Don’t forget Mother, that’s dealing with real issues because it’s one of the few times we see the truth unfiltered through Isaac’s eyes. Even if the battle itself is fake, the meaning behind it was true.
of course, the christian broadcasts... i am genuinely scared of those toxic preachers. i feel like if i say no they'll come out of the tv and try to kill me.
I like how the “Living in the Light” psalm is used almost as a chorus. The fact that they are actually delivered slightly different lends to the idea that Mom watched so much of this stuff that she was watching different preachers delivering the same psalms.
I think the "no temptation has taken you..." part serves a similar purpose; the initial version repeats twice, and then a different translation (I think King James?) is used at the end ("there hath no temptation taken you...")
Seriously, how the hell do you come up with "Dogmatic Christian TV personified as a seraph made of TV static that screams recordings of preachers at you as you fight it" as a boss idea. I hope the people making these games get paid well.
This entire game is about severe trauma of a small child caused by his mother's blind, literal, unquestioning, and incredibly toxic interpretation of the Bible and Christian teachings without ever questioning some of its more fucked up lessons This boss is a metaphoric powerhouse that is intentionally designed to portray these things as terrifying, which they are, ESPECIALLY in this context
The televangelists screaming overlayed with the guitars create this profoundly chilling effect. It kind of feels like you're going up against the wrath of a vengeful god.
Ridiculon does the sfx/sound design too, so it makes a lot of sense that they considered them to go well with the music. Everyone involved made such a fantastic job with this boss, it's unreal
Fun fact:dogmas sprite will actually start to become fuzzy like it encountered a signal error if you use an item like lodestone and magnetize dogma or it’s tv
The fucking scariest thing about this, isn't the boss, or the fact that Isaac's mom was listening to an insane preacher the whole time... It's the fact that this was done so well, That I honestly thought they just took clips from Kenneth Copeland and threw them into the song because it sounded that accurate to him.
@@ApexGale "Are you sure that's how you want the story to end, Isaac? I mean it's your story. Kinda threw me under the bus at the end there. Here. Try again, buddy."
Sadly, fear mongering has become a desperate attempt for some Christians to try and grab followers. I demonstrate by example, shouldn't have to make someone live in fear to believe in an afterlife.
Literally everything about this boss is fucking sick. The music, animations, attacks, sound effects, and those tv static brimstone attacks are just so cool to me.
@@babaskarma1981 It makes a distinct sound when it fires Brimstone and it only shoots it in the 4 cardinal directions. Stay in between two of them and switch between them but not too close or the laser will hit you. Easy to do once you get the hang of it.
This theme is absurdly intense for what started as a little flash game about a crying baby fighting living poop and his mom lmfao. God I love this game.
2:37 - 3:00 The energetic list of the sins, the way he delivers the line after, blasphemy against the holy spirit, and the leitmotif of the main theme just harshly fuzzing around right after. Mmmm that is the kinda shit I like to hear in my boss music.
I think it's implied in a floor loading screen that the voice was the Lost. Why the Lost wants Isaac dead, I don't know, but the reason she believed it was God was because of religious dogma.
@@salvadorelastname9095 it's probably just Isaac self-berating himself. He thinks he deserves to die and suffer, so he imagines himself saying all those horrible things to his mother about himself. With repentance a lot of old stuff got basically retconned.
Dogma is my favorite boss. Ever. The delivery, graphic and sound design, the music, the concept all of these things are executed perfectly. I knew whatever I was gonna encounter next was gonna be crazy when I saw the blue tint of the tv from the door on the left corridor but holy hell this was way better than anything I could have hoped. I mean take a look at the transition cutscene when you sleep in moms bed with static stuff. I LOVE how the background changes to this amazin ruined dark house, I love the chanting in phase 2 and when you defeat it that goddamn tv turn off effect jus made me blast serotonin up my ass. The team put so much love and effort and creativity in this boss and I feel as every other dev should care about their game as much as TBOI team has. Cheers Ed :D
It's a really really well-designed bossed, and thematically I think it should have been expanded upon to be the real final boss. I get what Ed was going for with The Beast, but say a third and maybe fourth stage to dogma would have been the cream of the crop. It fits so well with the theme, the music is fucking amazing, its sound effects almost go along with the music, and its visual design is awesome. Truly cheers to Ed.
I honestly still don't entirely understand why the beast even exists in the first place. It just feels weird for Dogma to become a part of Isaac who then turns into an angel. Otherwise, I like the ending.
Damn, TBOI had some great moments but this shit literally gives me chills. I wonder why this is not the final boss, it would make perfect sense. This is where it all started and where it should end
Well it’s cannon Isaac is dead. I like to think of his ascent upwards and fight to dogma (then the beast) is just him coming to terms with the trauma in his life before he goes. So lore wise it makes a lot of sense to end at dogma, but Isaac only finds rest after he defeats the beast. He thinks he’s inherently evil, and hates that. He needs to kill the beast inside of him before he truly finds peace and can let go and finally die. Granted Edmond will never spill the exact story and everything is up to speculation.
The Beast is also Isaac facing off against his mom for the final time, if you look closely at the bottom of the sprite you can see it’s wearing her dress!
@@planetsliveinsidethemoon1600 yeah I noticed that before but I've never seen anyone say anything about it so I've always just thought maybe I was just looking to much into it.
unfortunatly you dont hear so much dogma's voice, among all of the stuff going on, its sad becouse it is pretty good, you only really hear it when he's doing an attack
the bible quotes behind the music while you’re trying to survive this bullet hell and intense boss is absolutely amazing, this game never fails to give such a strong atmosphere
The first time I faced Dogma I had a lot of trouble Not only because he is hard for an average player like me, but also because I was too busy headbanging to this music
Dogma is amazing even without it's main concept Take out the main message and you still have a slimy anomaly made of the static contained in the TV, crawling away from the screen, shouting all your dogmas, your sole beliefs you cannot prove but you always follow in your life in the shape of the voices and/or words that showed you them for the first time.
I was talking about Dogma. The whole game without it's symbolic meaning would be "Kid goes into shitcave, discovers the power of self harm and literally fucking dies" It would stop being sad and would become hilarious like Meat boy
I kind of like the idea that delirium is the boss Isaac gets if he doesn't open the chest and suffocates. While Dogma is the boss he gets if he actually pushes the lid open and ascends rather than delve deeper into his mind to escape the issues.
what's so unique about this theme is that it lacks the feeling of dread or regret in the other themes. This is a straight up brawl. And for good reason: The Home ending is Isaac realizing what the problem behind his suffering was. The Christian Broadcasts that made his mother turn to dogmatic abuse stemmed from religion as a coping mechanism. The problem wasn't Isaac's mother and not really his dad either. It was dogma. It was Dogma. And now, Isaac is going to purge that Dogma straight at the source.
It was his father. All the gambling and alcoholism had nothing to do with religion, he did all of that to himself. Magdalene, seeing her family falling apart, turned to religion as a coping mechanism. He's definitely the one at fault.
@@orions2908yeah ngl the father was probably the biggest shit here. He wasnt groomed by a tv or hypnotised or any of that shit. He willingly stole money from his wife, gambled it, and then ditched his family.
As someone who grew up in a Christian household, went to Christian school K-12 this hits home. My parents got divorced because my dad has a drinking problem and stopped being Christian. My mom was and still is hardcore Christian. School was awful and all these types of things I’ve heard irl. It’s like a cult to me. Goddamn Ed, your hitting close to home bud. Keep it up, your giving me ideas.
Delta 9-87 more/less OK. I’ve been living with my dad for a while after rebuilding our relationship. Currently finishing high school (never finished cause of the Bs) in hopes to find a decent job and start my career. Still talk to mom as she’s died down with religion a lot, although it’s still very noticeable; I still love her regardless tho, she’s my mom. Isaac definitely had it way worse than me, I’ve been able to recover quite a bit and have some ideas for things; I have a game I want to make and go ham on, a mix of HP lovecraft and Christianity, showing how I feel about it all (don’t wanna spoil my own shit now LoL). That’s the goals Rn, get better job by finishing high school so I can fund and start working on my passion project. Both Isaac and Hyper light drifter are huge inspirations, HLD is also very Similar for me as I also struggle with pretty bad asthma and relate to the protagonist a lot.
Dogma is the true enemy and he wasn't really defeated. He got inside Isaac in the form of yet another attribute of his (an ITEM) pushing him to defeat an enemy that doesn't exist (The concept of the beast and the horsemen that before Dogma he saw just as things used agains't him)
I’m more than certain that Dogma is meant to be the False Prophet. I mean, we have The Beast, and obviously Satan and the Four Horsemen. All meant to instill fear, pain, and the breaking of spirits to anyone that would dare to refuse giving their entire being to their “lord”.

Shoutout to Dogma for being the coolest fucking character concept ever in media in ways of portrayal and concept Isaac's Mother looked onto these tele-evangelical channels more highly than she did her own son. It would make sense why it's a fetus of static, as I'm sure Isaac just thinks Mother has more love in these preachy antics than him Also the theme fucking goes off despite not being anything crazy. It doesn't need crazy to tell the story of why this thing is "bad" It's just jumbled ramblings of a crazy preacher. Chopped speeches that are almost in a sense brainwashing with how they are explained I'm fully convinced Isaac's Mother didn't hear a legitimate Angel, but was so numbed to these channels that she took their statements to HEART. Putting pieces together in her head to make the decisions that were supposedly an Angel's requests to make God happy. Isaac sees it as a enemy because it turned his Mothers mind into the static it is smothered in. With a sickening halo on top
Dogma also happens to be the strongest. The Beast is the concept of cleansing, while Dogma is the one that instaurates this enemy in Isaac's mind, even going as beyond as defeating Isaac without the need of a fight. Isaac absorved the Dogma, he embraced it as a perk and not something to defeat... Grave mistake.
this is basically those Televangalists combining together into a small static fetus thing, coming together to smite you with their craziness. yeah, no wonder Mom went crazy, and the Dad left. but we have to feel bad for them
As a fan of The Binding of Isaac who is also a Christian. This has to be my favorite boss fight. The reason being is that Dogma represents the lunatics who use the bible to put themselves in a high position of power by using fear to trick people who don’t know better. These lines being from the bible represents that because most of these are taken out of context thus creating a whole new meaning. People like this however are a minority and many Christians including myself have tried to help people understand this is not what Christianity is supposed to be. Were a religion built on love and peace not fear. Isaac’s mother is an accurate depiction of what happens when you devote yourself to this Dogma. My goodness, This game is an absolute masterpiece. Edit: This is why I never share my religion on the internet. Please wear a hazmat suit when entering the reply section for this comment. It’s for your safety. And if your going there to reply to my comment trying to deconstruct my religion, please actually criticize my religion and not the church. There two completely different things and please read my comment. I literally said evangelists are almost all terrible people thus I’m most likely not an evangelist. Actually please do criticize my religion. I love having my views challenged and my philosophies changed which will make me a better person.
Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ Built on love and peace, my ass. If you sin and sin and never repent, you will go to hell. No amount of love or peace for your fellow man will change his fate. All are subject to judgement by God and god alone.
You defeat the indoctrination that held you inside the box. Instead of rejecting it completely, you take it as a source of inspiration as the box around you shatters and you discover the power you hold over how things will truly be. And then your story finally ends... and many others begin.
In a more cynical take: You fight the indoctrination, it seems like you're finally free. But dogma wins in the end, and drafts you into the same delusional battle against sin that your mother was fighting.
@@cardboardhed1967 except it probably, ironically, made Isaac fit for heaven. From what the ending suggests he did make his way to peace in the afterlife.
@@cardboardhed1967 Isaac is an innocent child, given how harmless and artistic his demeanor seems to be. It would be more accurate to say that he understands what true “evil” looks like in the context of both religion and human behavior, by the end of this fight. however it could also be a metaphor for if Isaac should survive the experience, he’d potentially continue the cycle of abuse in his own way. Perhaps by becoming a stalwart atheist and shunning all forms of belief or by frantically trying to protect his own kin from what could be construed as “Satanic” or evil, the same as his mom but perhaps less ill-inclined.
My favorite boss, truly amazing, you just feel so hyped up as you're fighting him with the preachers screaming and the music all together just so good, i wish it was a final boss by itself

i think this boss is proof that execution matters more than how original the idea is if you asked me in 2014 what i thought the final-for-real-seriously-actually-final-this-time boss of isaac would be, i would probably guess some manifestation of the christian broadcasts that isaac's mother watched, i might have even been able to predict some sort of ascent sequence into something like the home bit but holy shit i had CHILLS the whole way up. what a fucking amazing finale to this decade-long experience edmund roped us all into
Something small I noticed is that occasionally, the preachers change which version of the Bible they're quoting. 0:27 New Living version of 1 John 1:7 "But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin." 1:51 King James Bible version of 1 John 1:7 "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
I am so grateful for this game. I can't tell you the existential crises i was subjected to with in church and sunday school as a child. Not saying religion is bad, but when i was Christian i was living in fear.
IDEA: Given how the music mentions the 7 deadly sins in the lyrics, how about if you hold book of sins in the Beast fight, instead of the Horsemen you would fight Ultra versions of the remaining sins? (Not counting Greed and Pride)
i was listening this with earbuds and the preaching felt like it was moving from left to right. i wonder if this is how isaac felt, constantly surrounded by insane preachings of God.

Truly cheers to Ed.
dogma should be the final boss instead of the beast
Dogma definitely should've been the final boss, it just fits so well and the build up is intense.
I honestly still don't entirely understand why the beast even exists in the first place. It just feels weird for Dogma to become a part of Isaac who then turns into an angel. Otherwise, I like the ending.
I didn't like the Beast being the final boss since its a far,far slower grindier fight than the high octane Dogma fight.

The final boss is the beast created by Dogma's preaching.

Take out the main message and you still have a slimy anomaly made of the static contained in the TV, crawling away from the screen, shouting all your dogmas, your sole beliefs you cannot prove but you always follow in your life in the shape of the voices and/or words that showed you them for the first time.

what's so unique about this theme is that it lacks the feeling of dread or regret in the other themes.

Isaac's Mother looked onto these tele-evangelical channels more highly than she did her own son. It would make sense why it's a fetus of static, as I'm sure Isaac just thinks Mother has more love in these preachy antics than him
Also the theme fucking goes off despite not being anything crazy. It doesn't need crazy to tell the story of why this thing is "bad"
It's just jumbled ramblings of a crazy preacher. Chopped speeches that are almost in a sense brainwashing with how they are explained
I'm fully convinced Isaac's Mother didn't hear a legitimate Angel, but was so numbed to these channels that she took their statements to HEART. Putting pieces together in her head to make the decisions that were supposedly an Angel's requests to make God happy.
Isaac sees it as a enemy because it turned his Mothers mind into the static it is smothered in. With a sickening halo on top
I can't tell if i like dogma or the beast better. They are both awesome fights.
Dogma for me is way better from an appearance point of view and battle, but The Beast is also quite original
If we're comparing the fight the beast is better, the songs dogma's better in my opinion.
Dogma got a really cool intro scene tho.
And he also has a deep connection to what happened with isac's mother.

This game isn't against Christianity like many people think, it's against this concept, Dogma, as a whole
Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I have come to turn
‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36A man’s enemies will be the members
of his own household.’
Built on love and peace, my ass. If you sin and sin and never repent, you will go to hell. No amount of love or peace for your fellow man will change his fate. All are subject to judgement by God and god alone.
Oi guys I think we caught one of these televangelists.

But dogma wins in the end, and drafts you into the same delusional battle against sin that your mother was fighting.

but holy shit i had CHILLS the whole way up. what a fucking amazing finale to this decade-long experience edmund roped us all into
This is a remix of the normal boss theme. AAAAAAAAAAAA
Oh shit I never even realized that, that's crazy.
it's also a remix of the home theme, which sounds like a remix of the menu theme... many remixes in this land.
Leitmotif is a hell of a thing
BEST CHRISTIAN SONG TO SING ALONG WITH YOUR FAMILY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
ah yes my three favorite sounds:
• cool ass basslines
• television static
• screams of biblical salvation
"You need to watch more Christian Television!"
Christian Television:
Jokes aside, this was the best boss fight music.
Christian tv in a nutshell:THE ANGER OF GOD IS COMING,PRIDE,GREEEED,WRATH,LUST,SLOTH,GLUTTONY,ENVY,FITS OF RAGE, BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOOOLY SPIRIT
I think I'll stick to Veggietales, thanks
This song is straight up 3 minutes and 44 seconds of nonstop goosebumps
Something small I noticed is that occasionally, the preachers change which version of the Bible they're quoting.
0:27 New Living version of 1 John 1:7
"But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin."
1:51 King James Bible version of 1 John 1:7
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
I am so grateful for this game. I can't tell you the existential crises i was subjected to with in church and sunday school as a child. Not saying religion is bad, but when i was Christian i was living in fear.
You know the song is sick when it uses static as a beat
2:37 "PRIDE, GREED, WRATH, ENVY, LUST, GLUTTONY AND SLOTH-"
The quote "BLASPHEMY AGAINSTS THE HOLY SPIRIT!!" is absolute best
2:52 you came for this, i think.
no need to like.
The best boss music in the game. Hands down.
I love listening to static, beeping, and aggressive bible quotes at 1 am
IDEA:
Given how the music mentions the 7 deadly sins in the lyrics, how about if you hold book of sins in the Beast fight, instead of the Horsemen you would fight Ultra versions of the remaining sins? (Not counting Greed and Pride)
*modders sweating in the background*
War acts like Wrath and Pestilence acts like Sloth. Beast's brimstone attack is the same as Gluttony's, just big.
That’s cuz gluttony is a buffed vis, it’s attack is a brimstone laser, most rooms have an enemy with it.
That's pretty neat, but a lot of effort for something that a lot of players might not see
i was listening this with earbuds and the preaching felt like it was moving from left to right.
i wonder if this is how isaac felt, constantly surrounded by insane preachings of God.
As a Christian I approve of this. 👍
I'm a Christian too, and I love this game. (I actually haven't played the DLCs yet, waiting for a Steam Sale.)
1:35 "I WARN YOU👹 as I have before 😁👍"
Mother & The Beast are great but Dogma is pretty easily my favorite boss now
Idk much about this game but if Dogma of fundamentalist televangelist is the true evil in the game, that’s actually genius.
I realise now that this is a remix of Crusade (Rebirth's basic boss OST), which the Challenge Room theme (Ambush) also did. Listen to the guitar riff at the start, and listen to the start of crusade. It's the same!
Everybody gangster until VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY, SAYS THE LORD
despite the fact that Ridiculon did a replay of the soundtrack from Rebirth it's pretty epic.
PRIDE, GREED, WRATH, ENVY, LUST, GLUTTONY, AND SLOTH!
Probably one of the only songs that has Bible quotes as Lyrics.
definitely not
115 has some in it it’s a good song too
still gives me fucking chills down my spine every time i hear it
i put this on full volume with earphones and started ascending to heaven, great song!
This song slaps so good! Repent all of ya!
Please pin this or any version to the top
Preacher 1:
But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light,
That we have fellowship with each other,
And the blood of Jesus, His son, cleanses us from all sin,
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and not living in the truth.
But if we confess our sins to him, He is faithful,
And just to forgive for us our sins, and to cleanse us, from all wickedness.
Preacher 2?:
And so I tell you, every kind of sin and standing to be forgiven;
But blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven!
Preacher 1:
Impurity, lust, and evil desires.
Don’t be greedy!
For a greedy person is a idolater, worsening the things of this world,
Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming!
Preacher 3?:
No temptation has overtaken you, except what is common to mankind,
And God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear!
Preacher 1:
Fist of rage! Selfish in ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy;
Drunkenness, orgies, and the like!
I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this;
Will not inherit the kingdom of God!
Preacher 1:
But if we were in the light,
As He is in the light,
We have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, His son, purifies us all from sin!
Preacher 3?:
All the wages of Sin is death!
But the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ, our lord!
Preacher 1:
But if we are living in the light,
As God is in the light,
That we have fellowship with each other,
And the blood of Jesus, His son, cleanses us from all sin,
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves, and are not living in the truth.
But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful,
And just to forgive for us our sins, and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
Preacher 3?
Pride! Greed! Wrath! Envy! Lust! Gluttony, and Sloth!
Preacher 1:
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.
Have nothing to do with sexual immorality--
Preacher 3?
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit!
Preacher ?:
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
And all our righteous acts are like filthy rags!
We all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind, our sins sweep us away!
Preacher 3?:
No temptation has overtaken you except one that is common to mankind!
And God is faithful. He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear!
Preacher ?:
"Vengeance is mine; I will repay!" says the Lord!
Preacher ?:
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man.
But God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above all!
