  • Nancy LaMott was a cabaret singer and recording artist whose remarkable career was cut short when she died of uterine cancer in 1995. After graduating from high school in Midland, Michigan, Nancy moved to San Francisco in 1974 to begin her career. She moved to New York in 1979 and her career flourished there, particularly in the nightclubs the city's famed theater district. Her death was reported in the Arts section of the New York Times and her funeral at New York's St. Paul the Apostle Church was attended by over 1,500.

After many years I returned to listen to this wonderful version by Nancy. But it still hurts.

Praise God almighty; she lives! Her spirit lives through these recordings. And she she can never die because in her case it's not a cliche: these interpretations are timeless.

Nancy Lamont has I think the most attractive voice in all of music and as such I have had a major crush on her for 30 years.

Every time I saw Nancy perform she was better then the time before. Every song she sang I swore I loved it better then the one before. It never occurred to me she wouldn't always be around for that next time that next song. Nancy thanks for the memories.

Oh, what an incredible singer she was! I literally cried when I heard this; she just reached my soul. She died way too young.

Most great singers have built in an ability to harmonize within the same box of lung and vocals. Listen for it. then there's the fact she pours her heart out for you.

What a delight, what a pleasure, and, what a sad, sad, loss!...when someone sings so beautiful as Nancy LaMott and passes, it makes me want to cry!...

It so much more than her bell tone voice. It's her superb intonation, and if that is not enough to knock you over, it's the sigh in her vibrato that makes Nancy LaMott so glorious.

There are two recordings that I consider her best work....days of wine and roses/whistling in the dark and autumn leaves/when October goes.
Give them a listen...she is absolutely perfect.

I totally agree with you on those two recordings. My third favoroite would be All Those Christmas Cliches, the first song I ever heard her sing, and I became an instant fan!

Just stumbled onto a recording of this song I had from a radio broadcast that I was listening to when this song came up and can't believe I've never heard of her before. This is the reason I play and instrument to try to capture what she seems to capture effortlessly. What a angelic voice...right up there with Ella.

It may seem like a facile reaction to the great loss of this superb pianist & this gifted singer, but I think I'd rather have a short time on earth & leave behind a priceless gift of spectacular talent which can deeply touch hearts & help to heal souls for all time, rather than a long life of pleasant mediocrity. These 2 exceptional performers transcended the masses & are cherished & continue to live on in the countless hearts of folks whom they never even met. A rather superb legacy, I'd say!

I discovered Nancy LaMott only a few months ago, and fell in love with her singing immediately. It was however very painful to discover the tragic events in her life. I am interested to know a few details of artists I discover - but am so afraid to discover these so sad events. I love this song - but haven't heard a more sincere rendition.

I believe this is the best rendition of this song ever. She doesn't just sell the song, she seems to feel completely every word and phrase she sings. She left us all too soon.

  • @edwardjames50

Uterine cancer? At the time of her tragically untimely death, we were told the cause was Krohn's disease. Where's the uterine cancer story coming from?

    • @MagicGary1960
      @MagicGary1960 9 ปีที่แล้ว

She had Krohn's disease at age 17 and she was later diagnosed with Uterine Cancer in March 1995 and then lived just a few more months passing on December 13th 1995. She had sung Moon River on the Charles Grodin Show December 4th 1995 just 9 days before her untimely death.

She had Crohn's Disease, from a fairly young age. It's miserable, painful disease, but she didn't let it affect her singing, which is so beautiful. It's so sad that someone so lovely had to suffer like that. She got married an hour before she died, and then she left us, happy at least, with that feeling of belonging in her soul. Sleep warm, Nancy, we love you and miss you.
