Im rebuilding a 1990 5.0 f150 and yet 9/10 your videos still help me. I love the way you explain the procedures first, then you follow up by actually showing us what we need to do. 10/10 good job homie g.
I bought a Ford scanner for my truck and it kept giving me 111 saying it’s good even though my truck had a issue. This paper clip revealed 3 codes. Don’t waste your money on the scanner that will only show a code if you’re CEL is on. Save yourself the money and use the paper clip. I also want to thank you because I’ve had issues with my truck for 2 years now that no one has found till I did this.
Mate you are a legend. Im fixing up a 1990 f150 5.8 and your videos helped me out heaps. So from all the way over here in Melbourne Australia....Thanks mate!
Just acquired an 89 Ford F250 with the 351W. Already put a TFI module in and resealed intake manifold. Planning to do it all.. PCV, EGR, O2's, injectors, spark plugs/ wires + cap/ rotor and hope for the best.
Thanks Brian for the video. I actually only came in here to watch how to read the codes. I have a 92 F-350 diesel but you kept it entertaining for learning so I watched all of it... Thanks again
I changed all those on mine with out doing the code checked! Was running great about a week and started messing up miss firing in the mornings to get the oil hot!
Omg, this is awesome! I’ve got to try this on my 1993 5.0 V-8! I think he’s got a bad O2 sensor, but I’m definitely going to try this out to make sure. Thank you so much for posting this video!!!
Knock sensor controls ignition timing, it is a vibration sensor (pezio electric crystal), make sure you torque the knock sensor down to the factory specs or it will NOT work.
This channel is God sent. I have a ‘90 F150 347 stroker. Recently truck lost compression, diagnostics indicate #8 lower cylinder is bad. So the q is rebuild or install another engine; but all the comments are commendable for troubleshooting efforts. Any suggestions for the next engine?
If that was my truck I would have tried clearing the pcm before replacing the knock sensor you can do that by disconnecting the battery cables and touching the positive cable to the negative cable for together or using a jumper wire a couple of minutes then drive it around a little so the pcm can relearn all the values just go easy on acceleration and braking at first for a couple of stops and goes and you should be all set
If you can see this, I'm not hip on this computer stuff, but I'm trying it cuz I'm dead in the water with out a clue. My 92 I6 5spd 2wd doesn't like to start. If I can pump the gas pedal and cycle the ignition switch just right,it will fire. But,it bucks and kicks something fierce. Now,it hardly starts, and if it does,it acts as though there aren't 6 cyl. It won't stay running, even when I try feathering the gas pedal. I'm truly at a loss here.
Why not just use the OBD1 sensor from Ford that plugs right into that. I got mine for like 15 bucks. It does the same thing that the clip does but you don't got to sit there and count flashes or turn the wheel or hit the brake or any of that stuff.
I'm changing from automatic transmission to manual on my 1992 ford f150 but since I did whenever I think the throttle gets too high do you what could be the problem?
May I ask where is the next video ? Lol I have a 1992 5.0 two wheel drive and got the trans rebuild and it idle since before but now it’s doing it more since it’s cold in Chicago now so you thing theses gotta be the problem? Thank you .
I have a 92 f150, it used to be my dads and he had his mechanic disconnect the check engine light so it would stop annoying him. Do you know how to reconnect it? Is there a plug or do you just unplug the bulb? I really need to read my codes like you did
What would happen if I did not let my truck get to temperature first. It was acting a little weird when I went to start it. I did forget this step. Also once I got it started Could it be possible that my codes are wrong Just because I didn’t let it warm up
I just bought a 94 with the inline six. 3 things I noticed while checking it out before I bought it: there is a 2-wire loose connector that comes out of the harness for fuel injectors (have not tested for voltage) , there is another 2-wire loose connector near the intake around the egr vacuum solenoid (this one has battery voltage with key on), and my oxygen sensor is unplugged with no connection point in site under the engine. The thing is I figured any one of these three things would cause the check engine light to come on but it isn't. I plan on still checking for codes but it is currently pouring rain. You have any idea what where the connection points are for these three things? I looked it over and over and all parts have their connections hooked up.... Only other thing is they could be some connections that should be capped off and the end came off.... Truck runs fine too. I figured with no o2 sensor it would run in limp mode. What are your thoughts?
Yea but on my truck you have to jump the battery off after it runs for 3 minutes its starts to make a chimney noise than goes dead than the battery need s to to be jumped again
I think you may have just solved my problems.. also my Ignition Control Module keeps burning up. Any suggestions or how to fix that or do you know any reasons for that happening? I have a 90’ F150 with the 4.9 as well
Thanks I'm working on my 1988 F-150 with a straight 6 a lot of things are bypassed on it and eliminated and it's been bored 40 over think I need to replace a couple of same things you did there. thanks again 0️⃣1️⃣🏁😎
This is some serious Macgyver stuff. The only this missing was the presence of a Swiss Army knife. Nice work and thank you for the very detailed and to the point videos. Excellent work.
Well my check engine light isn’t functioning for whatever reason. I think my oxygen sensor is bad, my fuel economy is getting really bad. Ive done all your tune up items. Truck runs good and doesn’t seem to have any other issues except for the fuel consumption. I have checked for leaks. I crawled under the truck and it sounded like the cat had unburnt fuel in it.
Acebatsu - only place I could find it was eBay. They are $12 shipped. That's the good news. Bad news is that it came from china and took almost a month to get here. It was such an easy install I didn't post it. It literally just unscrews from the block, screw new one on. Now the error code is gone! 👍 Take care man!
Man I’ve replaced the idle position sensor, air intake valve, MAP, canister purge solenoid, throttle body gasket, & cleaned throttle body. Still won’t stay running under a load. It will idle, but roughly. I’ll try this but any advice is greatly appreciated.
Get a Actron CP 9680 code tester. It checks live, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, oxygen sensor tests, ABS, SRS, and MORE! It comes in a black pouch. It uses 4 AAA batteries, not included. It is updatable using a USB cable from EBAY. The CP9690 has OBDI cables for Ford, G.M., Chrysler, and Toyota. It's the same tester as the CP9680. It is well-lit. It retains the memory of tests for later review. It shows the definition of codes. Code-connect shows the solutions to codes. Where the screen shows the code-connect icon is where it looks up code-connect.
A Actron CP9690 code tester works on OBDI and OBDII . It checks live, record, graphing, emissions readiness test, ABS, SRS, oxygen sensor test, and MORE! It has Code- connect to diagnose codes. A Snap on scanner and cartridges checks OBDI and OBDII codes. EBAY has them.
Have it idol in park. Watch the a/c compressor pulley on the fan belt path. If it seizes up and stops when engaged the compressor is bad. I think if I remember right, it’s on the right hand side, half way down the engine. There are a couple other options if that’s not it. Thanks. Take care.
@@BrianEaly the compressor still turns when the truck is off by hand, it doesnt seemed locked. as soon as i flip the AC switch on the engine stalls while driving and at idle. it was still blowing cold air a couple days ago. i relpaced my fuel filter, air filter, throttle cleaned, alternator about a year old, doesnt really hesitate... wht other options do you suggest??
Hbk Jgreezy possibly the compressor is locked up. The pulley on the outside will turn freely, as soon as you turn on AC the electric clutch engages and kills the engine.
Anybody ever loose spark driving? Batt. Light and check engine came on, good coil/dist. ECU keeps frying and my eec and fuel relays kick on and off with no ECU installed or even the key in. Lost..
I tried thus on my 95 f150. Light just stays on, fuel pump runs constantly. I did get it to start on carb cleaner, runs rough black smoke. Anyone know what's wrong?.
lol you completely to perform the KOEO test( key on engine off) which is to be done b4 the koeo test. But props for the video cuz shady Haynes manual shows the set up if you use a voltmeter. Then they say " you can also use the check engine light to test too" . But DON'T EVEN SHOW YOU HOW TO CONNECT THE PAPER CLIP FOR THAY WAY WHICH IS TOTALLY DIFF THAN IF DOING THE METER WAY!!!!!
You should probably put. Your stock air intake back on. Because you did all that without a tune and your sucking hot air from the engine bay into your intake. Yeah it looks cool and sounds cool but they made stock air in takes the right way and length on purpose at the factory. Everyone wants to get a cold air but yall aint doing it right. Your not in a race car. You have to use a tune. And with that old vehicle you probably cant tune. From my experience having stock air intake will make it idol the correct way

@Jeremy Bowers I haven't done it yet with the clip.... I was just going to order a OB1 reader..
Jeremy Bowers is my 1993 f250 3 digit codes?
what a neat garage and i’m tryna get my hands on a 94 f150 5 speed. unfortunately here in NY they’re very rotted
Man you are ok. Thanks for your method demo in. The rain
Your videos are full of righteous info and put together super easy and your intro music rocks.

Alex d what's the factory specs?
keep em comin brother, just started rebuilding a 1994 v6 f150
94 v6 f150s dont exist. Inline 6s do. Good engine though
Good looking out bro!
Thx

These videos on the Ford are quite helpful. Thank you
Wow I didn't know you could check codes on older trucks like this, pretty cool. Awesome video man👍
Thanks dude!!! That's the best info I've seen on the TH-cam channel, so I subscribed immediately 👍

¡¡GRACIAS BRIAN EALY!!
What did you use to me your air intake
1st visit , thanks for education and lil entertainment ✌️
Did you make another video on this, I cannot find it on your page
I really liked your video. I have a 90 e-150 with the 4.9 and you helped me solve a couple problems.
William Thomas - thanks man... glad it helped... Take care brother!
Whats the grey plug?

Were do i find the code numbrs after i retrieve them
You can Google OBD 1 Ford Codes.
Ok so I’m putting a Flag as my headliner🥳🇺🇸
Is 172 always o2 senor
Thank you for the video man. Learned a lot from it. I have a 91 f150 4.9
Did the knocks sensor fix it
if ur still doing youtube can u plz do video on replacing 1/2 shaft on 98 f250. thank you
I know this is old but does this work on a 1994 f150
That intermittent rattley grind though, doesn't sound like a heatshield, more like a flywheel or uber bad pulley or something
Do you think there is any difference between Bosch O2 sensor and Motorcraft one on RockAuto (besides price)? Thanks
I am having same issues but no check engine light and therefore no codes
What would happen if I did not let my truck get to temperature first. It was acting a little weird when I went to start it. I did forget this step. Also once I got it started Could it be possible that my codes are wrong Just because I didn’t let it warm up
Holy shit you are awesome you make this shit look so easy, i just dont have a lot of patience, PTSD gets me going sometimes
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE , JIM ODELL, YOU ARE A TRUE AMERICAN WARRIOR,GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS
how do you know if you're that idle control is working?
My '97 F350 is OBD1, so it's not necessarily all trucks before 1996.
Obd2 96 and up, got 2 95 Ford's both are obd1
I need help my 95 ruff idle i replaced everything tune up wise
I have a 87 f150 xlt lariat with a 5.0 that has idling issues also. Currently working on it
What was your issue?
When Idling and when i come to stops it wants to bog out. I feel it may be the maf sensor
Great trucks love my 1990 f150

Yea but on my truck you have to jump the battery off after it runs for 3 minutes its starts to make a chimney noise than goes dead than the battery need s to to be jumped again
I got a 93 4.9 where you get your intake kit
What if you have no codes and your truck won’t idle
great video!! i tried mine also but my check engine light never came on at all!! nor does it ever!!
I think you may have just solved my problems.. also my Ignition Control Module keeps burning up. Any suggestions or how to fix that or do you know any reasons for that happening? I have a 90’ F150 with the 4.9 as well

What if you dont have a check engine light. I have an 86 f150
There could still be codes stored. I had 2 different codes and the check engine light was never on.
I tried this on my 1987 f150 bricknose and nope it did not work i have no check engines lights on in my dash thanks...
