    In an interview Felip said, it was one of his least favorite song that he wrote didn't have any plans on releasing it, but he chose to perform it for his solo stage in one of their concerts just to give people something new, but after he performed it, the fans begged for it to be released, so as a 'thank u' to the fans, not only did he release the track, he also filmed a music video for it.

    Unlike the other four members, Ken/Felip is from Mindanao and speaks another LANGUAGE - Visaya. He wasn’t fluent in Tagalog when they were starting. He is actually more comfortable speaking in English than Tagalog. It is one of the reasons why he is silent during some of their interviews. But for him to release a pure Visayan track even when the majority of SB19’s audience speaks Tagalog was risky. But that’s how Ken is - he is a risk-taker. And he recognized the fact that music has no language. As a Visayan, I am so damn proud of this boy. ❤

    Yes, KEN is certainly unique and the RNB influence is AMAZING on this SONG 🎧🎼🎵🤍🔝💫 . I’ve seen him in so many interviews where he is noticeably quiet so yes, I figured that Tagalog is not his first language. He said, “he was uncomfortable with his low vocals, however PABLO encouraged his low tone and was very supportive”. I believe PABLO is not only an EXCEPTIONAL LEADER but a PRODIGY. SB19 members are unbelievably TALENTED and since they’re NOW able to be Ppop musically driven, I can see them be more INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS. Great 👍🏽 Choice…Thanks for sharing your supportive and positive comments. I ABSOLUTELY APPRECIATE YOUR REACTION.

    What’s amazing about our boys is that they really worked hard to establish their identity. They’ve done a lot of ‘compromise’ for their music before, but now that they have the freedom to express themselves, it is so refreshing to see how they make use not only of their experience but the variety of their musical influences as well. You can never really know what to expect from them.
    And Felip, that man works in silence. 🐣

    There wasn't a live show when the group were put together. There was just an audition, and when they were selected they trained for years, super intense that some just dropped out. Their company was a korean company who has a local branch in the Philippines. The company said that they saw so much potential in Filipinos. They were not supposed to be an idol group, they were just supposed to be entertainers during events since their company was an events organizer. But the company saw so much potential in them that they trained them the same way as how korean idols train.

    From my understanding most of the music and melody of SB19's first EP Get in the Zone came from their company ShowBT. Their 2nd EP Pagsibol (2021) however is self-produced. They did collaborated with other Filipino producers (both residing locally and abroad) but Pablo was always hands-on in the production.
    So if you will compare the 2 albums, you will notice the Korean influence in their 1st ep, but the 2nd ep was more Filipino. Pagsibol EP was created during pandemic and most of their Korean staff/managers went back to Korea thus SB19 had more artistic freedom in the 2nd ep. Also I think the western sound in their music is not a conscious effort to break through the western industry. Its just that the PH is very much influenced by the western culture, including the music we listen to.

    • @lepunksmoothie
      @lepunksmoothie ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Just a minor correction: Get in the Zone is a full album, not an EP; Pagsibol is an EP. But everything else is spot on!😊

      @Shi_630 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh..this is so interesting..yeah i don't think the western influence in sb19's music is a conscious effort.. they're not targeting the American audience.. it's just that we're really heavily influenced by western music here in the ph.. that's why it naturally comes out. That being said, i recall some anay saying they're kpop copycats..here in this channel we see actual musicians and producers noticing the western influence on sb19's (not just felip's) songs.😊

    I was just commenting on your last reaction video that I was surprised you haven't reacted on Felip's "Palayo". I'm a 90s kid like you guys, so I'm a big R&B fan, too. Just recently discovered SB19, but it was in this MV that Felip/Ken lured me into his world, and I am trapped.. willingly lol! I don't understand a thing he's singing 'coz it's in Bisaya and I only understand Tagalog. I have cousins who speak it, and I now I'm freakin' jealous. The translations won't ever give it justice.
    After Palayo and Bulan, his "sisiws" (chicks and he's our ChicKEN) are now waiting for his next MV to drop. It's an unreleased rap song called Stray Dogs. He performed it live on Popstival Festival with his swag on, depths-of-the-earth low voice, black strap around his waist peeking out of his Balenciaga shirt. It's an overload of emotions. And they're all going crazy right now coz he just shaved off his beautiful red locks and dyed his hair blond and black for the MV shoot, but that's just the speculation. It's chaos on TikTok, TH-cam and the Twitterverse because of this man. Lord help us!

    The Philippines is divided into 3 main groups of Island namely, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. People living in Luzon speak tagalog. Visayas and Mindanao speak Bisaya. Apart from English, Tagalog and Bisaya are the two main languages of the Philippines ( the country has many languages ).. but our national language is based in Tagalog which means that all people in the country know how to speak tagalog..

I love how you are diving to SB19's discography 😍 This song Palayo wasn't planned to be released but A'TIN's response to this song after Ken (Felip) performed this on their online concert (2021) prompt him to release a music video. I'm so glad he continued on to release Bulan and finally started to build his solo career coz this man is so talented. All of the SB19 members do have the talent to stand on their own and have a successful career. But when they are together they exude this undeniable charisma which makes me amazed! I don't remember knowing boybands before like SB19. Usually I can only pinpoint one or two members whom I think can have a possible solo career but not all members. They're just insane! The amount of talent here is mind blowing for me.

    No, they were not formed from a reality show. A Korean entertainment startup company ShowBT did an audition to form SB19. SB stands for SoundBreak and 19 is the sum of South Korea and Philippines country codes. SB19 members trained for 3-4 years before debuting. They practiced the Go Up dance routine 1000x before releasing the dance practice video, which is what made them go viral.

    Yes there were trained to be entertainers for events...the original group was actually 7 members (excluding Justin & Ken)...then the company took a chance and released them as a boygroup...but they didn't even officially debut...the guys kept practicing..then the members started to leave some people get added on...so on and so forth...until finally Justin & Ken came into the group and they were officially released as SB19.
    They would perform at parties...events...before..they even told a story where they would serve the food on these said events and when the music comes on you remove your apron and gloves and start singing on stage...these guys been through a lot i'm telling you...but they genuinely love music...that's why Pablo i feel is such a strong driving force in the direction of the music as a group...then Pablo and Ken/Felip fully express themselves in their solos...even Pablo himself says that the music he makes for the group is not the music he would make if it were for himself...
    Being called a kpop copycat has been thrown at their face many times already but these guys know how to answer them well...here's some of the script in some of the interviews when asked about these..
    Pablo said music is universal...pop is pop...kpop is also influence by japanese pop and american pop...he also said something like about a 'sense of universality'...
    Stell said he loves kpop growing up...and kpop inspired him to take up dancing and singing...and that's why they are starting PPOP...because he wants PPOP to do for the Filipino youth what Kpop has done for him...
    there's something about the philippines where people hate on kpop inspired and these very same people worship western artists...don't know why this is...that's why it's so hard to penetrate the mainstream in philppines...
    it's really hard to explain...they are not the most massive mainstream artist in the Philippines honestly...but their fandom loves them so much that that the small voice of the fandom gets magnified ten fold that's why their concerts are always sold out...and we are so noisy every wehre in social media

    I agree that SB19 is largely influenced by Western music. Before kpop was known, we Filipinos are great fans of English songs because I think it's part of our culture that we embrace the use of the English language. In school programs, everyone sings English or Filipino. And English as our second language, we don't only sing because of the melody, we always try to understand what the song is all about especially since our elders are traditional and in some Western songs there are obscene words used in the lyrics. I'm a huge fan of Miley Cyrus and the High School musical.

    If you want to know how and why SB19 produced their kind of music- breaking international barriers- just ask these 5 boys!!! It's entirely unique and different from the American/ Western style, not even Kpop!!!

    • @hinnyu7748
      @hinnyu7748 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      But even Pablo stated that “Pop” is universal though? If we think about it it is really weird to put “pop" and "unique” together in a sentence. And the whole reason why pop is always breaking international barriers is because “popular” music or “pop” is supposed to sound the same in a good way that people get easily be into it wherever you are from.
      The only thing that makes every pop every country is because it will have its natural flair based on their respective culture. JPop, KPop, APop, PPop are all in the same genre, pop, like other genres have their own signature sound but at the same time different depends where they came from.
      For example, we are the most westernized country in Asia so it makes sense that our music were a lot more like western music than KPop. We still celebrate our ethnic culture, makes sense that we still add ethnic elements on whatever performative acts we do.
      So no, PPop is not entirely unique and different from other styles of Pop. But PPop IS PPop. If the music is that “unique” then we can't label them Pop or any other genre.

      @@Ver0_Cat yes its a beautiful language you can learn it easily thanks. For the appreciation of bisaya dialect. And I love how Felip is very proud that he is a Bisdak boy or Batang Bisaya. Unlike other guys that they dont want to show this side cause for them Baduy or there is discrimanation but most Bisdak are talented and smart in their own way.

      @@jesserygenematuranguiralphilip True, that goes out to all pinoys who speak a second Filipino language. Now, we're all flexing our bilingual skills lol! My friends who speak it are soo cool grabe. When they talk, I always thought it was so malambing, sometimes poetic.

    Thanks so much for the RV! Felip is a gem all on his own. I’m waiting for his third single release which I hope will come soon.
    Felip has many musical influences ranging from gospel to rap, hip-hop, anime OST (actually SB19 all listen to this, they’re big anime fans), jpop and kpop with OPM stringing them all together. His self-produced work will show the influences but it’s put together in a way that’s all him.

    While Palayo is a self-produced track, which Felip co-produced with Pablo's brother, Josue, 5 out the 6 songs in SB19's Pagsibol EP (What?, MAPA, Bazinga, Mana, SLMT) were co-produced by Pablo and Fil-Canadian producer Simon Servida. Servida did post some BTS of how he and Pablo produced the tracks in the EP - worth checking out as he is very entertaining!😆

    I enjoyed the reaction. Glad you guys liked it. Just to share, Ppop, OPM, and in particular SB19's music doesn't cater to the west. Modern day music from the Philippines is in my opinion a culmination of our colonial history & mixing from neighboring countries. It's a fusion with heavy influences from 3 major colonizers mainly Spain, US & Japan. So our music doesn't intend to "cater to the west", it just naturally evolved sounding similar to it, American pop music/culture being the most influential. Also, pop is not the most popular genre. 90s & early 2000s were all about R&B, Hiphop, Alternative & Pop/Rock. Ballads are a staple bec let's just say it's in most if not all Filipino artists repertoire. Yes, even rock/metal bands would have a ballad hidden somewhere just in case. Just my 2 cents. Thanks

    So appreciative of the fact that you take time to research more about who you react to other than just based on the video per se and I say this not only with SB19. And your knowledge about music does show and do not worry about being vocal with critical observation musically, it is but proper you will critic and point out what is needed to be improved, the boys watch reactions and they take whatever they can learn. Most Atin are mature enough to understand that constructive criticism is helpful.

    Thanks so much for once again featuring SB19.
    Yes, the group had 3 - 4 years training under a Korean company, but even years before that some SB19 Members were already competing in KPop dance international competitions, in particular Stell, Josh and ken. They weren't trained as singers, although I think Ken and Stell have good vocal exposures in their respective church choirs, and Pablo's passion is really on music, ie, singing and composing. Justin had also been performing with local groups doing Kpop dances, and his educational background is on media arts. As such, Justine has been responsible for directing a number of their MVs, including WHAT, MAPA and the animé video on the song Tilaluha. Although they took advantage of the KPop popularity to launch their careers, as soon as they became known it was clear that their overriding objective was to showcase Philippine music, which as you may probably notice is heavily influenced by Western style, and in recent years certainly by the KPop sound as well.
    FIlipinos adore the music of the 80's and 90's, the big belters, and most specially RnBs. You should check out Filipino singers who are specialists of RnBs if you like that style. I think I could claim that in present times they are among the best RnB singers. Top Filipino RnB artists include Daryl Ong, Bugoy Drillon, Michael Panganiban, Jay R, Jason Dy, Jaya, Kyla and Katrina Velarde. I would very much recommend their wonderful renditions of songs by Boyz II men, Bryan McKnight, Mariah Carey, and the like. SB19, specially Ken, is very much influenced by RnB style of music.

    SB19 has a lot of western influences in their music because the music (especially pop music) is also greatly influenced by the west. Especially since the general population has a good grasp of english, western songs also make it really big here. Before kpop groups were really popular, the western groups (boybands) were, and still are, really popular. Filipinos also grew up listening to the backstreet boys, westlife, nsync, boys ii men etc so sb19's sound reflects the coming together of those influences (also they've covered an nsync medley citing them as one of their major idols/influences).

    I've been thinking about Ken's vocal range too. I agree with you, Lucas, at least 3 octaves. But I think he can still stretch it.
    Please watch Felip's MYXclusive interview. (It has English subs) He talked about Palayo and Bulan extensively. You'll get a better glimpse of his personality. He's really an introvert, so interviews like this are very hard to come by. He usually stays quiet during SB19 interviews.
