The super low drops are also because of some addons, like nameplates with all the auras and buffs etc., basically anything that tracks stuff in realtime and has to analyse the combatlog. Even so many years after the release of the classic, the game still cannot multi-thread and is still poorly optimized, especially for AMD processors. But even despite this, these were the best 8 years of my life ; )
wtf are you talking about? 7800x3d and 9800x3d give the best WOW experience, no intel CPU can come close. FPS drop in crowd area is due to network bottom neck since WOW is a MMO.
wtf are u talking, if you don't know the specifics of the WoW game engine, it has always been better optimized for Intel processors, especially if we are talking about older versions of this game
Great for synthetic benchmark but this game still is not meant to be played with everything all cranked up. Tbh I never found a good reason to go over shadow quality good same with liquid and set view distance to 7 along with ground clutter and environment detail. All the rest yeah crank it up but those settings I mentioned have a huge impact and are barely noticeable while actually playing. Still good choice to show with everything cranked up to give a "worst case scenario" view.
The game is made on an Engine quite literally made for the last mileni (it was made in 1999), when even having duo-core processors was a novelty. It is insanely hard to make it utiliize more than 1 core. They did a lot of optimisation over the years and now the game actually works very well and utilizes the GPU too, compared to what it was back in Legion it's night and day. People do not give enough credit to the developers. It is a feat what they could do with such an outdated engine.
@@Fr33mxbut why not replace the engine completely? Like they could have tried it the last 10 years or so. I can imagine that refactoring the thing is crazy complicated
12900k+4090 = 60-70fps in the heaviest scene area i can find in major hub. 9800x3d+4090 = lowest i had was 140fps lol X3D is just completely bonkers for WoW (This is without Ray Tracing, since that is completely useless in this game)
100+ FPS in the middle of Dornogal, 160+ in epic battleground (well, in non-combat)...wow that's impressive results. Getting 100+ in the current main city is pretty much unheard of. Sucks that Ion (lead dev) pretty much confirmed they aren't planning on any major technical overhauls to the engine, they are leaving soooooo much performance on the table.
I have a 12th Gen CPU and 7800 GPU, I get just around 100 FPS in Dorn at full graphics and ray tracing on. But yeh same issues in the video, the minute things start going off, FPS cranks down.
Just for those curious. If you use pro raider settings (to reduce lag and stuttering). I average 100-160 fps in dornogal depending on the congestion with this cpu and a 4090. Most dungeon and open world content is 200+. And parts of the raid are still 40 fps 😂.
@@Airbag888 pretty sure its need because my 7950xd had a big difference with it from 40 fps in City. Before i had 60 fps in Dorn after i have 100 - 130

@@Airbag888 Thanks for the Explanation. Still i´m wondering about the fps cause my system with 4090 works much better in open world too. Tought there will be an improvement with that new CPU. In Hallofall i have around 165 FPS, but here we see it lower
Something is off with your system. Are you on W11 24H2? I know its a MMO so its hard to validate some of the settings, but i picked a spot where you have very little people activity. And i am getting way more FPS than you (3440x1440) . Is it the CMAA2 & 8x8AA? Cause i don't use that since CMAA makes text blurry.
could you test this game with the 9800X3D and the other GPUs you own? Especially interested to see the performance of the 4070 with this thing... I'm also surprised at your results, because in another community I'm active in, people were getting 150 FPS with that CPU at 1440p without raytracing using a 4080, also in Dornogal.
What is happening when fps drop to 20 in fight scenes, usage of cpu on 1 core goes to 70% but for 1 sec, and not on 100%, so in that moment even future next gen 10800x3d not gonna make difference?
Where's that Ray Tracing? Can't see any 😅. Sorry, but I've expected something closer to the unofficial mods RTX based on Portal that are availabale on YT. Can't hide that I'm a little disapointed...
These seem to be lower numbers than what I'm getting. I have a similar setup I just built with a 4080 Super, 9800X3D, and 32GB CL30 6000MHz ram. Resolution is 1440p (1440p 240Hz OLED) and have max settings with Ray Tracing on. In Dornogal on a high pop server, I'm always 150+ fps. In many of the zones you show I'm 200+ fps most of the time, nearly hitting the fps cap, which is 225 with NVIDIA Reflex on a 240Hz monitor. Normal BGs have been 150+ fps. Have not tested Epic BGs yet. I spent a lot of time tweaking NVIDIA control panel and windows settings, but it seems odd especially with a 4090.
I hope there is something wrong with this since i get close similar numbers on my 4070 ti super and I7 14700kf. Only difference is that my GPU usage is higher. CPU is on stock speeds and 7200mhz 32 CL ram.
I've been having the same problem for months, I've done everything and I can't stop the wow stuttering. I had managed to make wow perfect with the 3060 ti, the gpu was using 100% and in dorgonal with the graphics on 5 it reached 200 fps, however i bought a 4070 super and it is horrible, it uses a maximum of 30% of the gpu com um ryzen 5700x3d. I think there is some compatibility problem with wow
No one plays with high settings especially in battlegrounds or raids, will be nice to have a real scenario with low settings, I guess I will have to wait and test it myself haha thanks tho
Great video! Sad the game content is not in a good place to play right now…I just watched next patch updates coming and season 2 dungeon pools and I’m already considering skipping the next 3 months
I just mean cl36 means allot when the correct amount is apparently cl30 for 6000mhz ram. Tbh it's a math thing and it goes by the speed times what the mhz are or something like that 😂. I have cl36 ram, but it's 6800mhz...
I couldn't believe the low bg fps, cpu and gpu usage. The best of the best performing so poorly. There needs to be some kind of optimization Blizzard needs to make happen.

I have the perception that the WoW engine is not very efficient. My notebook has an RTX 4060, and it maintains 60 FPS in dornogal, while in regular maps it ranges between 130-165 FPS on Ultra settings with Ray Tracing off.
Are you playing on all settings maxed as him though? I'm on 5600x and it's potatoes in city and raids especially in combat and I wonder if I should go for 5700x3d or fully splurge for a 9800x3d + platform
@@Airbag888 Same settings, im about 10% lower in Dornogal compared to his rig, which i think speaks to the game being poorly performant since we've seen the comps on better benchmarks. Still good choice to show with everything cranked up to give a "worst case scenario" view.
I recommend visiting the New Moon Fair. Especially the coast.
What did you use to display FPS?
Ty man for benchmark.
1:43 ok good to know, in this scenario i thought i was the only one who lagged like mad here in these big pvp fights lol
30 fps and 20% utilization on GPU and CPU. Nice game
20 years of optimization brah...
@@Fr33mxStop Riding Blizzs D . 😂 you look pathetic
@@Fr33mxbut why not replace the engine completely? Like they could have tried it the last 10 years or so. I can imagine that refactoring the thing is crazy complicated
And that not even in 4k
Thank you so much ! Now i know what fps will be getting for wow
In populated cities it easily reaches 70 degrees, the question is does that graph make noise?
Hey. i got rtx 4080s and 7800x3d. Nice to see compare between your setup.
12900k+4090 = 60-70fps in the heaviest scene area i can find in major hub.
9800x3d+4090 = lowest i had was 140fps lol
X3D is just completely bonkers for WoW
(This is without Ray Tracing, since that is completely useless in this game)
Its because the game can only use 1 or 2 cores apparently
I'm running an 8700k no Oc atm and looking for upgrade. What CPU would you recommend for this game? Thank you
We recommend the ‘7800X3D’ with the biggest discount and the cheaper b650 board.
7800x3d / 9800x3d
Watching videos like this makes it feel less bad to still play on i5-6600k and 1060 6gb 😂😅
1:47 There are certain things that don't change, unfortunately...
Is there a way to set wow to use 99-100% of the gpu? It always drops to 20-50% usage, while classic anniversary is always at 100%
cool video, but is here a real diff between rtx and not?
Just for those curious. If you use pro raider settings (to reduce lag and stuttering). I average 100-160 fps in dornogal depending on the congestion with this cpu and a 4090. Most dungeon and open world content is 200+. And parts of the raid are still 40 fps 😂.
you must be joking.. xD 2k$ for 40 fps in raid is just not ok.
@ I think they have been slowing bringing it up to standard. Lots of those drops are gone now.
Did you use process lasso vor only 3d cache? Its a huge difference in performance
9800X3D doesn't need it, it's 1 ccd
@@Airbag888 pretty sure its need because my 7950xd had a big difference with it from 40 fps in City. Before i had 60 fps in Dorn after i have 100 - 130
@@TruFacts92 your 7950x3d has 2 ccd. the first ccd was not connected to the 3d cache so yes you needed it. (There's another method without process lasso too)
@@Airbag888 Thanks for the Explanation. Still i´m wondering about the fps cause my system with 4090 works much better in open world too. Tought there will be an improvement with that new CPU. In Hallofall i have around 165 FPS, but here we see it lower
@@TruFacts92 Are you playing with everything maxed out too? What resolution?
For me, the ray tracing made the picture better only on the island of Dorne
Something is off with your system. Are you on W11 24H2?
I know its a MMO so its hard to validate some of the settings, but i picked a spot where you have very little people activity. And i am getting way more FPS than you (3440x1440) . Is it the CMAA2 & 8x8AA? Cause i don't use that since CMAA makes text blurry.
Could be model using weakauras. Each model using weakaura takes about 10-15 fps. Some addons are very demanding aswell.
@@johnblud6617 he was on stock
i get the same performance on rtx 3070ti + 5800x (not x3d) is it just the game engine being so old?
Jansn thanks for the upload! one question, will you benchmark the 5080 or the 5090 with this new chip in the upcoming future?
Yes, the 5090 will replace the 4090 asap.
@ siick!
@@Jansn bro please benchmark again the WOW when you have the 5080/5090. looking forward for it, thank you
That drop in FPS is due to server side, I mean the GPU can’t render if it doesn’t have the data of the frame coming in at the speeds needed.
And now were starting to realise that the fact that hes monitoring his GPU power during this is probably why his lows seem so bad at times 👍
could you test this game with the 9800X3D and the other GPUs you own? Especially interested to see the performance of the 4070 with this thing...
I'm also surprised at your results, because in another community I'm active in, people were getting 150 FPS with that CPU at 1440p without raytracing using a 4080, also in Dornogal.
and when do you activate ray tracing?
there is no ray tracing on this game
But, the title say ... @@Murriz
THANK YOU for showing it in IoC/WG, i'm getting 2 FPS in that first team clash on those maps and addons are throwing errors from timing out.
I can't tell a different between ray tracing and normal lighting in WoW
What is happening when fps drop to 20 in fight scenes, usage of cpu on 1 core goes to 70% but for 1 sec, and not on 100%, so in that moment even future next gen 10800x3d not gonna make difference?
FPS meter it's not 100% accurate
1:44 It wasn't this time that at the moment of the shock the FPS dropped below 30.
All that expensive gear and it went down to 30 fps! That's crazy
Thanks was looking for this, keep in mind this is without add-ons, so there will be some performance loss.
I currently have a 7800x3d/4090 waiting for my 9800x3d on pre order :(
Thank You!
Flagship cpu and gpu and the framerate is really low. I remember on vanila we used to play with no gpu at all.
*cries in 9900K + 3080 Ti*
Where's that Ray Tracing? Can't see any 😅. Sorry, but I've expected something closer to the unofficial mods RTX based on Portal that are availabale on YT. Can't hide that I'm a little disapointed...
I have i9 9900 and rtx 4070ti, do you guys think if its worth to get that one cpu ? Or some new amd for better wow performance.
You will probably double your FPS with a 9800X3D.
Yes it's worth , since Wow heavily depends of CPU
I'm running WoW at 1980x1200 on a 4060 mobile and getting 100+ fps on 10. I'm very pleased.
have you tried what happens if you up the resolution to 2160p?
btw you gain more 1% lows if you use 64gb of memory instead of 32gb :)
No
Soo no point in upgradeing PC... thanks alot for this.
Pls try same but all addons off.
I hope there is something wrong with this since i get close similar numbers on my 4070 ti super and I7 14700kf. Only difference is that my GPU usage is higher. CPU is on stock speeds and 7200mhz 32 CL ram.
I find turning off all the compatibility settings helps alot with fps and lag spikes
Nice video!
This is Awesome ... Biggest Hardware on Market and it drops to under 30 in PVP :D ... no one ever should say "WoW runs on a Potato" again :D
it runs the same on potato :D
everyone knows you run epic bgs on 1 or low with projected turned on. its always been that way.
Guys im thinking of buying high end GPU . Should i wait for 5090 release ? Using decent GPU rn
Drop your UI scale to 93%, and it will make the game so much better in performance and my opinion graphics too. Also, set your contrast to 69%
Do you think 9800X3D is big upgrade for WoW vs 7800X3D ?
Que ven en ese voleo de luces? no veo mas que eso
are you for real you are using a 4090?? i get allmost the same on rtx 3050 lol if not even better... are you using only 16gb ram?
Good video, just based off your IoC footage, seems like what others are seeing with a noticeable degradation in large player environments with TWW.
Okay so this is not a graphic lag issues, the issues is the lag latency you get on rbgs, there is too much going on while yall battling so that happens
No one plays with high settings especially in battlegrounds or raids, will be nice to have a real scenario with low settings, I guess I will have to wait and test it myself haha thanks tho
100 fps in Dornogal with 4090. This game is crazy 😂
Love the bench marks but you should do the new raid as that has been awful for performance.
I use Ultra settings only in winter.
Thanks for the info.
so it's better than Ryzen 7 7800X3D or not???? I dnt wanna waste my money.
I get between 70 and 100 fps in crowded dornogal with a geforce rtx 4070 super and amd ryzen 5700x3d
Great video! Sad the game content is not in a good place to play right now…I just watched next patch updates coming and season 2 dungeon pools and I’m already considering skipping the next 3 months
Building a pc now ,because my laptop drops fps to 9....and see on top setup possible drops to 30 says me to change a game not pc 😢😢
Dude has 4090 and 7800x3d... and cl36 6000mhz ram?
I just mean cl36 means allot when the correct amount is apparently cl30 for 6000mhz ram. Tbh it's a math thing and it goes by the speed times what the mhz are or something like that 😂. I have cl36 ram, but it's 6800mhz...
Thanks brother.
I couldn't believe the low bg fps, cpu and gpu usage. The best of the best performing so poorly. There needs to be some kind of optimization Blizzard needs to make happen.
Just dont play epic bgs. Thats 80 people, normal bgs are only 16 people.
Without turbo boost epic bg are low fps robo dance. Otherwise it is little yes show everytime a mass pvp brawl breaks out or in dungeons.
I have the perception that the WoW engine is not very efficient. My notebook has an RTX 4060, and it maintains 60 FPS in dornogal, while in regular maps it ranges between 130-165 FPS on Ultra settings with Ray Tracing off.
Still getting "cinematic" FPS in pvp :D
Thanks for making these. Im on a 5700X3D, 7900XT. My FPS is comparable. WoW definitely has performance issues that need to bw solved.
I'm waiting for a B850 motherboard series sometime next year. Not a fan of the current B650s. The 5700X3D was a stopgap off aliexpress.
@@Muppet-kz2nc yeah I'm also considering it as a stop gap... did you get it for $130? now lowest I see is $159.. if you got a link grateful for a share
chances are the problem cannot be fully solved unless they completely change out the games engine and thats a lot of work they are most likely are not willing to put in for "optimisation" reasons.
blizz have absolutely murdered all ryzen 5000 series owners and we all need to buy x3d processors to play this SUBSCRIPTION BASED GAME BY THE FUCKING WAY
the game looks better with ray tracing off from my testing, not worth the fps loss. and we both have the exact same pc setup xD
So thats the build you need to get >100fps in Dorgonal.... GJ blizz devs
thaxx for video need now to upgraded my swet hart 10 70 ti plaing wow from 2013 teel now for tha hoord but need letil mone to teek 3090 its good for me 😇
im laso empresev how that game is hard for 4090 in pvp time if you see comen down to 18~28 FPS wooow i like pvp
I’m using 7900xt and get similar fps with the 6800x3d. I feel like the game engine is just poorly optimized.
Macht 60 FPS mehr die Hardware als ein 5900x + 3080ti Gespann 😉👍
