That's one of the greatest things about the movie. You watch Michael change from some good ole dude into a mad dog gangster, but the evolution seems at least sort of understandable every step of the way.
I agree. Kay certainly stood in the way of the family's happiness. Nevertheless she didn't do anything wrong, she's just being a white american woman. But Michael would not end that way had he married an italian who puts la famiglia before everything.
Omar Mesilhy she isnt surprised about his business, she’s surprised of what Michael had become. This WAS a sweet man who wanted nothing to with the business, who decided to join the business because his love for his family (his father) - then he became someone who treated his family as his subordinate for the business, someone who killed his own brother. He lost himself in the process. Like someone said, Vito took a business and made a family, which is why he died surrounded by loving family. Michael had a family and made it a business. Which is why he ended alone in the ending of Godfather 2 (he knew it), and he died alone in Godfather 3
Kay never interfered with his business at all. She simply reacted after Michael slowly losing himself in the process of growing the business. Her relationship had nothing to do at all with it. It depends on how you define a great don. If you only see it from the business perspective, then he’s a great don. But Vito was The GODFATHER because he made family while running business. Michael on the other hand, lost himself, and as a result, lost his family. This is the part where he failed, and he know that. Like come on man, why would you blame his wife for wanting to leave him when this is someone who changed so much, he killed his OWN brother. Would you feel safe around him? He doesnt feel like a family anymore. He feels like everyone’s boss
2:26 - They were already celebrating thinking Barzini had finally won, not realizing Don Vito and Michael had a plan in place for his end. The only thing Michael was doing at this point was sorting out some last details, like who was the traitor was - which was Tesio...Michael was initially vastly underestimated.
And that's the thing that baffles me.. how do you underestimate the guy that killed Sollozzo and a New York police captain in one sitting?! Smh. Michael has shown he is ruthless and he will do what needs to be done to save his family. He will take those risks others would not initially. They were wrong for underestimating him.. it led to their end.
@@candiceducreay988 because vito AND sonny were still alive at that time....they had no idea it was Michael who orchestrated the whole plot to kill sollazzo and mccluskey....for all the other families know, Vito or even sonny could have mastermind that hit.....this is why Michael is underestimated. At that time, he had NO association with the criminal side of his family, everyone knew and saw Michael as a "civilian".......even after Vito dies- Barzini see Tessio switch sides, which is a CLEAR indicator that even Michael's own family didnt have faith in him he felt the Corleone's were about to crumble. So, I can see why it was easy for them to underestimate Michael
tessio has realised that balanced of power has shifted after the death of vito corleone! he turns out to be an opportunist snake ....but michael is smart enough to realize the situation after all those wisdom from his father.. .....the real don Michael Corleone!
Actors like Marlon Brando ... and Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro ... these are not repeatable and I don't know if anyone can fill them in ... I really like these games .... They also have a special personality ... Of course Marlon makes Brando happy. Thank you for giving us some memorable clips
The Don's funeral is the start of the greatest half hour in Cinema history. Which is the last half hour of the movie. Think about it, he settles all family business, takes out Carlo, seizes total control. Plus the way he ends the movie, looking right into Diane Keaton's eyes and lying. And you could see that she was wanting to believe him but wasn't totally sold and then she watches as someone kisses Michael's ring and Al closing the door.
He didn't lie. Carlo was no longer Carlo to him the guy he had killed insulted his intelligence abused his sister and got his brother killed. Connie was still in shock and upset but Kay not understanding was heartbreaking for him as his wife she should of.
2:58 - Michael was seriously poker faced. Tesio didn’t have a clue. Surprised Tesio underestimated him after Michael had already killed the Turk and the Chief Police. Seems he would have a little better sense of Michaels potential cunning.
He didn't know, just like the others, that Mike and the Don were planning a Wholesale slaughter. He didn't respect Mike enough thinking th Corleones were a done deal after Vito's passing and chose to save himself and go with who he thought would be number 1..... Oops
The change started with wanting to keep his father alive, which is completely understandable. Once he did what he had to do to make that happen, he had already officially become a major player in the criminal underworld and people were out to kill him and weaken his father's family business. He did what he had to do to deal with those threats. It is so trippy how somebody who becomes the most powerful mafia don in the United States can seem like the good guy, even a hero.
And oh boy we all know how Michael waited. He was both highly intelligent & cool! The ultimate master chess player. He knew how to play this hand. A masterpiece epic of a movie everyone!
Old St. Patrick's Cathedral on Mulberry Street was used for the christening scene interiors......Mt, Loretto Church on Staten Island was used for the exterior scene after the baptism
REALLY???? Wow.....pity she grew up and played such a lousy role in the third Godfather! Lol Sorry, Sofia! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Whatever were you thinking of??? 😂😂🇬🇧
After Vito died the other families saw the Corleones as weak n feable. This is why Tessio who was with Don Vito frm the getgo switched allegiance, he had no faith in Michael. Michael Had to orchestrate a purge of this magnitude to show them the family was in full effect......... Bad Bad BAd Movie................ #1
You see Clemenza at the funeral after he places the rose, looking up and back through the years he spent with Vito. So moving. What a great performance by Richard S. Castellano through out the film. He had done mainly comedic parts before then.
Godfather Trivia: The infant in this scene is not a boy, but is Sophia Coppola, daughter of the director, who also appeared in Godfather III 20 years later, as Michael's daughter.
Thing I like about this scene was Tom being aware of the the same thing that Michael and Vito were, that whoever comes to him with a meeting will be the traitor.
This is nothing short of the greatest scene in cinematic history. The juxtaposition has often been copied but never equalled, nor bettered. The whole film is a masterclass in film making but this is a level above.
Plus, coppola originally has frank petangelli’s role to clemenza. The actor refused since he does not want clemenza to betray the corleones thats why he and his wife wanted a different script for clemenza. Coppola refused and thus frank was created

This scene in the cemetery was so amazing, because all the Italian mafia was there. And Michael Corneone after the funeral of your father become the new boss of the mafia.
Micheal being a captain in marine corps and also referred to as a war hero (in front of the hospital his father was in) gives him leadership ability far superior to the average street thug and taking time to really listen to his father unlike Sonny and Fredo gave him the guts and foresight to wipe out the heads of the five other families that would no doubt have him killed
Bo Zi not sure of anything about you, but you have a lot to learn. SEALS Marines and all other branches are trained to higher level and coupled with hands on experience that gives them many advantages over lesser humans, like you obliviously are.

Michael knew what Barzini would do even before Vito told him i think Michael was smarter even than Vito
his only flaw was that we wasn't born Sicilian
Michael Corleone would have been a great don like his father if he had a Sicilian wife, who didn’t interfere in his business
MGTOW
I agree. Kay certainly stood in the way of the family's happiness. Nevertheless she didn't do anything wrong, she's just being a white american woman. But Michael would not end that way had he married an italian who puts la famiglia before everything.
While I am watching the movie i wanted to say kay what the fuck you're married to a mafia man why you are so surprised about his business
You bet Clemenza loyal to the end! He was always loyal ever since he and Vito first met in New York

Great movie and actors 👏
Marlon Brando too. Sensational acting in reenacting Vito’s death.
Michael was a step ahead.
Best film the last 50 yrs
can't believe Tessio plotted to kill Vito's son. that's straight ruthless. business, but straight ruthless.
khanvictt i always like him..
PaulPierceIssaBum AssNigga iknr. But it's all politics within their day to day stuff. Damn.
Tessio thought Michael was weak.
tessio has realised that balanced of power has shifted after the death of vito corleone! he turns out to be an opportunist snake ....but michael is smart enough to realize the situation after all those wisdom from his father..
.....the real don Michael Corleone!
It's not personal, It's strictly business.
Barzini pulled Tattaglia's strings, meaning he's the most powerful don.Even in The Godfather:The Game the Barzini family is the toughest family.
His father's wisdom about whoever set the meeting up will be the one who betrayed you....
Oh damn that's crazy. Never caught that before.
The stunt man who fell after being shot, should have got an award for that fall (Barzini).
I would have put another couple of rounds into Barzini "just to make sure" .
The Hat did some good acting too.
@@12348477 lol
That stuntman has performed that similar stunt in several other movies or era.
I think The Rock and Vince McMahon always referenced this whenever they got Stone Cold Stunners
The most Awesome Movie Ever Made. In my humble opinion.
Actors like Marlon Brando ... and Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro ... these are not repeatable and I don't know if anyone can fill them in ... I really like these games .... They also have a special personality ... Of course Marlon makes Brando happy. Thank you for giving us some memorable clips
Lenendary Movies 💓👍..The..Goodfather ..1..2..3 all of them 💓👍🙏!!
al pacino greatest of all time 🙏🙏🙏
The Don's funeral is the start of the greatest half hour in Cinema history.
J.Scott Lacroix similar to 2
He didnt lie. She asked did he kill Carlo. He said no. Now if she had ask did you have Carlo killed would be a different story.
@@2199 ✔
He didn't lie. Carlo was no longer Carlo to him the guy he had killed insulted his intelligence abused his sister and got his brother killed. Connie was still in shock and upset but Kay not understanding was heartbreaking for him as his wife she should of.
J.Scott Lacroix - yes. No Anglo Saxon Caucasian Americano will ever understand what drives the “Sicilian”...
the godfather is the number one motion picture movie of all time worldwide
I love the duality of this scene!
all three of em
Best Movie for me for all time!💯💯💥💥👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
2:58 - Michael was seriously poker faced. Tesio didn’t have a clue. Surprised Tesio underestimated him after Michael had already killed the Turk and the Chief Police.
Seems he would have a little better sense of Michaels potential cunning.
Grilgot1
He didn't know, just like the others, that Mike and the Don were planning a Wholesale slaughter. He didn't respect Mike enough thinking th Corleones were a done deal after Vito's passing and chose to save himself and go with who he thought would be number 1..... Oops
The last thing that his father ever did for him: Saved his life.
Just in case Tessio's disloyalty wasn't obvious enough to Michael, he walks over and darn near hugs Barzini right in front of him. Not smart Fish.
I don't know, how many times i watched this movie... And still!
Hooptie Hamburger he was a hero... to his family :)
Marvellous, simply marvellous
And oh boy we all know how Michael waited. He was both highly intelligent & cool! The ultimate master chess player. He knew how to play this hand. A masterpiece epic of a movie everyone!
Lack of class to smile like that while shaking hands at a funeral.
Almost looked like they were congratulating each other on no longer having the Corleone family to compete with. Michael noticed, no doubt.
*Heavy organ music intensifies*
Then the contrasting Church bells. Brilliant
Love the stone face on Pacino. Great acting.
still remember when i saw this for the first time. absolutely blew me away.
B d do you know anybody that saw it in the movie theater when it was first released?
Powerful scene. One of the greatest in movie history.
THE GODFATHER IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE! ALL 3 PARTS ARE THE 🐐.. #TEAMCORLEONE
Part 3 is Hot Garbage. Better to pretend it was never made.
Joseph Lauren
True .I agree .
Joseph Lauren Amen, it’s an abomination. No way Michael would turn into that much of a whiner.
One of the best movies ever made, and one of the best books ever written.
Old St. Patrick's Cathedral on Mulberry Street was used for the christening scene interiors......Mt, Loretto Church on Staten Island was used for the exterior scene after the baptism
Such great movies! Wonderful acting throughout required viewing for everyone. Actors actually acting!
The baby is Sofia Coppola
@@samanthab1923 But also do some good work on other films.
She was dreadful as a baby.
And she make a great movie "virgin suicide"
REALLY????
Wow.....pity she grew up and played
such a lousy role in the third Godfather! Lol
Sorry, Sofia! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Whatever were you thinking of??? 😂😂🇬🇧
This part was the best part saying that Iam powerful and u have to come to me to decide. Old fashioned family saying. Love it
After Vito died the other families saw the Corleones as weak n feable.
Notice that they cut to Michael looking at Clemenza grieving. Michael knew it wasn't him before Tessio even came to talk to him about he meeting.
Godfather Trivia: The infant in this scene is not a boy, but is Sophia Coppola, daughter of the director, who also appeared in Godfather III 20 years later, as Michael's daughter.
Scary to think that SAME baby is 50 YEARS OLD as of a few months ago...
Al what a great role for him as Michael Coreneal The Godfather one of the greatest mob movie's of all times.
Thing I like about this scene was Tom being aware of the the same thing that Michael and Vito were, that whoever comes to him with a meeting will be the traitor.
Tom Hagen, as a german/irish, was more of an asset to the family than all of the italians.
Ya, I like the fact that his senses were up as soon as Mike got up to talk.
Too bad he wasn't physically stronger than Sonny to restrain him...😬
This is nothing short of the greatest scene in cinematic history. The juxtaposition has often been copied but never equalled, nor bettered. The whole film is a masterclass in film making but this is a level above.
"...were I'll be safe." The sarcasm, dripping from his voice.
if clemenza was alive in GF2..the movie could have been more epic..
always love clemenza
He was alive. They wrote him out because his girlfriend was too demanding.
@ wanted too much $$$
He was alive, but from what I understand, he got greedy. & wanted more say in the movie, so he was written out.
Plus, coppola originally has frank petangelli’s role to clemenza. The actor refused since he does not want clemenza to betray the corleones thats why he and his wife wanted a different script for clemenza. Coppola refused and thus frank was created
@@lovelygivan5533 no...Francis Ford Coppolla himself said that, they met ALL of his salary demands and offered him whatever he wanted....the problem was, his girlfriend (who plays his girlfriend in the Godfather, who says "dont forget the cannolis") wanted to write ALL of Richard Castellano's lines and dialogue for the movie...Francis told her to fuck off lol this is why he wasnt in the second one...NOT because of money or anything else. Francis said he really wanted him in the movie
tatalia got the machine gun special cause of santino
Barzini should have gotten it then not Tattaglia

THIS IS THE MOVIE OF ALL MOVIES,
AL PACINO AT ITS BEST !!!
This scene in the cemetery was so amazing, because all the Italian mafia was there. And Michael Corneone after the funeral of your father become the new boss of the mafia.
Micheal was a US Marine, that and his father’s wisdom made him great!
Bo Zi you certainly have a right to your opinion,as feckless as it is, that’s what me and all my brothers and sisters, from all branches, for 243 years gave to you.
@Bo Zi bro, what are you talking about?? Lol there have been several mafia members who were made and have military backgrounds
The cast..crew... director... behind the scenes teams.. down to the smallest extras..all put their incredible talents together to make this movie what is was..and will always be.. simply superb...!!! Each scene a masterpiece.. thanks for sharing,!!!
I love how willie has time for a clean shave all classy then kills a man with a psycho look lol
I'm glad we got more of him in the next film, even if he was a rat.
What a dynamic ballet. Riveting, raw and captivating! This is the god scene from which all other scenes arise! Behold!
I guess Barzini never had the makings of a varsity athlete
Dah Bay He looked like Pee Wee Herman running up those steps
Uncle Jun
Nope. He should never have ditch P.E. when they were running sprint drills...🏃💨 🔫
Amazing everytime i watch this movie, i still cant believe that Tessio wud betray his 1st family ever! But i liked Clemenza, he looked true!
The best thing of the climax is that he took 5 years to conduct this mass murder, with a well planned scheme, and a perfect allibi
You mean 5 years from when the Don was shot?
@@WarReport. 5 yrs from Santinos assasination I suppose
@@arjun_cma wht did he mean by Alibi...no alibi rite? Evryone knew its was Mike..
@@Relaxxpoint Michael was at his son’s baptism... there was no way to connect the murders from the public’s perspective, and the family still had a bit of power with the press. There was no forensic science back then and no phone records, so no way to tie Michael to the murderers unless someone got caught (which they didn’t).
How can someone claim you killed numerous people at different locations at the same time, when you were in a church with a priest when it happened? Perfect alibi
@@Relaxxpoint And the ones that know it was you know well enough not to mess with you. Not only did Michael avenge Santino and Vito, but he sent a message that anyone can get it if they mess with the family. Master stroke

This is the greatest scene, in the two films. The first film is the greater motion picture. Each scene morphs into the next. Beauty pure beauty.
