Lia! He recognized Robocop because he said the same thing to him in the factory: "Dead or alive you're coming with me." :)
Exactly! That's when Emile knew.
This is Paul Verhoeven’s masterpiece. “Bitches leave” is one of the greatest one liners in cinematic history
I thought Showgirls was his masterpiece 😂😂😂
Being Dutch there is no word for bitch,so he actually referred to the actresses as them blindly.
I saw this great film in the theater when it was first released, and I still lmao at that iconic line. The audience loved it too!!😊
I don't understand the hype some have over that line...
Yep indeed and they chose the right actor to play Clarence Boddicker Kurt Wood Smith.
👍👍
8:01 What Viki said about Clarence not looking like a mafia boss is insightful. According to Kurtwood Smith, Clarence likes to see himself as a social revolutionary, not just a criminal, and his sense of style is supposed to reflect that.
Verhoeven wanted actually him to look alike a german SS like Heinrich Himmler
Yes! The filmmaker also didn't want Boddicker and his guys to be an ethnic gang, that's why they have a black guy, Asian guy, white guy, etc.
interesting fact: after "Directive 4" 25:26 Robocop's computer-side got shut down completely and everything from that point on was controlled by murphy - the human,
so considering all factors, OCP gave a person a full body prothesis
He recognized him because he said "Dead or alive you're coming with me" like the first time.
Why do so many people miss this? I noticed it when I watched it for the first time as a kid. (Probably shouldn't have watched it at that age but whatever)
Also, that eerie music that plays right after he says that line to the villain, is the same music that played after the first time he said it. It's the director's way of giving you another cue to help you make the connection.
A lot of people don't get when Murphy is "killed" and Boddicker's goon shot him, he wear a bulletproof armor so his real wounds are his right arm and the bullet to the head, that's why his torso seems mostly intact when lying on the operation table.
You mean his right arm and head.
@@scottdecker9115 yes, i got the wrong arm. (Corrected)
All those bullets would tear through that armor tho
*”I’d buy that for a dollar!”* 😄
18:25 Emil recognized him because Murphy said "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" the first time he tried to arrest Emil before the gang killed him.
I love that the guy who plays Clarence Brodicker, the great Kurtwood Smith, went on to play one of my favourite TV dads, Red Forman, in That 70s Show.
Even better villian
21:58 Because Paul Verhoeven is Dutch and Jost vacano, his director of photography for this scene, is German, they didn't realize how offensive and the word "b**ch" is in English, so they kept addressing and referring to the two actresses "the b**ches" while directing the scene. Miguel Ferrer (Bob) said that "the b**ches" didn't seem to have a problem with it and that he and Kurtwood Smith (Clarence) were cracking up between takes.
Yes and one was communicating in Dutch and the other was speaking in german. Never seen a script and did no changes to it. None of them have been living in usa, did not know any english and never heard and/or knew the meaning of very little known word like "bit*h". Seem logical and real 😂😂. True story bro.
Not really offensive
In an interview for an anniversary edition, Ray Wise was asked how it felt to star in a movie that became such a pop culture icon. He said he was just happy that they made an interesting movie and that it tuned out to be good. He said "The rest is just gravy on the cake... GRAVY on the CAKE?" realizing he had mixed up his metaphors.
He should've said " Dead or alive ur coming with me"
That was actually Ray Wise - who played Leon Nash, one of the villains - who stated that 'gravy on the cake' line.
th-cam.com/video/eoxGTYKjSpg/w-d-xo.html
Mmmmm gravy cake.
Gravy on the cake is a beautiful phrase that I will now use forever
Nuke'em is a real board game. But it's sadly not in mass production.
Back at the steel mill before Murphy got shot he said that exact same quote to Emil in his exact words " Dead or alive you're coming with me." That's how Emil recognized RoboCop from that quote and said "I know you"
One of my favorites since I was 8 years old. This movie predicted the future we currently live in. Verhoven’s SciFi trilogy is this, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers.
Nice reaction ladies. Yes, this movie is amazing, and it also is deeply insightful. Robocop was a machine, but also a man. Lewis saw this. He wasn't just property. He was someone's, husband and father. Lewis was critical piece of puzzle as she stuck by Murphy's side. She was compassionate, kind, principled and strong character. As was the Sergeant. They knew Murphy before he was Robocop. If you noticed in the end his human side took over...when he told Clarence, "I am not arresting you anymore." This is key dialogue that some may not catch.
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. The dark humor and graphic violence surprised me. Great movie
”Dead or alive ..you're coming with me” best in this movie.I loved this movie growing up
When "Robocop" became a verified theatrical hit, a new TV ad was made that included quotes from glowing reviews and clips from the movie of Bob, Emil, and Murphy saying "I (edited) love that guy!" "I-I-I-I-I LIKE it!" and "Thank you for your cooperation." It was great.
I first saw this as a kid and on VHS, one of the things that really didn't click was when they were discussing that they had managed to save Murhpy's arm; Bob Morton response was "I thought we agreed on total body prosthetis? Lose the arm".
I didn't get at the time, but what they meant was, they were removing the brain and part of the spine and throwing away everything else!
Being a method actor, Peter Weller wanted everyone to call him Robocop or Murphy whenever he was in costume, and so, being a wiseass, Kurtwood Smith made sure to always call him Peter.
18:35 the guy didn’t recognize RoboCop from his masked face. He recognized him when he said, “Dead or Alive you are coming with me.”
The movie succeeds so incredibly well because it asks the deep question, what does it really mean to be human? Where does human end and machine begin? It is also a social commentary about commercialism, all wrapped up in a story with blistering action, amazing special effects, and an excellent performance by Peter Weller under God knows how many pounds of armor he had to wear on set.
With transhumanism on the rise, the question of what it means to be human and where the line between being human and being a piece of technology is drawn is even more relevant today.
Yep! Murphy goes from human to robot and then finds his humanity again.
Robocop 2 would be a fun reaction to watch!
18:53 I like that Lia was concerned about what happened to the "college guy" gas station attendant. She's such a sweetie.
Can’t believe you girls still hadn’t seen Robocop yet. Now that you have, it truly is an all time classic. Unapologetically violent yet humourous at the same time that perfectly depicted the state of the USA, if not the world back in the 80s. Peter Weller is a legend as Murphy and so glad you both cared for him throughout your reaction.
Please react on rrr
Verhoeven really pushed the envelope and created some memorable movies. Robocop is so iconic and quotable. Even now it's a jarring film. *Lia trying not to laugh when Emil was smeared by the car is my favorite moment of this reaction. 😆
27:50 And here, that's how he met his wife (IRL) :)
And they’re still married 😊
16:35 When Lia said that there was still something human inside of him, it gave me goosebumps seeing her and Viki pick up on one the key philosophical themes of the movie. These two are pretty, but they're not JUST pretty.
Me too, that was good. They caught that his humanity was coming back, that's one thing they couldn't kill.
Everyone, ya gotta see the Robocop documentary called Robodoc. It's a 4 part series that goes very deep into how it was made, all the effects etc. You really get a better understanding and appreciation of how these great 80's films were made. Robocop is such a special, unique and actually important film.
Five out of Five.
"Robocop" is a thoroughly satisfying action/sci-fi/crime hybrid romp that must be considered to be one of the most entertaining, ambitious, and dramatic films in the action genre; it is a bombastic shoot-'em up action flick, a futuristic Frankenstein movie with grandiose heroism, a striking graphic comic book that came to life, an exploration crime mystery film, and a haunting revenge drama with thought-provoking depth and serious themes of unruly political control, in this case, it deals with corruption.
Great summing up of all the themes its about
Excellent, my friend, excellent!😊
"Just gimme my fuggin phone call." was my answering machine message back in college.
Rob Bottin did the special make up effects for this movie. He also worked on John Carpenter's The Thing
He recognized him from hes line "Dead or alive youre comming with me" 🧐
11:41 They used Murphy's face (in Robocop 3," Dr. Lazarus says that Murphy's face and the portion of his brain that survived the gunshot are "HUMAN FLESH THAT'S ALIVE"), but he has an armored metal skull. According to Peter Weller, the reason for giving Murphy his face was based on real world psychological research that indicated that, without a human face looking back in their reflection, people become mentally unstable. I read an article titled "A Human Face" in "Psychology Today" (or another general public psychology magazine) that said essentially the same thing.
Better to ignore what robocop 3 said.
The original movie never said anything about a metal skull, so as far as I'm concerned it was his own.
@@TheRetroManRandySavage but that would be very stupid desing. And that skull would have been damaged like 20000 times during the movie.
@@akusworld5117 how would it have been damaged when it's encased in metal?
Did you see any marks on robocops head during the film?
They went with full body prosthesis only
(Arms and legs, which is full body prosthesis).
His head and torso was encased in the suit.
People seem to think he was just a brain because of what was written in followup films and comics, but that shouldn't count.
In the original movie they talk about him needing that food paste to sustain his organics, which included his digestive system.
mouth, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine and anus.
Although, I wish they would've explained why he'd need intestines and an anus because he obviously can't use a toilet, lol. Unless they empty his waste somehow.
Fun fact, (although you guys didn't show it), when Reed tossed him the keys to his car when he first became Robocop it took Peter Weller (Robocop) about 47 takes to catch it because the keys kept bouncing off of his hand because those were rubber gloves he had on. So it took a long time for him to catch them.
33:53 Lewies means that she's all messed up (i.e. extensively wounded), but Viki's comments about Lewis saying "I'm a mess" made me think of a line from "A Woman in Berlin." A Russian Red Army major in WW2 was talking about the female soldiers in his unit. He said that they drink and curse like men, but they worry that they won't be pretty when they die.
The old Robocop actor also voiced old age Batman in Batman The Dark Knight Returns.
Don't forget.. BUCKY BONZAI AND NAKED LUNCH
@@robogreek3157 I didn't know that.
There's also a spinoff called Lady Battle Cop.
In the Mayor scene, the actor playing the reporter that is speaking in this scene, a few years later became, and still is the voice of Goofy in the USA, Bill Farmer.
Dick Jones: you just F***** with the wrong guy.
Another great quote from the movie 👍👍
The violence in this movie is brutal. I saw it when I was 12 with my Dad. Probably a little to young but it was the 80's.
I thought it was awesome.
I also saw Predator that same year.
Thanks Dad
Sergeant Reed: Lewis come here when you finish f****** around with your suspect.
😆😆😆
I _love_ Robocop! Thank you so much for doing this. This movie exemplified and satarized the excesses of the 80's. It's a masterpiece.
Fun fact, the doctors and nurses that tried to save him, were actual doctors and nurses. The director wanted realism and told them to pretend that Murhpy was an actual gunshot patient. It came out far better than if the writer had written the dialogue himself.
And the secretary that Boddicker flirts with outside Dick's office was his real life wife.
Gotta love Murphy, he's like Captain American but with less emotion.

Pauk Verhoeven is such a genius. Watch Starship Troopers and Total Recall also.
So happy to see you ladies reacting to this Sci fi masterpiece of a movie. That has beyond stood the test of time.
Love your reactions when Murphy shoots the rap!st through the woman’s skirt. I was a kid when this came out and it was legendary. No other movie was quite like it. Even if the effects are dated, the humor and writing stand.
Red Foreman was a total bad ass before he settled down and raised a Family in Wisconsin
16:16: Did you notice when Dick touched Bob’s face in the restroom that he DIDN’T wash his hands after using the toilet?! 🤢
I’m shocked they didn’t even bother mentioning about it🤢🤮💩🧻
I believe Viki is now traumatized beyond all repair. Deuces to innocence. It’s been real.
😂 I was ten when this was released and went into it just by the name watching it on pirate vhs lol
Whoever thought of putting his gun in his leg is a god damn genius.
Robocop is a classic that has aged well very. Great reaction Homies! 👍🏿
Its kinda "COOL" how Robocop targets the "perps" in advance and the just kills em while he walks through the drug "den" ! 🤪
Hi 50 percent of The Homies: Great reaction to one of the great action classics of all time. 😎👍
I will highly recommend all 4 of you to watch the very underrated masterpiece "Fisher King" from 1991 starring Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams. I am quite sure, that you won´t regret it. 😇💯
Keep up the good work. 🏆
Best regards from Denmark
“I’m sure it’s just a glitch. A temporary set back”
“You call this a glitch?!”
Great reaction to this classic film. I really like the way the last scene is solved with pure logic. Thank you.
When the producers when shopping for product placement (how movies cut costs, is by having companies give them products to use in the movie for free in exchange for exposure in the movie) they went to Pontiac since at the time the Pontiac 6000 was popular. GM refused, hence the 6000 SUX which was intended to be a JAB at the Pontiac 6000 for GM's refusal.
Vikki is like "WTH am I watching?" 😂😂😂
"First, don't fuck with me. I'm a desperate man! And second, I want some fresh coffee. And third, I want a recount! And no matter how it turns out, I want my old job back!"
-Donald Trump's 2024 campaign slogan
YAY LIA AND VIKI!
Well people have survieded an iron bar through their head and bullits before.... so maybe he COULD survice a bullit and he DID wear a bullit proof west i dont know how effective it is against shotguns but im SURE it DID shield against ALOT of the small pellets from the shot guns but ofcourse NOT the massive amount he got !
Watched this at 8 or 10 years old. Found it traumatizing, hilarious, exciting and greatly entertaining. I'm no gamer, but there was an arcade game from the movie and was the only one I got to master. Great GenX-er memories.
I'm sorry but
"Can you fly, bobby?" Always gets me
I guess after watching Immortal Joe's face get ripped off, watching Enil burst into blood and guts isn't as shocking anymore.
Excellent choice!😁Great movie😀Story, action. You really feel sorry for what Murphy went through. And became true hero and protector
Do "Short Circuit (1986)" next.
In the first film,I figured the would make lewis a cyborg..food for thought.
Females who watch this film miss out not understanding some things within the movie🥴😅
I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
Here are some:
Comedy - Fired Up!
Comedy - Mardi Grah Spring Break carefull it has some n*des
Horror - Hatchet
Horror - Day Of The Dead 2008
Drama - Holes from Disney i think it is
Horror/Comedy - Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse
Drama - Hardball Keanou Reves
Romance - A Lot Like Love
Comedy - Mr Woodcock
The villain, Dick Jones played by Ronny Cox was in the first two Beverly Hills Cop films as a cop. He was also in the classic Burt Reynolds thriller film, "Deliverance" (1972) where he played the famous "Dueling Banjos" scene on guitar with a local Banjo player. Deliverance is a great classic old film, though its subject matter is not for everyone. Angelina Jolie's father was also in the same film (actor Jon Voight).
I also liked him in TNG as captain Jellico
The Homies - I'll buy that for a dollar! 😜😂😉
Ok maybe not that over the top, but yeah you can basically shoot a hand off with a shotgun cause their bullets are pretty thick, especially at that close range.
With a pistol the bullet would go through your hand & make a hole.
You're watching what a true rated-R movie is suppose to be, not like the crap of today!
Ok, there are a few really great rated-R movies of today also, but there are still many that are so weak that it looks pathetic! They could might as well be PG-13! Don't make a rated-R movie If you can't make one!
He recognized him from the line "Dead or alive, you're coming with me", which is such an iconic line! 😃🤘🙂
I'd buy that for a dollar!!! 😂
I’d buy that for a dollar! 😆
Glad to c u girls r watching the OG - ROBOCOP. I’ll admit, the newer version is pretty decent but reacting to this one first, is a good decision.
The first"Robocop"was perfect as is, should have left it alone.
7:08 this bit was made back in '87 and to this day, I dont think I´ve seen another movie where a woman is shown succumbing to temptation like this, and the guy taking advantage of it. In movies is always the other way around
The 2 villains (Ronny Cox and Kurtwood Smith,) were terrific and they added a great deal to this classic 😊
Fun Fact: They made a video game out of this movie too. Robocop Rogue City
Which btw, is the most recent Robocop game. I'm just saying! Robocop has had video games since the beginning back during the arcade/nintendo and sega days. Rouge City on the other hand, looks super fun and cool, way better than the other Robocop first person shooter game from back in the day which was awful. If you didn't know any of this regardless, there you go.
Watch the Crow
Please please please please please PLEASE watch 'Save the Last Dance' (2001)! 🙏
His bullet proof vest kept him alive temporarily but only for a few minutes
Around 5:20 i realized the satire is completely lost on these two, and I imagine there's nothing of value ahead
Edit: all other comments are explaining other key moments to the "reactors"
Why ED209 was fully loaded with live ammo is unclear to this day. RIP Mr. Kinney.
Peter Weller kicks ass in this. Glad you enjoyed it girls
DEAD OR ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been a big fan of your reactions and have followed you for a long time. I have both the special blu ray editions of Robocop 1 and 2. Part 3 is garbage. Robocop 1 is the best. I believe part 2 gets a bad rap. Not as good as 1 but an enjoyable movie in its own right. Will you be doing a reaction to part 2? Would love to see it. Keep up the great work!
I seen this movie when it first came out as a kid, and I've seen it at least a hundred times afterwards, at 4:39, I just noticed that it growls like a tiger LOL
Esto era cine de verdad, me encantaban estas películas de los 80s y 90s ❤
ROBOCOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Highly recommend the 2014 remake.
Holy s$%t, 1987 was a great year for entertainment🤗 - they don't make the Eighties like they used to😏. Full Metal Jacket, Predator, Appetite For Destruction, The Joshua Tree....and, of course, Robocop🤘😌.
30:02 - There's "RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop", a documentary mini-series which came out recently, if you can find it.
And Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors.
beautiful reactions
Greetings from Denmark 👋👋👋 I recommend watching the Complete Trilogy of ROBOCOP...the End is Beautiful, Finally ROBOCOP recovers what it lost, A Family😢
5:00 Whose bright idea was it to equip ED-209 with live ammunition?
suggestion of other 80s films
krull
legend
earth girls are easy
enemy mine
the adventures of buckaroo banzai
ladyhawke
explorers
dragonslayer
the adventure of baron munchausen
blowout
black cauldron
34:32 Hooo Lia, that sound and movement makes me a little crazy 😍🥰😎 Best regards😘😋
You know the movie is great when make-up and special effects from 1987 can still impress and freak out people in 2024.
The humming noise of ed-209always spooked me,like he,d explode or something.
