One thing you missed with the fillomino is that because of the following LITS, there can't be regions smaller than 4. It turned out not to be something needed, but does make the first part faster.
Along with the Friday Cryptic Crossword Masterclass, this Saturday non-Sudoku series is a great addition to the channel. Really happy to see you able to diversify your content in recent times and I hope these two series continue.
The cryptic crosswords are just sticking to the roots of the channel (it’s in the name!). Simon may be more of a non-sudoku pencil puzzler also, or maybe he’s just more into pencil puzzles than Mark is.

34:43, I think the rules are a bit incomplete. For the star battle, it says one star in every region. But, the only time "region" is used before then is in the rules for the fillomino. So, I didn't see how the LITS rules did anything. Looking at the video, it seems like you were supposed to look at the regions made by the cells that are not part of the LITS.
Don't understand it. Why does the only green cell in the upper 5 region have to contain a star and the only green in the lower one doesn't need to? (rules say, one star per region - and if you put you stars in both, its not solvable...)
the rules were unnecessarily ambiguous this time imo. I was confused by the wording of the star battle ruleset twice, as the regions weren't that clearly defined. At first i thought it referred to the tetromino regions, which i ruled out after seeing, that i needed ten of them. After peeking into the video and seeing it referring to the LITS regions, i then assumed the large regions of connected tetronimos also needed a star, which led me to placing the tetronimo in the left most 5 region wrongly. After peeking again, it resolved itself in seconds :/
34 Minute solve!! I think I sorta stumbled on the right filomino pattern at the end. I got to a point where I ran out of what felt like logical moves. So I just placed some filominos to see if it would break star battle, it didn't, and it was a solve! lol
I would like to add another happy birthday: myself 🎉 Unfortunately, i dont have any friends or family watching this channel so none of them can write, but fortunately i did have plenty of chocolate cake :) And now at 23:00 im ending off the day by watching this video, cheers
There's gotta be a better way to phrase the star battle rules here. I found them frustratingly unclear. It might help to rephrase the LITS rules to better set up the star battle. I think it could be a little more clear if it explicitly said something about the tetrominoes being shaded and the unshaded cells now being the regions for the star battle.
Am I the only one who didn't get that regions in part 3 are the tetrominos + leftover regions? It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the rules and I thought it was impossible because 1. no unique solution 2. impossible to put 9 stars in 10 regions. Not gonna lie, it kinda pissed me off when I learned that (after having to look up the video) Edit. I see that the full rules are in the video, but realised that only after finding another inconsistency. 46.08 for me.
This talk about a show called Ludwig, and all I could think of was the old cartoon about a mechanical egg. I still understood why people thought it reminded them of Simon! (Sorry)
One thing you missed with the fillomino is that because of the following LITS, there can't be regions smaller than 4. It turned out not to be something needed, but does make the first part faster.
yeah that was a big light bulb moment for me!

Another day another puzzle 😊
Hi there! Thanks for showcasing this puzzle! :)
For the solution check, just put 1’s for stars (it is in the rules of the puzzle :))
Thanks for creating this puzzle!
34:43, I think the rules are a bit incomplete. For the star battle, it says one star in every region. But, the only time "region" is used before then is in the rules for the fillomino. Nice puzzle as usual - it took me too long to parse the star battle rules and then to get the key deduction that broke it open
24:05 woohoo been a while since i beat simons time. fun puzzle.
53:41 for me. That was my first star battle puzzle and also my first LITS puzzle, took me a while to grasp how it works!
What a fun puzzle! I missed the rule about each stage not necessarily being solved before starting the next, but really liked it once I realized.
34:43 ... I surprised myself by figuring out this triple-play of an endeavor
Nice puzzle(s)!
Just moved from Stratford-upon-Avon to Leeds for Uni, such a shame I won't be there to see you! Wish I was there
43 mins for me with guesswork with the final stages of lits, and last 2 stars.
uff, this picture of pooh, british humor, i guess. 🧐
Three puzzles in one grid, what a treat.
Don't understand it. Why does the only green cell in the upper 5 region have to contain a star and the only green in the lower one doesn't need to? (rules say, one star per region - and if you put you stars in both, its not solvable...)
Ignore the filomeno regions! Just look at the green regions.
One star per *green* region. The bottom 5's green isn't a green region of size 1, it's fused with green 13s to make a single bigger green region.
29.42 for me. A lot of fun!
30:15 for me.
love it!!
Why at 42 mins can there not be a star over the 5 and forcing a star above the 13.
@@stevet2676 Last sentence of the rules, stars may not touch each other, even diagonally.
the rules were unnecessarily ambiguous this time imo. I was confused by the wording of the star battle ruleset twice, as the regions weren't that clearly defined. Listened while driving - will watch again to see puzzle. I ❤ Winnie the Pooh!!
ohhh I didn't even make the connection that Queens on LinkedIn is what Star Battle is!
i tried part 1 of this puzzle. it was luckely aprochable.
love these non-sudoku saturdays!
18:00 minute mark, you know there is no size 1 area. 81−(14+13+13+12+6+5+5
+5+4+4)=0
Every region had to be bigger than 3 because you have to be able to put a tetromino in it.
Don't understand why in the end in 14 region there are L shape but not I shape.
Because then there would be 8 regions for the star battle instead of 9
The solution chacker works if u put 1s in the cells with stars.
You should've read the rules, Simon :)
Simon probably set that up after completing his solve…
Well actually I put it in, but Simon missed it :)
I would like to add another happy birthday: myself 🎉
Unfortunately, i dont have any friends or family watching this channel so none of them can write, but fortunately i did have plenty of chocolate cake :)
