God will bless you my son. You do what no other would do. Look after the customer despite the cost to you personally but you sleep well at night and that is what makes you YOU!!! You know I have always hated the time you spent spent working on something and pay didn't match the time spent on it. Stay safe and hang tuff cause two wrongs ain"t never made a right and that sucks for you.😮
BMWs were the reason I stumbled across your channel. My first GSA was back in 2018 and have loved them ever since. Just bough a 2024 1250, wanted the last 1250 with all the bells and whistle. Gonna miss the BMW content.
Wow, interesting news. It’s amazing how a large portion of motorcycle sales worldwide is in a major nose dive. The small to midsize bikes are doing good but the premium large bikes are hurting. It’s like we all want to get back to the basics which is cool.
You're spot on, I'm really seeing that too. Midsize low tech bikes have my heart as well, so the future is looking bright in that area... 👌 Thanks Badger!! 👍
Hi Shawn, BMW was the reason I came to your channel when researching the gearbox recall on my K1600. It was a great job you did on explaining the reasons and showing the process involved. Yes the 16 can be very expensive to run (800 pounds for the 36k service) and the extended warranty recently paid for the reverse solenoid failure. I'm thinking its time for something different / lighter in the garage, maybe R1250RS is on the horizon. Thanks for the entertaining and informative vlogs and keep up the good work. Seasons greetings to you and your family.
Quite a surprise but not really. All dealerships are in a bind. It’s a motorcycle for cripes sake. Either it’s a pleasure bike or it’s basic transportation. Anyway it’s fine engineering but overthought. Just my .02. Great vid as always! Be well Smoaks!
Will definitely miss the BMW content. I always appreciated the bits of knowledge that was given, ie: charging through the din socket, using BMW oil, and I now use the BMW chain oil on my electric gate. Speaking of chain oil, better stock up. 😄
I'll miss that as well..! Funny you should mention that, as I stocked up on BMW chain lube and spray cleaner/polish the morning I heard it was official. Lol Thanks so much!! 👍
Yeah, I'll miss that as well..! 😔 Funny you should mention that, as I stocked up on BMW chain lube and spray cleaner/polish the morning I heard it was official. 👌 Thanks so much!! 👍
I think it is a good choice your dealership is cutting ties with BMW. They make cool and cutting edge motorcycles and cars but they are very expensive for the average consumer to purchase and fix out of warranty. I think your work life will be much improved with them out of your life. Here in Tampa Bay there are only two dealers that sell BMW bikes. Looking forward to seeing you work on Honda and possibly other brands in the future. Merry Christmas
Over 50 years I have owned so many different brands of motorcycles. I've always like the looks of BMW's, especially the old ones back in the day. However the modern ones seem way too complex and over-engineered as well as the expense. So I have always talked myself out of buying one. Now as an old man I have mved to three wheels and bought an overly complex, over-engineered Spyder RT.
Wow…didn’t see that coming, big news indeed. Good to see the Spyder being repaired…just wondering if you folk have seen the new xps tires for the Spyder’s. Wondering if they are worth the upgrade for my 2022 RT. Have a great weekend👍
I was gonna say, you're not going to miss the k1600s. Seemed like last week, you were saying BMW was coming and you went to Ontario for training. Maybe the big "R" is sooner than you think. 🫣 If you can, do it. I did, no regrets. You'll pitter patter at something home. 😊
Lol, I certainly won't miss those..! It does seem like a sort time ago that this was kicking off... Boy does time ever fly by! Definitely looking forward to retirement. Hope I played my cards right. 🤞 Thanks Steve!! 👍
Glad my bicycle 🚲 wasn't thrown out. I might have to clean and lube the chain come springtime. RE seems to keep tech to a minimum and still keep customers. 🙏🙏
As I grew up on chain drive bikes, and still have a garage full of them, I find them to be very maintenance friendly... Maybe I'll do my Pan Am tomorrow since it's supposed to be rainy out. RE is on fire lately..! I would love to see our store take them on, our Bend, OR store has them. Thanks John!! 👍
It’s my fault, I traded in my 1250 GSA for an Aprilia Tuareg 660. The Vancouver store needs to sell Royal Enfield like the Bend store. With the new Himalayan, Bear and Guerrilla, RE is pumping out great AFFORDABLE bikes these days.
Hey Shawn. Did the Olympia toy run yesterday and was pleased at the number of Spyders and Rykers that braved the cold and torrential rains to help raise money and donate toys for the kids. I took the Harley Sidecar filled with toys and then went with my group to Pullayup for a night light parade decorating all our bikes with lights. I would love to see you all take on Royal Enfield too. The new 650 classic looks like a real winner and would look cool next to your classic 350. I have noticed that most of the brands are coming out with 400 cc to 500 cc bikes now. Since I grew up in the 70’s when a 125 was a bike you learned on and 350 to 650 were big bikes you toured on, it does my heart good to see that segment came alive at a price the average young person can affoard. I considered a BMW adventure bike a year a go but wound up buying a KLR 650 for a quarter of the price and have been having a ball riding the fire roads and am preparing for the Washington BDR this next summer. I love my big bikes as you know but I want to see more young blood coming into our sport to keep it alive. Hope you and Kelly have an awesome weekend. By the way, we are loving the two STS you helped prepare for my daughter MIssy and my wife Robynn. 🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕
That's great that you guys had a good turnout..! 👌 The 350 to 650 segment is definitely hot and growing now. I love a big bike as well for long hauls and such, but my heart is in the simple mid-sized bikes. Love seeing this growing, and like you say, getting new riders coming into the sport. Thanks so much Michael!! 👍
I have loved BMWs for a long time but they have had so many major issues I stayed away from buying one. As bikes get more and more complex the appeal of a bare bones bike with as little electronics is the direction I find myself going. It doesn't seem to matter who makes the bike all the manufacturers have some issues with bikes now that they are so high tech.
I agree, complex electronics are the Achilles heel of most motorcycles these days, even the ones we love the most... 😔 Other that Pan Am, I keep this nice simple. 👌 Thanks Doug!! 👍
Excellent video as usual. Sorry to hear about the BMW's. Can-Am caught my eye. Any suggestions regarding the cleaning and ridding of the bugs in and on the radiators.
Yeah, it's bummer, but I understand it. I really fear for the smaller dealers that have to rely on them. They were actually a small part of our overall sales. Use some automotive bug softener/remover and back-flush the radiators with non-high pressure water does a really goos job. Thanks Gary!! 👍
Can the plugs be changed on a 21 RTL with only taking the side panels off? Dealer did my 28K and only took the side panels off from the frunk to the rear saddle compartment.
Unfortunately the whole upper fairing assembly and air boxes still have to be removed to gain access to the plugs...! 😔 The 28K service is a big service. Thanks for watching and commenting!! 👍
WOW, 😮disturbing news, didn’t see that coming. I think I found your channel because of the 1250 GSA ya had in the garage. For the longest time I thought you owned it. THATS IT!!! Im unsubing. Just kidding. As long as you post videos I’m watching. Any plans on a new brand? (Triumph comes to mind)
Yeah, it's sad, but I seen it coming... 😔 I'll miss doing the BMW content for the vlogs for sure! There'll probably be those that will bail out over it. Thanks for sticking around! 👌 I don't think they have any plans as of yet for anything new. As BRP products make up 25% of all power products sold in the world, I'm sure they'll gain some showroom space now..! Lol Thanks Bradley!! 👍
Well that's sad. I'll miss you fighting with the K1600's but yes, a BMW franchise is not the most profitable and the down turn since covid wouldn't have helped. If you do become a Honda tech it'l be something new to look at. Maybe you can restore a CBX😂😂
Yeah, the writing was on the wall for a while I'm afraid. Frees up some prime space for what actually sells well. Restoring a CBX would be awesome! 👌 Thanks Charles!! 👍
God will bless you my son. You do what no other would do. Look after the customer despite the cost to you personally but you sleep well at night and that is what makes you YOU!!! The R1250RS is an awesome bike! Feels so much lighter than it actually is. 👌
Thanks so much Mike!! 👍

Wow, pretty big news there Shawn. As lomg as everything works out in the end thats the important part. Take care
It will all be fine, at least I won't lose pay over them anymore... Lol
Thanks Douglas!! 👍

OOw what a shame, here in the UK we are having loads of BMW Motorrad shops close.. just aint the sales there..
Wow…didn’t see that coming, big news indeed. Good to see the Spyder being repaired…just wondering if you folk have seen the new xps tires for the Spyder’s. Wondering if they are worth the upgrade for my 2022 RT. Have a great weekend👍
I haven’t seen the new XPS tires yet, but I’ll do a vlog on them when they start showing up. 👌
Thanks Chris!! 👍

😢 really sorry to here, surprised because BMW over here seems to be down but doing better than others
Premium brands are having a tough go lately, I hope it sorts itself out..! 🤞
Thanks Troy!! 👍
Have a great weekend!!!
Thanks for the well wishes Dj!! 👍
I didn’t see that coming. Guess I won’t be seeing you fly to Ontario California and walk by the big fountain everyday after class.

Thanks Levi!! 👍

looks like the battery mentainer cable is mounted wrong and should be connected on top fo the proper battery cable ..
Yes, they will be corrected before she goes up for sale..!

Bye bmw. Quirky and seemingly as unreliable as their cars.
