is retired or on hiatus or what. And that isnt me interferring with his personal life, like trying to find out about his love life and if he is hooked up with nina dobrev is interferring, me wanting to know his next project for me to watch him in is not that. Cause basically my point is if there is bait to hook him in to come back as damon and yet he isnt being offered roles it might make him reconsider his choices.
He was offered to act in Legacies, which is nothing else than kiddy-stuff in Buffy-manner. Nearly all main characters denied to act in Legacies. The terrible directed movie "Anomaly" crushed, V-Wars with him directing ended after one season. He wanted the role of Lucifer, but was still playing TVD. I guess he is doing his commercials for Bourbon, as once as a model. The problems here seem to be more psychologically and alcohol. He can not get over it! Could somebody shake this guy to wake up? - And if he ever would come back as Damon, than human aged and not as a vampire (maybe as wizard, teacher, special forces agent?), divorced (Bonnie would be a good match!). And it would be a totally different show anyway - so why still as Damon?
@@SusiBlumentopf Honestly I dont know why ian didnt want to return as damon especially cause I believe he preferred his role in V wars over damon, a human father, he despised the vampire part he said so. He liked it at first then grew to not like it.
And he is damon freaking salvatore, I refuse to believe a character of that popular caliber cant say make some changes and I will join, cut out of the campiness and nonsense and I'll consider joining.
I cant respond to the alcohol comments that is irrelevant to my main point.
@@malivore7264 some shows you want to watch forever... But you can't. As a never-aging vampire Damon would be still 25 years old, as Ian he is now 43. And both, Ian and Nina, cannot stand each other. Well as a human the writers could have offered him a better script than kiddy-Legacies, but they didn't. He said, he might have written his own story - producers didn't want that.
@@SusiBlumentopf Well, he turned into human in TVD with Nina. So as a human he would be in his 40s. And no he is not supposed to write his own scripts, that's what he needs to understand, it's highly unprofessional to expect something like that. He has responsibilities of his family, by denying to play Damon he basically choose to give up his entire acting career, With Damon he had some chance of saving it. His unprofessionalism and mixing lovelife with career lead him here. Nina is a wonderful person, and you are not supposed to have bad blood with your co-worker, but just because he don't want to be shipped with Nina and want to be "good husband" to Nikki he spoiled his professional image by doing that.

He worked very heard since he was 10 years old, just to hear 2015 that he lost every Cent of his fortune, including all the money from TVD till 2017, and had 10 millions on dept's. V Wars (he himself directed) ended after one season. You can not give 100 percent for a role if you are depressed. During the pandemic not many movies and shows were made anyway. He is trying to do his commercials and to write scripts, and is somehow hiding himself at home. You are right, it is time to get up on his feet again, life is not over. I hope he gets some roles offered and is casted, by God, to have still money or not. And I hope he is that clever to choose wisely.
He played eight years with not many days off, from morning to night, as an actor in TVD and wanted to leave already after three to six seasons. I really loved the show, the story and Ian playing Damon. But he cannot be stuck with his vampire character Damon forever. That would not be fair. He has to play something different. He is such a good guy in real life, and although he played being bad vampire very good, his nice and vulnerable aura was shining through, that is why the audience loved Damon, whatever his character did. His talent is laying more in Family Drama, Comedy, Action, Western. I think, Ian does not see himself that way. He has to have a good director and producer as well, to give him advice. He cannot afford to make failures.
What do you have against authors and script writers? Do you doubt, he can write properly? - I do not like Legacies at all, for me it is really kiddy stuff age 10-14. But in the other hand, too brutal for them. I understand, if serious actors do not want to join. The scripts are really childish! Far beyond TVD! Since when did the business see vampire and witch movies only made for teenagers - since Buffy, Twilight or Teen Wolf? It used to be made for adults. I had to say, TVD season 1-2 did not impress me much, because of that stupid US-Highschool stuff with parties all the time. Story copying Twilight. The Damon scenes, Katherine and the Originals kept me watching. - Besides, Nina and Candice had been too tall for their characters. That annoyed me very often. With Rebakah the same, but her character was Scandinavian, so possible.
So we come to the conclusion: we all want to see Ian Somerhalder in new shows and movies back again!

It is tragic, he was made a model from age 10 on by his mother (instead of finishing good schools), worked very hard, starved a lot, and lost every Cent with 37. No wonder having a break down. It is time to get back on the track again!

I don't understand one thing. If he had problems with his company Brothers Bond Bourbon... and he own it with Paul Wesley, so why only Ian had those problems? Paul didn't help?
@happyyo-tn4ts I read post on his Instagram about how she helped him. Respect to her. I don't understand why lots of people hate her. She looks perfect for him.
This was way before his Brother's Bond company with Paul. It was other investments he made years ago, he's talked about it in other interviews.
