Best video I have watched in years, I have no idea how to sail but I swear I’m going out and buying a Leopard 50 and sailing the world⚓️🌴😃 just amazing 🙏🏻😎
Well that was not the last shallow passage, we did a lot in Bahamas but endet up where you start before we head to the North! The current makes anchoring challenging and docking also. Great place to be, we will be back in February downsail from Annapolis 👍🏻
Hvala još jednom i sve najbolje?
Not 4 me.....2 many Croatian crooks running the marine police..... They arested. MY boat saying I crossed some imaginary line...demanded 2500 in case to release the yacth......well I got a realy bad temper ...few calls landed me in the office of the a big guy.....he actually showed up with me. ....they start apologize and said it was a mistake....f go pro said it wasn't.....after they released my yacth ....we went to pay a visit to the guy running the scam.....he learned. So the hell with Croatia. View is great ....ppl are ok food great.....officials are scams galore.
I saw you guys at Browns. I distinctly remember that solar arch set up with the long support tubes. We stayed one night at Fisherman's village and the rest at Bimini cove. Both have floating docks. I have a dinghy that looks almost exactly like that one, but I bought it directly from the manufacturer. There are usually like 7-9 bull sharks that hang around there, mostly at Big Game.
in the Bahamas now, there were sailboats waiting for weeks to cross because of the hyper-conservative "no north component" rule. Such a simple-minded generalization. We waved at them all anchored off Miami as we left in December for one of the best crossings we've had. I think some are still waiting 🙂
Depth transducer is usually set to zero at bottom of starboard hull on Leopards. So if you see 1.3 meters for example, that's what you have under the keel. Cheers.
The UKC is depth under the keel. The depth on the chart is to the water line, and then you can add the tide. If you are reading 2.5m UKC then add your draft (1.5m?) = depth of water of 4.0m - the tide = chart datum.
Igor, so glad you re back! Great Content! Question: on the Nautitech 46 you said it was very silent and well build, and now you sound very happy with the Leopard 50 for similar reasons. Which are your Top 3 best Catamarans you’ve sailed so far? Thank you! Always your student!
Hay there from Texas, I have an answer to your Question. You asked in how to sail a catamaran 2, How is it safe to sail the cat SAFELY on only a head sail? The answer is by using a 3/8 inch dinema line as your boom uphill line and center your boom trailer and last add 2 preventer lines from the boom to the ends of the trailer rail.😊
when batteries are advanced enough to store 10x what they do now per KG of battery, and rechargeable on solar panels, few will use sails. sails will just be a backup.
You will use sails to charge batteries via propeller as it’s faster than solar. And to stabilise the boat. But you are correct 👍 not many will actually sail in future. And no anchoring as your electric pods propellers will keep you in position like big boats do.
I have lived in Hawaii, California and Florida. People in Florida just dont experience high surf and seas like CA and Hawaii so their idea of rough seas or high seas might not conform to others. However, the day you went was pretty calm compared to how rough it "can" get in that area. I have seen far worse in that area than what you experienced.
Great video, learning so much ! Love your sense of humor. Just one question, when you look at the depth on the Raymarine, does it show the depth from the waterline or the position of the sensor ?
Thanks 🙏 I took a line and measured distance from ground to keel and than calculated that 1,1m on Raymarine is when we hit ground. You can probably calibrate also.
Good video Igor. I am glad you took locals advice but most importantly used your experience to know that the passage will just be fine. Many NA sailors and boat people are way too conservative and scared to do any real sailing unless they sail under 100% ideal conditions. They like getting stuck in the weeds of their training constraints holding them back from actual experience and they love talking about how much they cant do it and how much you shouldn't either.
I especially love the comment that "could do it with a hobie cat" we know you can...I hope you do it and send these so called sailors some very sailing refreshing advice 😂
Great video, new subscriber, wife and i are really interested in pursuing a sailing life in retirement and I’m leaning toward the Leopards. Can two people sail the 50 or would the 45 be better suited? Thx!
Cjela obala. Susac nema nikoga i preljepo.
Great video, interesting review on the Leopard 50. I don't get the idea of a 3rd sun deck. The other two are already fabulous. It just adds extreme weight and makes the thing top heavy. A performance boat it isn't, after watching Sailing AWEN just vlog daily across the Atlantic on an Outremer 52, and getting 10 to 12 knots in 15 knots wind. I agree with you that the foot control on the electric winches are not great. They can be stepped on accidentally, and get lost in the sheets. Easy to wrap around a foot and create an accident. I look forward to your next videos.
Igor , do you know what luck is. Well you had it on this day. It wasn’t seamanship. Listen to local knowledge. I have made that trip several times and you simply got lucky. It did not have time to build. So stop telling people to go ahead and try it. It is far better to not risk it. You are setting up others to fail. Possibly lose their boat or worse. You are doing sailors a disservice.
After days analysing weather forecasts I decided to sail with having option of return if local knowledge would come true. That’s what I call seamanship. Luck is when you don’t check forecast and you have no option of return.

Really cool tec. to track a rain squall ! You seem to really like the Leopard since you are normally pointing out more things you would change.
Only more sails and flybridge missing.
A very nice video. Looking forward to parts 2-4! However, as for myself, the Croatian Adriatic coast is much more beautiful and exciting.

It's cool that your raymarine turns dark, when the sun goes down.
Have to do it manually and is way to complicated…
Igor, where did you buy those paddleboard seats? Great video by the way. Cheers, Martijn
Thanks 🙏 On boat show but check if you can see on video the name of chairs. I am not on board.
Is this a vacation trip or did you het hired as a skipper?
Thanks Igor!
Welcome 🙏
Hi Igor. Is this boat can go 30% from the wind speed. Am I right? I’m asking because I search optimal cruising cat.
Same as other cruising catamarans. They don’t like sharp upwind.
We visited West End when it was Jack Tarr resort.
Nice video Igor. I think this Leopard could use a bigger sailplan. The speed is terrible at 14knots wind
Thanks 🙏 More sails 👍

Great video, very informative as always! Btw, which headsets are you using?
Thanks 🙏 Headset review is in How to sail Catamaran 4. Holyland.
Thnx! 🙏 I'll check it out.
Igor is that rule when you see over 21 knots winds you automatically drop main sails?
You reef around 21kn.
Great video, new subscriber, wife and i are really interested in pursuing a sailing life in retirement and I’m leaning toward the Leopards. Can two people sail the 50 or would the 45 be better suited? Thx!

Interested to know how the sunken seating area copes with a big wave?
If you get that big wave than you are where you shouldn’t be.
you recommend always wearing PFD while sailing?
It’s like seat belt in car.
Have you ever sailed a Gunboat catamaran? If so, what was it like..
Not yet.
can you use manual navigation in case your instruments fail?
Yes sextant, compass, paper charts. But your backup phones with charts have to fail also. There is more chance that whole GPS system in space fails.
I can't get over that not being an actual flybridge. Just put the wheel up there Leopard!!!!!

you must be on the spectrum if you thought it was valid to compare outremer and leopard
Just did a charter on a leopard 46. The top deck is awesome in the evening to have a drink under the stars. Thought it was also nice while sailing.
Are the couple you are with in this video the owners of the boat?
Can’t talk about who owns it.

They can synchronize bridges but not traffic lights. 😢
Has to be bad traffic in summer when a lot of boats are passing.
Very scared owners, safety lines everywhere and life jackets on all time 😂
That is my demand 😂 I like owners having life jackets as easier to pick them up if they fall in the water.
