BEHRINGER DEEPMIND 12 EFFECTS OVERVIEW & DEMO ~ Reverbs, Delays, Distortion, EQ, etc.

  • Behringer Deepmind 12 effects demo. In this video I cycle through all the effects and tweak them as I go. This includes reverbs, delays, the compressor, phasers, choruses, a flanger, rotary simulator, noise gate, etc. I only use one effect at a time because the focus here is to cover the individual effects rather than the routing. I'm using the Deepmind 12 iPad app to control the synth here but you can access all these controls from the synth directly as well. The Deepmind 12 is an analog polyphonic synthesizer.

    You have a very musical approach which is rare in the synth world. It's nice hearing sympathetic chords instead of bloops and farts and blokes talking about fucking Lfo's and filters. People need to remember that synths are for making music .
    So Thankyou :)

    You truly make the Deepmind sing. I've watched your videos on the DM and loved them, but your in-depth explanations and demonstrations here clinched the deal. I am now saving up for a DM, and subscribed to your channel. Your enthusiasm is so infectious, and your musicality makes it a joy to listen to - as another commenter mentioned, you make the sounds we, as musicians get inspired by instead of waxing about the relative merits of the choice of transistors. Thank you for your work, is what I'm trying to get at.

      I kind of wished they released it as a separate unit with say 8 encoders or more and a screen so you could edit the controls without an ipad or the tedious one knob interface. They seem way too complex for the interface you get. If they'd have provided 3 or 4 encoders and 3 or 4 parameters that would have been much more usable. I'd love a multi-effects unit like this where you could tweak 1 knob per parameter without much menu diving

    I'm quite a beginner, but I've been following your videos for quite some time now, but I always come back to them at the right time, just when I'm able to comprehend and assimilate your synthesis lessons and fully appreciate this kind of demos. I can say I might have a similar approach to music, sound design and learning "philosophy" as you do, thus making you a great teacher for me, the viewer. Fun fact: I've been saving for the deepmind12 for some time, and this video of yours just pops out, kinda of validating my decision of buying it :P Thank you, once again.

    There are a lot of people talking about why didn't they make the effects available through an input to the DM12. I believe that if the effects manufactures would have allowed that... Why would you buy their expensive effect racks?

    • @Xul
      @Xul 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Behringer's parent "Music Tribe" is the mother company of those FX device brands ... Its basically all one company ... But yeah ... the effects section alone is worth more than the DM6 costs ... You don't have to like the shady tactics and behaviour towards customers and reviewers by Behringer ... but fuck do they produce extremly good products for low prices.

    The basic looking reverbs have another page of settings so they have 12 sliders in all.
    If you look on the iPad next to the FX slots, the 2nd window down shows 2 white squares when there are 2 pages. The FX section on the DM12 is absolutely incredible & having the Editor makes it 10 times easier to edit everything. I got an iPad Air 4, a Deepmind 12 & a 12D for about £1300 total.
    A 24-Voice Mega-synth with 8 FX engines & a 10" touchscreen is great fun.
    The FX modules are made by TC Electronics/Klark Technic and are seriously Top Notch.
    I only need to add the odd funky pedal like a Strymon Big-Sky or a Dr Scientist Bitquest & it gets Bananas really quickly.

    Many have wondered why there is no audio input so that folks can use the Deepmind as a high quality FX processor too ( would be especially handy on the smaller desktop version like I have ) but I think that this ability was omitted on purpose by Behringer. Although they knew that very good quality FX would help to really make the synth stand out in many aspects, they also knew that for the price point of the Synth it was prob too much to also give people more access to those FX in other ways and that it would be giving away too much. After all they could easily make a decent FX box with all these FX loaded and sell that on it`s own and charge good money for that too. I bet though that it wouldn`t be too hard for someone to mod it by intercepting the audio path after the OSCs or before the FX circuit

    • @tommymandel3326
      @tommymandel3326 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may have to do with quality - they would want very hi quality A/D conversion, for one thing. And it's beyond my technical knowledge, but would the audio input, once digitized and 'in the synth' have to then be converted to a voltage, since this is an ANALOG synth with analog filter, etc? That might be a big deal. And we do love the price point. Probably B. will come out with a $1500 euro box that does have audio input. And it'll be worth every penny.

    DeepMIND...blowing. Effects alone are worth so much, add to that 12 voices plus modulation matrix.... and you get one of this decades truly fantastic synths that everyone can afford. The lack of oscillators makes me think adding two Yamaha Reface CS's to this for left, right, and center(DM12) stereo field would make this a $1500.00 rig for stereo and 4 oscillators.

    You should really look more closely to the Chorus-D. It is also available in the x32 and it is a simple to use magical 80s chorus, which I use on my CZ instead of the internal one. (Due to the noise it adds)

      I was reading on the Behringer website about the reverb or some such effect where it said it was ideal for snare drums and vocals, .this is typical of Behringer when the unit has no microphone input and is probably incapable of a snare drum sound.
      This synth is being promoted with the included effects very heavily but the reverbs I have heard on this video sound awful, like the synth sound is detached from the reverb effect. I have got one arriving tomorrow , I will probably send it back.

    I'm loving that tape delay emulation! Question: The key parameters for playing around with a tape delay is feedback and delay time. Is it posible to assign these two patameters to knobs/wheel/expressionpedal for serious live noise making with full sound control? :) It's hard to find this great a delay in most synths. Nord Stage isn't even close for example...

    • @onceuponasynth

      Yes you can use those params as mod destinations in the mod matrix, so all the standard mod sources are available for it (mod wheel, sequencer, aftertouch, etc).

      I just mean the videos are showing two bits of gear together, and the notion that there is a question about them matching seems a bit odd. Please, i know this video is 2 years old, but can you tell me what is that constant noise trough this entire video starting from 1:30?? like white noise. Is that from synth?

    Kind of strange that the different between the deepmind 12 and 6 is the voices and the lack of app support on the 6. Wonder why it only works for the 12, to sell more?

      Disregard my stupid comment due to pretty misleading information on the app store page.

      Does the app work, on the 6? I looked at the app store page, but there was only kind of a glancing reference to it.

    Contrary to what most people may think, this is exactly what I don't like on the Deepmind. Very few options to shape the basic sound itself, and then a ton of digital effects taking away the analogue sound and lot of them don't sound much different from each other. I would've either loved more sound shaping capabilities (it especially lacks in the avaiable waveforms and filters) because effects I have loads of in my DAW.

    • @TallicaMan1986
      @TallicaMan1986 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah but the sound shaping synth is all that there was in the market and still kind of is. Synths that come with a ridiculous amount of fx is great, it's different. The fx are more powerful than vst counterparts. The versatility in a synth should be treasured and not expected to be a part of an over saturated market of the Normal, expected synth.
      This synth is a pad monster, it can make sooo many types of evolving pads up the wazoo.

      I agree entirely , I do not have one but the sounds bathed in reverb are dreadful, there is no hardware way to disable the effx. I suspect the only way is to vary the settings for levels and effects return settings in the modulation matrix.
      Is there a separate manual for the module I have one on order but the pdf is for the keyboard version on the Behringer website. J Horrobin UK

      JOHN HORROBIN - "there is no hardware way to disable the effx."
      Huh? You can just choose "none" in the effects section, and there won't be any effects. You can have from 0 to 4 simultaneous effects & can also route the effects like 20 different ways.
