Really prefer the old scoring, thanks for putting that in! I personally find it a more interesting viewer experience not to know whats coming. If I was watching live sport, then live scores would be great, but when watching it later on youtube its more engaging to feel like the whole field is playing at the same moment. Either way, love the coverage and am grateful for what you do.
Cool, that you guys are showing the old way of showing scores on round 1. I realized after one of my drunken rants, I mean late night constructive youtube comments, that round 1 is really where I missed it. It was too early of an indicator of of the Jomez card was going to be anywhere close or if they are already out of the tourney. .The later rounds, knowing scores of earlier cards is less impactful, as the players in the mix are mostly on close cards... Way to listen to feedback and compromise guys. 👍

HUGE thanks for the scoring change. It's nice to have breaks between holes showing where players are at (score/thru hole) but when people are literally 16 holes ahead, I don't wanna do math for the lead card. 😆😆😆
I know Americans love Jesus, but man, it feels like 50% of the touring pro's are very religious. I have nothing against it at all, but it feels like disc golf is super popular in the Christian community :D
Yeah there's a lot of churches with a course. I've played plenty of em just looking to see what's closest when I'm traveling. So I think there's a lot of bored young Christians finding disc golf on the property.

14:40 Nate is 100% correct in saying that shorter, technical shots are a huge part of the game that has been missing from a lot of pro tour courses recently. It's way more fun to watch and play a course like Waco. Par 4s and 5s are fun, but I just don't see why a single golf course should ever be used to create disc golf course.
Woods courses are way more demanding (usually) and more interesting. Just blasting 500 - 600 foot shots down a wide open fairway is impressive but ultimately boring. Shaping shots and scrambling is way more engaging for me to watch. There is such a thing as *_TOO MANY TREES!_*
Thanks for returning to the hole by hole scoreboard. Maybe the live scores can be cool during the final four holes of the tournament or so. But it’s way more interesting to see like this overall.

Religious players never fail to bring up their favorite unproven deity and all the great work they are doing together....so cringe. Child indoctrination should be illegal. I wish a player would thank Zeus or Poseidon for giving them the supernatural strength to throw discs in baskets so these "anointed by jesus" players could see what they look like to rational people.

I think the change of leaderboard coverage is great! Hopefully it isn't too confusing for new folk in the future but personally liked the former but I like the leaderboard style in general, no matter the method
Just wanted to mention that there may be a silent majority of people who, like me, have a positive view of the "new" way of doing the scores list (ie: sync to the current standings at the time of the play we're watching)
Don't know how I missed that blue lake wasn't a part of Portland state open this year. Definitely not emotionally prepared for that realization. I played Blue lake last year while spectating BSF. I lost 3 discs and shot +39.... Somehow still fell in love with the course and can't wait to go back.
I know the feeling. I ate my losses in blackberries (almost) compared to all the discs that were lost or unretrievable. Should have brought my knight's armor and a mace for the blackberries.
I kind of like the "live" scores and the thing you are doing with round 1 here. but i feel like you are moving the goalpost a bit, when you switched you also removed being able to see the whole card at once, I find myself not even realizing if the player is doing good or bad. Now i just see the shots and all of a sudden: "what, linus is doing THAT bad?". i REALLY miss the graphic for the whole card always showing, It was honestly what turned my on to jomez in the first place and i've been watching gatekeeper alot more instead of jomez after this change. although that contains some bias since the chase cards have been so great this year too which is what they are covering Gatekeeper's cameras also shows distance and speed of the disc way better which to me is more important than pretty colours as long as its not absolute trash quality, while at the topic of criticism :) I'm never gonna not watch as long as you have Sexton though, love what the guy brings to the trio
I really enjoyed the player highlight of Cole Redalen. Seems like such a mature person at a young age. Looking forward to seeing what he does here and in the future.
Sure does!! He's got a great mindset. I'm curious whether Gomez or whoever makes decisions on who to feature is religious, so many of the younger player highlights involve jesus. No hate just a thought

I have a suggestion for the scores: in the first round don't show any scores at all until hole 5. You can't tell how the field is looking until people have played a few holes. In subsequent rounds show updates every hole but keep it moving. Don't dwell on the field's scoring unless someone is going crazy, like Conrad shooting -17. At the very end of the tournament, maybe the last 5 holes or so, switch to time-based score updates so we can get the same tension the players do coming down the stretch. Also in the last 5 holes of the tournament crop the scoreboard so it's just the contenders, maybe everyone within 3 or 4 strokes. It's nice to see how your favorites are doing, but that can wait for the end; don't take focus away from the very top of the board. Then at the end of the tournament you can do a recap of how everyone did, which young up-and-comers did well, who had a really good tournament, etc., but do that after everything is decided or it distracts from the climax. Just use it as a nice denouement. The idea here is to keep the viewers updated but not focus on the scores when there's still going to be a lot of changes. But switch to the more "first person" view when that really starts to be how the leaders are making their decisions and captures the tension and excitement of "reliving" the player experience. The thing to keep in mind is that you're telling a story, and whichever players on lead card are in contention in the last round are the main characters - that's the perspective you want to show. At the beginning of the tournament you're just playing holes trying to get good scores; it doesn't matter how anyone else is doing yet. A little ways in you can check in on how other people are doing, but it's still all about just playing your own game, hole by hole, so that's how you show the scores. At the end it's either match play or a giant scramble for birdies based on what everyone else is doing, so you switch to real time scoring.
Honestly, while I'd personally prefer this score style for all rounds, I don't mind the compromise at all. Round 1 is by far where the live scores bothered me the most. Thanks for listening!
I like this scoring table. Please keep it! You may want to show the real-time scoring card as it's getting relevant in the later stages of the tournament. Sets up the situation on say what the lead cards needs to score to stay in it... Great to see you back, Jerm! Seems like the time off did you good :D It just feels right to have you all three on the commentary like this... One missing kinda feels like something's off! Also, I really feel like things have fallen a little into place in this coverage. It feels more natural and you seem to be more at ease as I felt it a little "off" when the season started. Might have been something to do with the changes to the company and this is absolutely understandable. Disc golf just isn't the same without JoMezPro
As a Swede and big form geek this is literally my dream card. simon and heimburg for obvious reasons, linus because im a swede hoping he becomes like albert tamm, and redalen because of his sexy form and watching him bomb at this course last year

When I started watching disc golf, I loved all of the players and I was happy for any of them to win. Now all of these self-righteous, sanctimonious, holier-than-thou attitudes turn me off and I can't help but root against these players sniffing their own farts.
I would love to hear distances that are more exact for drives and for how far they have to the pin for every throw, I think that would really highlight some of the pros abilities compared to us mere motrals
Yeah, I think CCDG does this and they also started the thing with the disc speed indicator. I think they also shoot the distance to the basket from each player's lie. I think. Maybe I'm confusing two or three video teams?
@@marscruz I think you are correct, and CCDG premiered a lot of the little extra bits of information that we get from the other teams nowadays. And I have it on good authority (unless I remember wrong :P), that the teams do share ideas with each other and are very close knit groups of media teams. :)

I've noticed that the new camera operators don't always seem to be as good as Jonathan, Jerry and Mike were when they did all the shooting. I guess it takes time to develop that proficiency. I can't complain though. Free coverage is what is making the sport grow so fast and maybe the DGPT doesn't want to admit that. I can't watch live coverage. I've tried. It's too boring and slow. Too much advertising and useless filler material.

At the very end of the tournament, maybe the last 5 holes or so, switch to time-based score updates so we can get the same tension the players do coming down the stretch. Also in the last 5 holes of the tournament crop the scoreboard so it's just the contenders, maybe everyone within 3 or 4 strokes. It's nice to see how your favorites are doing, but that can wait for the end; don't take focus away from the very top of the board. Then at the end of the tournament you can do a recap of how everyone did, which young up-and-comers did well, who had a really good tournament, etc., but do that after everything is decided or it distracts from the climax. Just use it as a nice denouement.
The idea here is to keep the viewers updated but not focus on the scores when there's still going to be a lot of changes. But switch to the more "first person" view when that really starts to be how the leaders are making their decisions and captures the tension and excitement of "reliving" the player experience. The thing to keep in mind is that you're telling a story, and whichever players on lead card are in contention in the last round are the main characters - that's the perspective you want to show. At the beginning of the tournament you're just playing holes trying to get good scores; it doesn't matter how anyone else is doing yet. A little ways in you can check in on how other people are doing, but it's still all about just playing your own game, hole by hole, so that's how you show the scores. At the end it's either match play or a giant scramble for birdies based on what everyone else is doing, so you switch to real time scoring.

Honestly, while I'd personally prefer this score style for all rounds, I don't mind the compromise at all. Round 1 is by far where the live scores bothered me the most. Thanks for listening!

I like this scoring table. Please keep it! You may want to show the real-time scoring card as it's getting relevant in the later stages of the tournament. Sets up the situation on say what the lead cards needs to score to stay in it...

Also, I really feel like things have fallen a little into place in this coverage. It feels more natural and you seem to be more at ease as I felt it a little "off" when the season started. Might have been something to do with the changes to the company and this is absolutely understandable. Disc golf just isn't the same without JoMezPro

When I started watching disc golf, I loved all of the players and I was happy for any of them to win. Now all of these self-righteous, sanctimonious, holier-than-thou attitudes turn me off and I can't help but root against these players sniffing their own farts.
I would love to hear distances that are more exact for drives and for how far they have to the pin for every throw, I think that would really highlight some of the pros abilities compared to us mere motrals
Yeah, I think CCDG does this and they also started the thing with the disc speed indicator. I think they also shoot the distance to the basket from each player's lie. I think. Maybe I'm confusing two or three video teams?
@@marscruz I think you are correct, and CCDG premiered a lot of the little extra bits of information that we get from the other teams nowadays. And I have it on good authority (unless I remember wrong :P), that the teams do share ideas with each other and are very close knit groups of media teams. :)

I think you are correct, that they share ideas and inspiration. I've noticed that the new camera operators don't always seem to be as good as Jonathan, Jerry and Mike were when they did all the shooting. I guess it takes time to develop that proficiency. I can't complain though. Free coverage is what is making the sport grow so fast and maybe the DGPT doesn't want to admit that. I can't watch live coverage. I've tried. It's too boring and slow. Too much advertising and useless filler material.
