      When a king or a lord needs to punish someone and they have a castle, they make dungeons. This has evolved into what it is now. Dwarven mines. Most of those dungeons have been created to hide or guard something. Some are natural, many could be magically made. But all in all. A dungeon is used for prisoners and punishment.

    I'd love to hear more about the Metallic dragons. How'd they go from creatures of pure destruction and chaos, seemingly no different from the evil Chromatic dragons to the children of Bahamut, god of the good and powerful Metallic dragons? Or at least the well-meaning and powerful metallic dragons. From the mischievous copper I think it was to the just gold, what happened to make them rise above baser chaotic instincts? Or were these instincts simply gone when they became well, metallic dragons?
    Also. DRAGONBORN!!! Tell us all about them.

      If you read here forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Ao
      Asgorath is said to be a female and Ao was the one who created the twin worlds.
      Extract from the website:
      During the Days of Thunder when the Batrachi were losing their war against the Titans, they performed a powerful summoning ritual and released several primordials from their ancient prisons. The gods quickly moved against their ancient foes, and those battles caused the worldwide catastrophes that destroyed the batrachi civilization. A primordial known as "Asgorath the World-Shaper", determined to destroy the world if she couldn't control it, threw an ice moon at the planet, creating the Sea of Fallen Stars. This event was known as the Tearfall.
      Before the world was completely destroyed, Lord Ao intervened and sundered the original world of Abeir-Toril into two twin worlds, Abeir and Toril, giving the former to the primordials and the latter (the original world) to the gods, ending the conflict.

    4E screwed up Forgotten Realms creation myths... that whole primordial thing is just silly. The Selune/Shar things was WAY cooler and more unique. What they have now is just a cheap knock-off of the Greek God/Titan war.

      @@MortalReaver I like the 4e version better BUT I mix them. I place Ao as the Creatoe but not of all and it fits with him being something akin to a Primordial since he's never needed prayer or worship. There is the Being od Lighr so my guess is that all realms have their own Overgod. The titan war and giant vs dragon war (Greek AND Viking) make it more complete to me than angry sisters who... Became less and less important throughout.

    Hmm this does help clarify a couple of things. As you said, most of this info is wrapped in myths, but I came here hoping to get a few answers like:
    What are his titles (like Bahamut is known as the Platinum Dragon)?
    What kind of diety is he (Like what plane does he live on)?
    And why would he face off against a god such as the Raven Queen for one of his own?
    With this I think I can solidify my Shadowfell dragonborn's background quite nicely

I didn't have any idea about this creation myth, and it's super interesting to compare this myth to those of the Dragonborn and the Sarrukh records and myths about "the changing of the stars"; There is also the Dawn War and the first Sundering myths. I wonder what role Io and later Bahamut and Tiamat play in all of this, taking into account that they're gods, not Primordials. Once again, extremely interesting video, Rhexx, please keep it up.

    This isn't second edition, is it? o.o;
    eh, whatever, I'd suggest doing an episode (or series) on Netheril! Kids LOVE stories of lost ancient over-powered magical empires! You could cover the ambitions of Karsus, or cover the tragedy of Lady Polaris? While in Netheril, the origins of the lightning bolt, magic missile, and other iconic spells could be covered? Even Ioun Stones are made in Netheril. ^_^
    edit: It's also the reason Humans have to use "Lowly Primitive Elven Magic" (Elves would argue that their magic is a more elegant coaxing of effect, versus the rough power grab of human magic) instead of drawing magical energy straight from the weave to access level 12 spells.

    • @draxthemsklonst
      @draxthemsklonst 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not retconned. It's a retelling of the same story (the Tearfall), from another perspective.
      Bahamut & Tiamat are aspects of Asgorath/Io. Asgorath is an aspect if the world serpent. The World Serpent is an amalgamation of many beings. Even Jazirian and Asmodeus owe their existence to the world serpent.

  • @rowantatun5473
    @rowantatun5473 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You forgot to talk about how Asgorath died to the primordial of chaos while protecting the world. If you don't know the story well here's what comes of it. Being split in two by the axe of the primordial didn't kill him per say but instead split him into two different personalities. A five headed chromatic dragon that represented his evil side, and a single pure metallic dragon that represented his good, these two became known as Tiamat and Bahamut. Both of them for a moment worked together as one to destroy the chaos primordial ending it's carnage for good. But from that point on the two turned on each other and have never seen eye to eye since. The dragons (race) of course split into two different ideologies and factions based on whichever aspect of Asgorath they most represented. It's assumed that the leftovers of the separation of Asgorath became Null (also known as chronepsis/falazure) though that part is more just what people assume rather than actual written in the books lore.

    You should do Purple dragons. Have both in one video. Both the Red + Blue = Purple version, and the underdark Deep version.

    Wait . . . .
    The Sarruks evolved into the yuan ti?
    I thought they made them along with the naga and later evolved into lizardfolk.
    You covered this in the video of the naga, and my own look through the lore points to this as well for the forgotten realms.
    So which is it?

      Sort of both or neither the lore contradicts itself from time to time due to the nature of dnd

      They most likely died out, except for the ones who are now liches, or they have long departed into other realms.
      This is how DnD handles most old powerful races, the Sarrukh would still rule the entire planet with their knowledge of magic if they hadn't found a way to destroy themselves. Everything the elves built and know about magic came from just trying to decipher what the Sarrukh knew about magic and their myth says they were taught directly by the World Serpent.
      The Yaun-ti are most likely a servant race, that has tried to step into the Sarrukh's shoes after they all disappeared, otherwise the Yaun-ti would be way more powerful, but if they were a servant race, the Sarrukh wouldn't elevate them to be their equals in knowledge.

    Azaroth: Yeah I just kind of threw your unborn bodies into an atmosphere of a planet and hope for the best. One could say I was planning on the fly and it was up to you to stick the landing.

    I'm lost at how this ties in to Io and the creation of Tiamat and Bahamut 😱
    This seems to contradict a lot of what I read, about Io and his war with the giants and how he created the dragons.
    I know there are multiple "origin stories" because that's how religion and science work and we can't truly know. But if someone can tell me how these either fit together, or don't. Please do

      I'd like to know this as well.. also.. I'd like to know those stories you mentioned lol
      I'm just getting into all this lore.. I've never even played D&D. I've just fallen down a deep rabbit hole of watching/reading about all the ancient lore and different versions of it that I can.
      It's giving me SO MANY awesome ideas for building my own worlds for my own video games lol
