- Bobby Vylan, front man of Bob Vylan, whose We Live Here was voted number one in Louder Than War's top 20 tracks of 2020. The album of the same name was voted number 2 in LTW's top 250 albums of the year! Here, in a fascinating interview, Bobby talks about everything from the remarkable mash up of punk meets grime through the political motivations for the song to his love of Lego!
Bob Vylan are an essential duo. The best thing to happen to Punk for ages. Thank fuck they are gonna tour soon.
How come nobody’s mentioned Rage Against the Machine? Bob Vylan is new to me but a couple songs immediately reminded me of Rage.
He's such a cool guy.
Funnily enough when Rap came along I realised that that's what Steve Ignorant had been doing back in the day.
The interviewer is a little misleading in parts of this: punk has never been the insular, absolutist white entity that he perhaps implies it is - it's always had black exponents/absorbed and reflected black influences.
I agree although it wasn't meant to come across like that - Death/Bad Brains - also the Rage Against The Machine comparison. Just one of those things in a live interview. I Needed to think quicker & more laterally.
@@NigelCarrUK thanks for the reply Nigel. Yeah I imagine it is a very hard thing doing live interviews. I thought it was mostly successful, and it was certainly enjoyable to watch - what I mentioned above was my only gripe really. All the best mate.
Thanks Ness
Really enjoyed this- cheers!
Does he sample? How does he sound so punk rock. This one dude is my favorite current punk rock band
we didnt appear out of thin air why is grime music even mentioned
interviewer makes me feel awkward when hes pursuing the clash of cultures bit. and the you-should-run-the-country bit
And that's ok
same
Didn't make me feel awkward, made me cringe truth be told. Bad Brains not on his radar?
I feel like both of these dudes like to separate “cultures”...I don’t know how shit works in the UK, but hip hop has always been punk, whether it’s intentional or not. Music can save us from all this division if we quit playing into separatism bullshit. ⒶⒺ ACAB ☮︎
