Double DX Locomotives on Kiwirail 974s Freight Service

Kiwirail 974s (Bankside - Port of Lyttelton) hauls containers full of export milk based products from the Synlait factory at Bankside. The Synlait siding was officially opened in May 2021. It was estimated that 16,000 truck movements and 888 tonnes of carbon emissions would be saved by railing the containers.

Thanks for watching. It is a shunters refuge, so they have somewhere to stand while shunting wagons, as there is no where safe to stand on the back of the locomotive. It also includes spare couplers that maybe required when coupling up to wagons that don't have the automatic couplers.

Same siren, but different frequency. It us used to alert the local fire service of a call out. The fire service is alerted by their pagers, but if no one responds after a certain number of minutes the alarm sounds as a backup, incase the pagers failed.
