  • When Jason Bourne tracked down his safe deposit box in The Bourne Identity, he found everything he needed to survive within it. Adam shows Norm his version of the Bourne burn bag, which includes a mixture of actual props from the film, recreations, and replicas.

    If you could collect or recreate props from a film, which would it be?

      I loved Ghost in the Shell personally as I was a huge fan of the source material and it was a pretty faithful recreation of the original. I loved looking at all the practical props for the movie. There is a lot of amazing props I would love to recreate if I could such as the Major's Thermoptic Pistol which you guys might be even able to do as a one day build :P

    "I'll always have the original, but if other people want one, I want them to have one."
    Adam is my favorite person ever. That is SUCH a great attitude to have, and it's the epitome of the best part of the propmaking community.

    I love that Adam mentions the weight of real guns as opposed to the rubber and plastic props that are onscreen unless actual blanks are being fired. I've introduced dozens of people to firearms and target shooting over the years, and for the longest time, I never understood why virtually every time (Yes, after my LONG safety lecture.) I handed someone their first real firearm, no matter how small, the first thing they said was basically, "It's heavy". Then I learned more about movie production and whatnot, and developed my theory: When you spend your life watching people handle rubber and plastic lightweight prop guns on film, you are unconsciously developing a sense of what they weigh based on how they move and how people move with them. If you watch carefully, you can see that you get visual cues from things like the prop guns' lack of inertia when they are moved, how little the straps and fittings of holsters sag and pull when prop guns are put in them, and things like that, including throwing them, as Adam mentions. There are also more obvious things, like actors casually picking up and pointing pistol-grip shotguns with one hand. Try that with an actual shotgun, and see how long you can manage it. So the first time someone picks up a real firearm, the lies that they've been absorbing visually for years are instantly corrected, and it's just a little shocking. It even caught me when I picked up my first real submachine gun, which happened to be a MAC-11. Those little guys are about three and a half pounds unloaded, and I was completely surprised at the heft, despite years of shooting, entirely due (I believe) to watching people wave around plastic replicas in movies. And things will stay that way, since now it's easy and cheap to animate muzzle flash, spent cases ejecting, etc., in post-production. (Granted, something is usually screwed up when they do that, but only gun nerds notice.) There's really not much need for even blank-firing guns in a lot of scenes anymore.
    For the record, I have no clue why I bothered to write any of this, since it's completely nerdy and no one cares. But hey, this is a Tested video. Nothing wrong with nerdy, I guess....

      +Jason A This was so satisfying to read (and very true, I guess.) I live in a country where you don't really get your hands on a gun but I remember being handed one and I just thought "These are so heavy, oh my!"

      I went to a shooting range for the first time a few weeks ago, and despite knowing about rubber pistols and such before (partly from this channel) and even knowing what some real guns weigh from like Wikipedia etc. I was still surprised.
      But what got me the most was HOW F***ING LOUD THEY ARE.

    • @Faithless0415
      @Faithless0415 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, they're loud. And if you're in an indoor range it's about ten times worse. The concrete walls make a .22 pistol sound like a howitzer.

    • @RoryStarr
      @RoryStarr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Blank-firing guns are also still a safety risk (albeit low). So the elimination of them, particularly in crowded scenes, makes perfect sense to me.

One side note though: if the hosts could stop interfering with Adam (and Jamie, in his segments) it would elevate this even higher. The guys are experienced, knowledgeable and we want to hear them talk. You don't need to get a word in edgewise every other sentence, you really don't.

    I like your slight obsession with his safety deposit box. You include things that should belong or are shown so neatly. That said, what was missing for me was [1.] a bag that Jason could quickly leave with that wouldnt draw much attention to his person. Though our exploration of his life would be interrupted greatly, it goes either way.
    The other pet peeve [2.] is the lack of a flash light. A torch is invaluable if not sought after as a survival tool.
    Not complaints about your choices. More just the art director missing on something that is important.

    There are some errors on the German INTERPOL fax. I don't know if Adam copied it word for word or if he made it up himself, but here's the issues:
    Nationalität: Deutsch (ä is just an a on the print)
    Haarfarbe: Blond (Blondine is a more or less insulting term for a blond girl, usualy to point out she's stupid)
    Augenfarbe: Blau ('Auge' is only signular and you say 'Augenfarbe' if you address the color)
    Gewicht: 70kg ('Belastung' is mechanical or psychological stress, not weight. And noone spells out 'Kilogramm'. Plus it's always singular, no "kilogrammen")
    Gesichtsfarbe: Messe Haut (I have no idea what that means. "Gesichtsfarbe" is the skin tone specifically of your face. "Messe Haut" means "fair skin" as in MakerFair. Doesn't make sense. I think what it's supposed to say is "Hautfarbe: hellhäutig" (Skin color: white)
    Spiegel: Nein (No idea... Translates to 'mirror: no')
    Sonst: Charles F..ster Kane (The 'Sonst' sounds odd.. Who is Charles F. Kane? Is it an alias?)
    Aufenthaltsort: USA, Frankreich, ... ('Bereich' means something different)
    I hope I could help to make this shelf a little more accurate... :

      John Kapri Ich gehe davon aus, dass die Produzenten dieser Filme denken, dass niemand jemals diese Details beachten würde; aber jedes Mal wenn die deutsche Sprache in Filmen vorkommt kommt es mir so vor als ob irgendjemand der noch nie mit der Sprache etwas zu tun hatte, die englischen Begriffe bei Google Translate eingibt und einfach blind das erste Ergebnis verwendet. So etwas ist ziemlich trivial aber irgendwann geht es einem schon ein bisschen auf die Nerven haha

    • @sourcererseven3858
      @sourcererseven3858 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good catch on "Messe Haut" (tade-fair skin), wouldn't have made that connection.
      Yes, I believe the "Sonst" was supposed to be "known aliases" or something to that effect. If you consult google translate on "alias" it will give you "sonst bekannt" (otherwise known [as]), which maybe was a bit too long for the layout they wanted. I'm not in law enforcement and no police-series nerd, but my best guess what could be used on such documents would be "bekannte Decknamen"
      That said, if Adam wants to recreate the props of the film, he will probably want to recreate the mistakes as well ;)

      Greg Aub
      Israel and Saudi Arabia are still enemy states since 1948 (even though no combat has ever taken place between them). If you attempt to enter either country with a stamp from the other, that would immediately ring all sorts of alarm bells with the passport authorities. In Israel you would likely get stopped for questioning, a background check, a baggage search, and possibly worse if they don't trust what you're saying. In Saudi Arabia, you're more likely to get arrested immediately.
      There are unofficial channels through which movement of citizens between the two countries can be arranged (such as when Israeli Arabs go on the Hajj) - but Bourne is a secret agent, he's supposed to do his best to _avoid_ drawing attention, and it's not like he doesn't have a whole collection of other passports he could use...

Just wait till they have atleast put it on the table before you grab it from their hands. Also let people finish their sentences. Bond had it right with his ribbon of gold sovereigns hidden in his case. Maybe that bond case from, From Russia With Love could be Adam's next Obsessive masterpiece.

    This is unbelievable, I've used that Mitsubishi uni-ball pen for some time and it was the best one I've ever used. Recently I haven't been able to find more anywhere and now I find out from Adam Savage that it was in Bourne's bag and that it's now discontinued.

    I would like to point out though, that another contributor to the towers falling was the fact that there was a huge gaping hole in the side of both towers, which in turn made that side of the tower weaker. With all the weight of the floors above on top of it, it was only a matter of time before the weaken part would collapse, causing the whole structure to fall.
