Modern-day football is like a sanitized corporate event. Love the old 80s flashbacks... couldn't beat the tribal atmosphere or huge away followings.

Correct I'm afraid a lot of your working class support what create the true tribal atmosphere have sadly been priced out

It's a totally different game now & the younger generations know no difference, a bit like us (me 68) watching the 1920s-1950s football but we felt connected to it unlike the Millennials to us 60s-90s.

Was at the game standing on the railway side of Old Trafford. It was on a Sunday and United played well. Liverpool were unbeaten at the tine and only lost two for the season and finished champions. United finished nine points behind in second place.

Despite the fierce rivalry between the clubs, both Liverpool and United had terrific kits that season.

Was just going to type the exact same thing. Adidas always make the best kits and those retro ones still look great today.

Alan Hansen had a cracking first half in this game and what a game it became in the second half - end to end. Ian St, John was a great commentator here, the other guy was rambling shit half the game but Ian picked up everything he missed and some.

Seems game back then are played in slow tempo. These days games are played with blistering speed. Back then players are not protected enough. These days players are over protected. The game has evolve but I'm not sure if it's for good. One can't touch a player with a ball at all these days they all fall like a fly with the slightest touch. They try to get their opponents sent off by faking injuries, tricking the ref to get penalty etc there is no sportsmanship in the game. All these elements are gradually being taken from the game.Win at all cost there is no two way about it. Football has really become a global game but the sportsmanship in the game is slowly dying. What will happen to this game will it continue to grow? Can it keep the new coming generation interested in football or will it.....??????

I actually remember watching this game on TV in my home in london on the big match live on LWT back in 1987... I was 9 years old, and i was pissed..Moran blatantly elbowed the ball into the path of Whiteside for him to score...it seems that man u were getting those kind of decisions even then...

As I read this I seen McMahon jump elbow first right into Bryan Robson and only got booked funny that. At 18:43

@@vinnysamways63 lol...hmmmm?...did you not read my comment properly?...or have'nt you been to specsavers yet?...when l said i was pissed?...l was pissed off in other words...or do you not know what that means either?

Language can change over time, but the historic UK meaning of "pissed" (as opposed to "pissed off") is drunk, whereas in the US it means annoyed. I assume the original comment meant annoyed but has been misinterpreted as meaning drunk.
