It's not the only society where social stigma is attached to the victim. And the justice system reinforces the social stigma. Look at Europe where the perpetrators are allowed to cover their faces while the victims get their identity out in public for all to see.

After what happened to that poor French woman, committed by her own husband, all women, all men, everyone around the world needs to stand up in solidarity. I am so sick and tired of how prevalent violence against women is. It is a global issue impacting women (and to a lesser degree men and children too) across socioeconomic statuses. ETA: it is the one unifying experience that I wish wasn’t so commonplace.

That A-hole has a back up from LDP Party former leader, who was also connected with the Police Dept Chief. The A-hole criminal, wrote some books on Abe (former prime minister). So, the main media is also supportive on the perpetrator side. It's all about the power and money. Who controls using their power and hierarchy.

I saw a documentary about this case before and it was horrific what happened to her and how “accepted” rape was especially for powerful people. I cannot imagine how disgusting, humiliating and dehumanizing it might feel to have been in this situation. Are you referring to Japan's Secret Shame? I've watched it as well, and I, too, found it full of contradictions. There’s a scene where she visits the hotel where the incident allegedly took place, and she says, “It's the light. I remember, you know this... This light... Yah.... It's same.”
So, she was conscious enough that night to remember something as specific as the hotel lighting. Yet she claims she was in an unconscious state. There’s nothing objective to back this up. This is just one example, but the entire narrative seems to follow this pattern. With no evidence to go on, we’re left to rely solely on her account, but even her own statements are vague and inconsistent.
And still, are you all going to keep believing her?

I watched this film in the US theater and learned at the end of Q&A session with Shiori Ito as a guest film director, that the film hasn't released in Japan. What a shame. That tells a lot about Japan, the tradition, its culture goes side by side with Sexism.
Women's voices are erased, and women are punished when they raise their voice by men who are in power.
Gender Equity is so behind because men want to maintain this tradition, not get punished for committing sexual violence against women and children but rather, men want women to tolerate, even blamed for creating the reasons for men to commit the sexual crimes. It's ridiculously sexist country. There is no JUSTICE in Japan at many levels.

In Japan, there is a deeply rooted discriminatory mindset that blames those who report sexual abuse. When someone speaks out, they often hear comments like "the victim is also responsible," "isn't this false reporting?" or "it's an excessive claim," with many of these opinions coming from men, reflecting misogyny.
Even today, many sexual assault cases are ongoing in Japan, but the victims are required to gather evidence and prove their case. In most instances, victims have no choice but to suffer in silence. For minors, gathering evidence or testifying becomes extremely difficult, making it almost impossible to prove their case.
The judicial system is still behind, and unfortunately, it often favors the perpetrators. However, it is also true that, thanks to her courageous actions, more victims are finding the strength to speak out. I am deeply grateful to her for sparking this change.

Ito claimed that the medical record showed the time of intercourse that she did not report, but in the Civil Superior Court, the judge found that the medical record showed the time that Ito had reported. In other words, the judge found that Ito had lied throughout the trial. Nevertheless, the judge created a false story that Ito was confused and reported the time of intercourse to Dr. Takao so that Ito could win the trial, making the time of intercourse listed in the medical record untrue. In doing so, the trial judge ruled that Mr. Yamaguchi had intercourse without consent. (This is a "black box diaries" to keep a lid on inconvenient facts.) To explain more clearly, Shiori Ito claimed that Mr. Yamaguchi forced her to have sexual intercourse with him without her consent after 5:00 a.m., and thus wanted to deny the time between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. recorded in her medical record. On the other hand, Mr. Yamaguchi claimed at trial that he had sexual intercourse between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. at the invitation of Ms. Ito. Why do you think Shiori Ito reported the time of sexual intercourse to Dr. Takao at the clinic where she received the emergency contraceptive prescription as 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. on the day of the incident? The answer is simple: she reported the actual time of sexual intercourse because at that time she had no desire to fabricate sexual damage because she thought she could join TBS with Mr. Yamaguchi's connections.
