How Britain turned its back on gender ideology - with Julie Bindel & Simon Fanshawe

- In 2014, gay rights charity Stonewall was riding high, culminating in the legalisation of same-sex marriage. Since, the charity has prioritised trans rights over lesbian, gay and bisexual people. In response, Britain is turning its back on the organisation, which has reported a deficit of more than £800,000. Feminist and campaigner Julie Bindel and Stonewall co-founder Simon Fanshawe join Natasha Feroze to discuss the rise and fall of the charity, and why Brits are shunning gender ideology more generally.

I can’t walk in anybody else’s shoes, but I’m still at a loss as to why people define their whole life by their sexuality.
THIS! ⬆️⬆️⬆️
It’s like their whole personality.
Because without that their victim narrative dies and they have to deal with the messes they are?
Julie is a bright light on the sinister murk of militant identitarian ideology. Kudos to her for speaking for LGB people in the face of authoritarian TQ+etc dogma.
Julie Bindel is a self confessed Misandrist. I don't want the Sectator to employ a self confessed Misogynist for balance. I don't need to hear from such a poisonous person on any topic.
Agreed. Poor William above has had his feelings hurt by Our Julie. Carry on the excellent work Julie. ❤️🇬🇧❌❌
This is one of the best, informative and honest discussions on this topic. We have a niece that is into this none-sense and when she chastised for not using her proper pronouns ( I was clueless at the time) I just told her,if I was "offending" her the best solution I could offer was,not to talk to me again. And that stopped that.I told her then that she was in a cult and I still believe that
Up to a point I could understand a very small minority of people are not comfortable who they are but this whole trans issue has moved into the absurd and hysterical and misogynistic.
I so love and admire Julie Bindel. Thank you Julie for all your work . Sincerely!
I really hope straight people realise that a huge percentage of gay people don't buy into what the contemporary activists are pushing. We know how much damage has been done, we know how ridiculous it is, but social media (and the mainstream media) have given these activists a huge megaphone. To any straight person reading this; you guys are awesome, and you are not the evil horde this insane movement makes you out to be.
A breath of fresh air. No self pity, no special pleading, just laughs and common sense. Thanks guys.
Julia is a lesbian. Shes the beginning of the lgbt+ allegiance. She has no authority to judge when her sexuality is just as subversive.
Many Gay people didn’t sign up for gender ideology debates. Groups like Stonewall got their remit without consultation or agreement . The push to accept an ever-expanding acronym (LGBTQIA+ etc.) was a top-down ideological shift , and what that has made me feel is a bit dirty again , brought back shame that I hadn’t felt since the 1980s.
Really horrid that you have to go through that. And I understand a lot of people who day they are "trans" have found no benefit; rather the opposite, from this regressive transgender movement as it has manifested for over a decade now.
I remember being so shocked when one of the Founders of Stonwall, by now an elderly gentleman, was beaten up by Trans people during a parade several years ago. That was when I stopped believing in Stonwall's goals. The attack was truly shocking.
Fred Sargeant, who was involved in the Stonewall riots in NYC in June, 1969, was beaten to the ground by transgenderists in September, 2022, at the Burlington, Vermont, Pride Parade.
A really good "explainer" video about this whole trans mess. Both Julie and Simon were brilliantly succinct.
I really enjoyed that conversation!
terrific discussion, many thanks to all
It's the difference between wanting to be accepted and part of the norm, and screaming that you are unusual. One gains respect, the other contempt.
A great comment. Well said.
I never thought I'd agree with Julie Bindel about anything, but her steadfast opposition to the gender identity nonsense and Stonewall's shameless protection racket compels me to admit that we have common ground.
Did nobody else notice that whilst Julie sat in silence whilst Simon spoke at length, she only got a few words in before he interrupted her! So even between these two we see the inequality between a gay and a lesbian. Overall, the male did 85% of the speaking. Twas ever thus!
Julie is quite capable of doing what she needs to do to be heard. She is a regular Spectator commentator and has her own platform The issue under discussion was Stonewall and he was one of its founding members and held prominent positions in it and therefore his insights are particularly relevant in this discussion. Furthermore he does not have the same access to media that Julie has. I think Julie recognised all of this and asked insightful questions when appropriate.
I was an intersection tumblr feminist. Voted Labour all my life up until most recent election.
Around 2020 had my political outlook shattered by how bonkers the gender woo became. Now reject all of it, all that critical theory garbage.
I have such a visceral negative reaction to the word “diversity” at this point. It makes my skin crawl. “Diversity by Design” - unfortunate name.
Definitely not a wise name choice
Nobody can transition from male to female and vice versa.
Tell that to all those who have
@@roryhungrrrThose who " have" are simply " trans man" OR " trans woman".
@@roryhungrrrIf you have transitioned you are simply trans male or trans female
False, if you mean what trans-people mean when they say that.
@@roryhungrrr Cutting off body parts and injecting hormones no more makes you the opposite gender than attaching a trunk and large ears to your head can make you an elephant.
Why are Stonewall still partnering with NHS organisations?
Brilliant. Measured, eloquent and reasonable. Thank you.
The most destructive discussion of the 21st century. Look at who the American president is.
Defund Stonewall for good!
Julie always sounds like her lungs are working at half capacity, like COPD. Hopefully she is okay.
Britain saw that just being disallowed from discussing a contentious issue was an immediate indicator of fascist attitudes.
Its a strange thing though, that what was claimed to be about human relationships has only ever been presented within political ideological frameworks. 🤷
It will only be gone when it's gone. Full stop.
Even the green party has disaffiliated from Stonewall now! They say it's 'not value for money' lol! It is skint from paying out to Shahrar Ali who took them to court and won
Hooray for common sense talk - thank you xx
Julie Bindel is my heretic 🫶✨
Took words out of my mouth. Thanks 🎉
Simon is dead right in saying that this narcissism extended itself to the Left . And I’m a socialist with lifelong union involvement. The “be kind” tag was lifted from Jeremy Corbyn without credit or context. I really don’t like the word ally and friend is a much better old fashioned word. Both speakers have a good grasp of history and logic. Julie is quite right in pointing out that women and misogyny have been overlooked A good thoughtful debate
(Spends the last 10 years demanding special treatment on the same level as someone with diplomatic immunity. Demands access to teaching kids things they shouldn't be learning without their parents consent. Becomes another talking head for the woke movement that devolved into a cult with its own unbreakable dogma)
wHy dOeS eVeRyOnE hAtE uS?!?!?!?!
Blimey, that bloke is coherent.
Great, albeit too short, conversation, thank you.
I'm American, and in my opinion, this all started in the US when SS "marriage" was decided by the Courts. If LGB had left marriage alone and atayed with Domestic Partnerships, everyone would have been ok with that. But traditional marriage is based on natural law, is the best for raising stable families and children, and is codified by all the main faiths. It is also based on biological fact. And SS "marriage" is based on subjective truth, that opened the door for the craziness we have now. It also sets up an reconcilible situation between those (such as myself) that will always hold to traditional marriage between a man and woman, and those who want to force us to change our view. I mean no disrespect here, but that paved the way for all this insanity now.
😂 The irony of TH-cam censorship! One can't speak TRUTH. It's part of how we got here!
Cutting up children you lot are barbaric
Most LGBTQIA+ individuals just wanted to be treated equally, be left alone, not be treated like we are sick or needed treatment for our "illness" . ...but somehow it was hijacked by greedy selfish individuals who want "special" treatments and gains.
I'm afraid i woipd never apologise nor ever call a man a woman. I would refer to him as "this person" but i will not lie about my fundamental beliefs. S8mon Fanshawe ha veen soooo sensible about this debate throughout. He has the capacity to see both sidesn of the argument. Kudos to him.
Thing is, it's not a belief it's a FACT that nobody can change sex
“Her relationship to the person she was before.”
He is still the same person. You don’t become a completely different person when you say you are trans.
you just wear different clothes... and some make up...
When it comes to what the fetishists did to children, we want jail time, lots of it.
❤Julie Bindel❤
Can we not have someone who isn't a self confessed Misandrist to say these true things? Will the spectator employ a self confessed Misogynist for balance? I hope not. Please stop using Judy Bindel.
Julie is the most knowledgeable person in the UK at present with vast experience with her investigations and reporting on male violence to females. Her input into Spectator is invaluable for us females- sorry it upsets ‘some’ males. Take the time to listen and look at her wealth of work for the good of women and girls. 🇬🇧❌❌
Thought I’d listen to this as I chopped an onion for dinner. By the time it finished I’d only managed to chop half of it. Really thought provoking and interesting. Thanks.
no tears shed then
tragic news about stonewall - i'm gutted for them 😀
Excellent video - very educational. Thank you.
Very interesting discussion, but please let Julie Bindle speaks! Simon keeps interrupting her.
"A style of politics". Yeah, crypto-neo-marxism. Mental stuff wearing the mask of empathy.
I was with Simon up until he said women were "socialised" to be kind and he was as cagey as someone trying to remove the detonater from unexploded bomb, and spoke as if emotions are forced into you externally was so silly and imposed specifically upon women. The fact he even said "I have read" was so pusillanimous it tiptoed ever-so-delicately across the border from obsequious to downright servile .
'like the option to bring up children' ; there we part ways; children are not a fashion or life style accessory, or a leisure activity, or a hobby; they are children, and every one of them has a natural father and mother, and every effort should be made to make good that deficit if they lack either proximity, for whatever reason. if ones choices preclude natural procreation, then too bad; do without. children need a father and mother, and to deliberately manipulate circumstances so as to make pretence of family, like some sort of wedding parody, is like the trans thing itself.
I think I'd rather grow up in a stable and loving single parent family, gay or straight, than a violent or highly dysfunctional marriage of a mother and father. Children neeed responsible loving parents, above all. Growing up with a mother and a father may or may not meet that need, but it is not the most important condition.
I haven’t got that far in the video yet; but if there are millions of children around the world without parents, surely being adopted by a same-sex couple is better than being raised in an orphanage or foster care?
Thoughtful and clear comment.
Really interesting thanks all
He just articulated neomarxism in all but name.@24:00
In honor of runawaysiren.
Fabshawe? He might take that on permanently as his moniker.
❤️🇬🇧❌❌
haha Fabshawe - think Mr Fanshawe might prefer that spelling!
Simon likes to think he is terribly posh but if you listen to his voice he isn’t posh at all. I wouldn’t say he is common either, but he is hardly posh. His accent goes towards being a bit common at times. He definitely wasn’t brought up to speak the queens English when it comes to accent despite what he likes to think.
Stonewall turned into the Church of the Blessed Alphabet
You made me LOL 😸😸
Oh, I like that! I've also seen Church of the Holy Gender
I'm getting the word...
This video is better than any show on TV. Now I know how to spend my evening💋
