one of my friends, who was also a classmate, passed away this year unaliving himself. it was a very sudden death, we learned about it in class while preparing for masters degree entry exams. when i watched this episode, the whole anime started resonating with what we were living. the feeling of being suddenly out of the world, on a different timeline, knowing the life is still going on outside but being stuck together in that nonsense. everyone coping in a different manner, immersing themselves into work, isolating, being incapable of staying alone, lashing out on others, wanting to control everyting searching, trying to understand, sadness, anger, frustration. and finally gathering his and our memories, organizing the funeral and more or less letting go to return back to our timeline. sorry that was a lot haha, but it suddenly made sense to me
Sorry for what happened to you, internet stranger. Grief is a difficult thing to process, but I'm glad you found some reflection through this anime. I hope you're doing better now.
In the opening scene of the episode you can see that Mizuho has been crying. The entirety of the song washes over us as we watch Nozomi’s funeral and how her passing has affected Mizuho and Nagara. We’re left with the image of Nozomi’s overwhelming optimism as they plan to return home. Simply beautiful.

What an incredibly moving song. Even if you detach the anime's scene and meaning from it, the composition is such an amazing rollercoaster of emotions. The way her voice drags and fades up and down is gripping, and at the end the way the horns feel like they are desperately struggling to move along the progression.
