      +Eduardo Blancarte It's not pure greed. It's supply and demand. If you want mega bucks, you have to exploit your fellow man based on wants and needs. That's why a lot of people choose to earn mediocre amounts of money, because they don't have the killer instinct. This guy is prepared for people to pay him money and live but also for people to not pay him and not live. That's economics which is based on the oldest principal of them all; survival of the fittest.

In Europe, they are morally detached, as they just let their government handle everything

    • @RenegadeVile
      @RenegadeVile 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Insane 3842 While he's wrong and should say that "to be rich easy in America, one has to forget about morals and ethics (which can be applied to EVERY country in the world)", you're also wrong in giving that stpid blanket statement about every single European on the continent. Besides, one of the main reasons we give to charity through the government is to have some form of control on where the money goes. This backfires sometimes, but I don't trust most people to give to charities that aren't scams or end up in the pockets of African dictators.

    Healthcare in UK is so good compared to the USA

    • @thejollysloth5743
      @thejollysloth5743 8 ปีที่แล้ว +92

      +Josh Shearer As someone who lives in the UK, healthcare is getting much worse over here. The thing is it will ALWAYS be better than the USA, because it's FREE for everyone.
      The last few governments have REALLY made a mess of the NHS, but if there was a government in power that actually cared about it, it would be amazing.
      We used to have the best healthcare system on the planet, and it was free for everyone, even visitors to the country. It is a shame it's going down the toilet because scumbag governments wont give it enough funding.

      Yes, and US citizens pay taxes too. What I'm saying is that the US governments could and should use those taxes to benefit the population more effectively.
      When there are working members of the public unable to afford even basic healthcare then the system is utterly failing, and the population should ask for a more effective system of government for themselves.

      +SlothDance Party - In Scotland our NHS is a completely separate thing from the English NHS and it's run better. We're hitting our targets of 94% of people treated in A&E within 4 hours. We're hitting targets on waiting times.
      I was diagnosed and treated for cancer within the space of 3 months - 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy, 5 sessions of chemo, 3 general anaesthetic procedures, an overnight stay in hospital and multiple MRI & CT scans. Also all of the pain/anti-sickness pills I needed - all at no upfront cost to me.
      Here we also have enough money to give everyone their prescriptions free (because our government chooses to spend their share of tax money on it, not because we get more money that we should - England could afford it too if the Tories wanted to do it).
      The English NHS is not in a mess because there's not enough funding, it's because the Tories want to get rid of it and replace it with Private healthcare (which of course is owned by them and their friends). Just look at what they're doing to the Junior doctors.

      The main difference is that the hostpitals are not corporations with the primary purpose of generating profit over all else. I don't know about the UK, but in Canada , the canadian government spent less money PER PERSON on healthcare than the american government did. In 2014, the canadian government spent $3175 per person, and private costs per person were $673 on top of that. In 2014, the american government spent $4448 per person, and private costs per person were $3542 on top of that. Both of those were in USD

      +Jak2bossbf3 A quick Google will tell you that New York City has the highest amount of Jewish people in the US. Just over 2 million people (around 11%) are Jewish in NYC. For contrast, Tel Aviv has 3.2 million Jewish people, which is around 42% of Israel's entire population. Just a guess, but maybe those figures factor into the decision to live there? Like you said, there are much cheaper places to live in the US, so maybe cost of living isn't as big a factor as there being a large Jewish community in NYC? Also, with 750,000 subscribers on one channel and 250,000 on another, living expenses shouldn't be an issue at all if videos are monetised.

      +TPQ1980 One million views is about a thousand dollars, usually a bit less. Subscribers help, but views are where the money comes from. And he gets NO money from people with Adblock, so that subscription with Adblock is nearly worthless to him.
      He says he's pulling in 50k, which is pretty darn good for a youtuber, but keep in mind, his paychecks are not a steady amount. He's gotta hope people keep watching him and plan his life around the gamble that he can remain relevant.

    On health insurance, I live in Canada, make about the same amount as Ethan, and about $400-$600 of the taxes I pay every month go towards my healthcare. Sounds like we pay pretty close to the same for healthcare. But here's the kicker - my federal income taxes are actually slightly lower than Ethan's are, and my Provincial income taxes are only slightly higher. So, overall, Ethan is paying roughly the same amount of tax as I am, but then has to pay $750 for health insurance ON TOP OF THAT. It's actually insane.
    Then take a look at Sweden... I checked a while back to see if my taxes really would be higher in Sweden, since everyone seems to agree that the Swedes are being taxes through the nose. BUT it turns out that if everything about my life was equal, and the only difference was that if I lived in Sweden, I would be paying about the same income tax, and would be paying about $100 more per month in sales taxes (rough estimate). $100/month sounds huge, but I pay a minimum of $600/month to student debt. If I lived in Sweden, University would have been free, so I'd have $500/month more in my pocket. With that kind of money, I could have put a down payment on a house by now.
    "Higher" taxes are worth it for better universal services, IMO.

Higher taxes means OUR taxes fund things like the hospitals and colleges INSTEAD of relying the government. And "herbal" solutions for cancer have literally never worked, but i guess it is a good way to weed out the stupid people. If taxes funded the hospitals, people would be able to AFFORD treatment for cancer instead of having to be forced to try herbs and religious "healing" as a desperate attempt to save themselves.

Not always in straight out taxes, but in limitations to obey, like the industry must not pollute the water and air so we can have them drinkable and breathable. And those limitations come with a cost. Noone has their human rights for free neither, as someone must fight for them, and they either do it themselves, or someone _cough USA cough_ does it for them (usually in exchange for certain black liquids to export for dirt-cheap). So if anyone anywhere tells you about "free X" you can spit in their lying face.

    So I looked into it, and it turns out this pharmaceutical guy isn't bad at all. He only charges the price hike to insurance companies and gives it for free to those without insurance. And he's running a loss too. The money he's making goes into research for a improved drug as the one he's pricehiking hasn't been changed since 1930. You get can get sicker from the drug, but no one cared to improve it as it's not profitable enough. This guy is alone in the struggle. Thanks for bashing him, not.

      Dude you're high on something. The company that previously owned the patent for that medicine sold it for $13 dollars a pill and still made decent profits. Especially since they cost less than a dollar to make. And "research" is often what they claim the extra money goes to, but a majority of pharmaceutical companies spend their money on marketing and administration, with only 15%-20% of their budget going towards research. Not only that, but the research he claimed it was going towards was a "better" medication for the same ailment, despite the fact that the one he just hiked up works perfectly fine. Now, hes created a dilemma for those needing this medication, either having to spend thousands of dollars on another medication, or kicking the bucket.

    • @Chiszle
      @Chiszle 8 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      He didn't buy a patent; Daraprim is what he bought, a medicine brand. Patents for medicine's from the early last century don't last this long. The patent is in public domain. He bought a medicine that has passed testing and FDA approval. If you start from scratch on a medicine you need to go through tonnes of test and costs first. Now the guy is redeveloping the drug into something new so he can take the old one of the market and replace it with a new one. No one has missed out on this medicine, not one. You cna even tweet to Martin if you want it for free when your insurer won't cover it. Aids medicine that are being redeveloped are priced near the thousands of dollars. Insurance companies spend tonnes more on marketing useless tablets that all do the same. This guy goesa against the grain and spends proportionately more on research than the other firms. And he's doing it. No one else was out there making the drug better. Don't ask him to cut the price down unless you're aware fo the damage this drug does versus his decision to give patients better options. The old medicine is only a lesser evil to what it cures. These price hikes happen all across markets and industries. From mobile cell phone plans to interests on your savings being cut. And the established industry top will try to squat people like this Martin fellow, which is the only reason he's being covered by media. Some higher-up pushed this into the spotlight and Martin isn't buckling.

The taxes we pay for healthcare are relative to income so no one really notices it coming out of their pay packet. You'd have to be very selfish to be against national healthcare I think. +Sammied99 It's a mixed economy. Competition tends to make things always better for the consumer.
      Yeah, allowing imports of drugs from outside sources means the guys here don't have complete control of the market, and prices would fight and drop. The problem is the government doesn't like this. Why? I don't know, oh wait, probably because of the shit ton of bribes they take in pandering the the companies that would benefit a lack of that kinda competition. In America, companies have a right to address a grievance with the government. Unfortunately, that "grievance" is "we want more money" or "we want more power". Our government being the spoiled powermad brat that it is, eagerly gobbles up "campaign contributions" (bribes), and under the table benefits and gifts (bribes) and in doing so, essentially takes legislation and ideas for those companies, by those companies and tries to pass them simply to scratch eachother's backs. In short, if you have money, you can get the government to turn OUR system in to THEIR system.

If they want to be at car shows, they're not even allowed to advertise their prices. And these rules are created by people in government that like to advocate a free market. We all know it's because they have another agenda (probably having received campaign contributions from oil industries) but it's so ridiculous how contradictory they can be!

    • @MoralDeQue

      Rules so an intimidating competitor will have difficulty entering our market, made by people who advocate a "free market". Sounds about right. They want a market free... of competition and new ideas. Likely "campaign contributions" happened, strings pulled, favors done. It's always the same: There's two sides, one being the objective, almost always selfish in nature and almost always arbitrarily benefiting one group over another. The other is the PR horseshit "reason". The Shit and the Smokescreen.
      Electric power is predominately coal powered with some variety. Gasoline/Petrol isn't needed so yeah, likely the oil industry isn't happy. As Tesla gets more and more popular, it won't matter. Texans will get what Texans want, just remember who passed that legislation and never forget who your enemies are. They will certainly hope you do.

    Your struggles with health insurance are pretty much one of the same major factors that shaped my childhood & early adulthood. I got into a car accident when I was 10 years old, right before Bush became president. There was no Obamacare back then. So from age 10 all the way until I was 22 & got married, no health insurance would cover me because of my pre-existing conditions. It really amazed me how people & even children who are rejected by all health insurance companies really are treated as second class citizens by the doctors, the rest of the medical industry, & by even their own family. And I’m not the only person that I’ve seen this happen to. I’m convinced that there is a serious eugenics agenda by the fact that people are being denied health insurance, & I firmly think it’s one of the leading factors that tears family’s & communities apart. Thanks for the great work bro. Namaste.

Just because the NHS exists it doesn't stop you from being able to purchase private healthcare. Also you're not making any sense. Anybody who thinks socialized healthcare is such a great idea should come here to Canada, where it's a struggle to even find a doctor, and when you need to go to the hospital, you can sometimes wait for over 12 hours for a five minute appointment, depending on your condition.
    Granted, in the States, the healthcare system isn't any better, but all this to say our system isn't as great as you may think it is. I haven't had a routine doctor's appointment in about five years because I still haven't found a doctor ever since I've become a major (my old one was a pediatrist).

      In Australia we get around some of the high demand by subsidizing medical degrees. But even with that the wait list can be long and if you go to emergency room with something minor you'll be there a long time. I'm not even gonna go into high much it costs the government to maintain our medicare, who knows what happens when the country can no longer afford it.

    I work in medical billing so maybe I can give some advice. One option is to forget buying insurance and find a doctor who's willing to discount their fee down to what they'd get if you had insurance (they usually use Medicare fees). Insurances have their own fees which are almost always less than the doctor's fees. So if you have a high deductible plan, you're paying the insurance fee to the doctor anyway. Might as well get rid of the insurance and then at least you won't have a monthly premium. Another option is to see if you guys qualify for Medicaid. Usually as long as you're making under or up to a certain amount per month (whatever the state considers low income) you might qualify. It's always worth checking. As far as the insurance tax, it's cheaper to pay it than pay a monthly insurance premium. My husband didn't have insurance for six months last year and I think the penalty was only around $70. Hope that info helps!

      Look at your situation, then imagine if your income was halved, or less.
      I see people in the US fighting for a $15 minimum wage. The national minimum is like 7.50. Holy shit, there's people. assuming they have full time work, on 15k a year.
      I get saying the system is shit, but you are rich compared to many people in your country, let alone the world. So don't say 80k isn't rich, because I can see it's amount others can only dream about.

Non-citizens/foreign investors surely did fuck up a lot of the home prices here in America. You might be to young to know about this but this has been going on for a while... pre 07/08 housing crisis. Look facts are facts and most countries without citizenship you cant buy real estate. Why? Because they know that this influx would fuck everything up. Heck I didn't even mention The Blackstone Group!
