- Come along for one of the best days of big bass fishing we've ever experienced! The fish are HUGE, the conditions are perfect, and the bite is wide open!! Matt's best 5 Smallmouth go nearly 28 lbs on this incredible afternoon on the water! From spybait to hair jigs, and all on ultralight tackle, this was a wild ride!!
When targeting big fish, attention to detail is everything. Watch as Matt develops a pattern, capitalizes on a bite window, and uses ultralight tackle to handle world class Smallmouth around boulders. This is the kind of day we all dream about, and we're so glad you decided to come along for the ride!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear Matt used throughout the day. We've included the exact sizes and colors for each bait, along with the specifics of the rods and reels he used to land these fish. Always great waking up to some tactical bassin!
Awesome brother. drinking a coffee and watching big Smallies?? doesn't get any better. 👏👏👏
Thanks for coming along!
I love the way you treat your fish. Protect to resource! Good watch.
Thank you!
I just love watching your rod tip and seeing that moment the fish hits. It’s what all fishermen live for!
There’s something special about those giant smallies 🙌
Thanks Matt, what incredible fish!
Thanks Sean!
What an epic day. Great vid.
Thanks!
1300 dollar combo sounds insane. But here I am wanting one. lol
Ha! It happens quick!!
Catch Just as many and as big on my 300 dollar combos and can have more of them for more application, seriously once you get above 3 or 4 hundred dollar there is very little difference prove me wrong, I have fished on Mega bass's stuff over price for sure it is good gear but not that good. not enough difference to make a difference.
@@kickinitoutdoors5782 agree 100%. I’ve caught more fish on my used jdm daiwa ignis reels and a daiwa BBB telescopic rod than I can count. From pike all the way down to a couple of shad who thought they were largemouths 🤣. I have one setup that’s a light rod/2000 reel, and one that’s a medium light/2500. They live in the truck and they’ve caught fish all over the country. I guess I could spend more on rods and reels… just can’t think of a reason why I would.
Amazing day! Someday I want to get up north to target Smallmouth. I feel like your videos will get me started in the right direction!
Love the finesse baits usually use them majority of the time. Thanks Matt for showing how to finesse catch those Smallies
Thanks for coming along, Gary!
Thanks!
Matt, thanks for the great video, brother! Gearing up for my local club tournament on saturday, here in ohio, fishing has been tough. Got a spy bait tied on my spinning rod. Gonna give it a whirl!
I love the fact I live in between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Big smallies all around me. 😂
Jealous of that for sure my TN. Reservoir I fish has pretty okay Smallies got my first 5lber. But work in London Ontario a lot and see all those giant smallmouth at the tackle shops makes a man jealous 😂
I'm a few hours below you in VA but fishing up there is on my bucket list. Consider yourself lucky!
@@theone031 They’re all over the place up here. Any system that connects to the Great Lakes holds small mouth. You can catch giants in creeks around here. I love it.
@@nicklauer8255 It’s definitely awesome living between two giant small mouth factories, not to mention the rivers and creeks that are attached that also hold big ones.
@@Triple87 below me are the monster largemouth, above me the monster smallies lol. I have some good rivers around me full of both. The New River, James River, Shenandoah, and Holston river all hold good fish if you ever come to VA 👍
Love the videos 🙏🏼
That water is so clear!
Now that was an awesome day!
The respect you show them, New sub from a swedish sportfisherman
Thank you for noticing, we appreciate you!
Absolutely incredible Matt,GIANTS all day 🏆❤️
Thanks man!
Matt can’t wait for your review after you put some time in on that Vanquish! Supposedly it has Stella drag with Exsence lightness. And super fast start/stop inertia. Shimano needs to bring Vanquish to America so we can still have a warranty
We've used Vanquish for a long time. We just refuse to promote non US reels. For the vast majority of people, it's a terrible idea to purchase an unsupported reel.
Okay, you've convinced me on the spybait. Insane day, what the hell dude!
Thanks for coming along!
Had fun fishing north this past spring. Gonna try some October northern smalllies this fall. Great video . Learned some stuff.
Awesome day Matt nice fish 😊
Thank you!!
EPIC EPIC EPIC Thank you Matt.
Thanks! It was so much fun!!
The best smallmouth video I have seen. Bassmd
Thank you Mike!!
Nice quality fish. 👍
🍺Nice day indeed🤠.
I'll be trying some of these this Friday!
Dude unreal, just football after football
We have a cool front rolling in this weekend and i will be on the water throwing everything i can lol
Am I hallucinating or did an ant go across my screen
We get fishing videos and horror movies all the same TH-cam channel 😂
Great now that’s all I’m looking for 😂
@@mexi0501 at 4 minutes
I’m just surprised there isn’t a link to ants at TW in the description now! 🤣🤣🤣
That Flyssa is one of my favs as well!
It's a gem!
You guys hurt my feelings lol😂
I’ve done every lure I have to catch bass but always end up with smallmouth buffalos 😂😂 i use the mimic sunfish and works great for buffalos 😂
What an incredible day!!
Look 🎉 like fun 🎉😊, really nice fish 🐠!
Freaken tanks. Awesome video.
Thank you!!
Considering Matt is wearing an insulated jacket he must be a lot closer to Canada than TN. It's 100 deg where I live and it sucks.
Totally killer brown bass trip. Some real brutes in this one. What was the surface water temp ? Seems like it must have been cool especially noting how those fish were coming to the net. No jumps, which improves landing percentage for sure. Either way, Nicely Done, sir.
Looks beautiful and an awesome day were you here in Michigan
That 6lber looks like a football, I can’t even fathom seeing a double digit smallie
Can y’all talk about hair jig fishing? That new 6th sense jig looks pretty snacky but other than salt water, not sure I have confidence in one for large and spots if it’s even a thing
I think you were around 27 for your best 5…. Dang Matt that’s unreal man!
I’ve caught my biggest bass this year on ultra light finesse bait. I’ve caught it in a very local pressure city lake too, plus on a cold, windy, raining day. I think how I caught the big bass is that everyone is throwing regular gears and bait such as frog, jigs, spinnerbait, etc. I rig on a tiny 2-3 inch worm wacky style and that the Big bass has never seen before.
Nice!! Catching giants on light tackle is so much fun!!
KARASHI, you guys have mentioned how great this lure is. But this lure review is always buried somewhere in another video. Could you do a video specifically on the KARASHI ?
you’re awful zen for this one i ain’t mad at it!
also the end about fish not being “home” got me thinking about a theory i’ve had for awhile…
and that’s can you use the direction a fish jets away from you, whether it be when you release it or if you spook it, to determine where “home” might be for that fish or at least significant stucture? particularly if you’re on the bank can you use the direction fish spook off to narrow down where you should be casting for unseen high probability structure?
Great perspective on understanding a fish's home 👍🏼 Those little clues are key!
Man, i bet tim was jealous..
They should bring back the reaper finesse bait. The most effective finesse soft plastic pattern i have ever used is the Aaron's Magic Robo Worm reaper. Put me on a lie detector to prove it! 😂
Scrounger video please......
What kind of 6 lb fluorocarbon though? Thanks so much for doin a smally upload kinda can’t believe the size of those fish honest to god monsters one of the best smally days I’ve ever seen flat out
His 6# is Invizex, 5# is Sunline Super FC.
Thanks Justin! If you open the video description of any of our videos you'll find everything laid out 👍🏼
@@tacticalbassin o crap my bad Matt I forgot you say that in all the videos , luckily got to go this afternoon it’s been an incredibly off schedule weird year up here but finally starting to dial in , I gotta get on the spy bait game looks like too much fun smh
@@Justin_Mooney11 Spybaits work great, my prob is I always catch myself tryin to twitch em like a jerkbait! 🤣
Hearing Marlon Brando "Stella!".
Awesome fishery a 26lb+ for a 5 bag of smallies! 😮
Awesome video matt! Think you could do me a solid and mail me that hair jig combo you got?
No, because it is better to work hard, save your money, and buy that combo as a reward for your labors. If they were to just give you that gear, you may not take care of it or appreciate expensive things given to you. It would also set a bad precedence online that people could just ask these guys for stuff and they would send it to you.
Yup it sure did lol
It was Antzilla😅
How does your skeeter ride compared to your champion.
How are you fishing the hair jig? I fish Erie Islands and would like to try that.
Slow and steady
@@tacticalbassin same way I fish swim jigs over grass. Thanks for the reply! Love the channel, great content.
I love how Tim and Matt have emphasized the importance of conservation and perpetuating best management practices (BMPs) in the sport of fishing. Living in California and struggling with over fished, and poorly managed fisheries, I can't emphasize enough how we need to take better care of our land and waters. Please pick up your trash. Learn to remove hooks that are deeply embedded in the fish.
Did any of you notice how he gives thanks upon releasing the quarry?
Thanks for noticing the small things 👊🏻
do you guys run 8 or 10ft raptors?
Hey Matt! Could you interchange the Flyssa with the Windbuster? Why or why not?
They're very different rods. The Flyssa has a very, very light tip section.
What lake is that cause I gotta catch me some magnums like that
What are you considering a "giant cast?" Im a bank beater thats new to baitcasters and im having trouble casting distance. I have a 7ft mh f 17lb fluoro and it doesnt matter if its a ¾oz swim jig or ¼oz jig head/swimbait i cant seem to cast "across the river" which is about 50yards dirt to dirt, can you recommend a length action power rod reel to cast farther than 25 - 30 yards? I keep reaching for my 7ft medium moderate spinning to get distance but limited to the tackle i can cast accurately. Do i need an 8ft rod? A 250$ reel? Or is 30ish yards about the max cast for baitcasting?
Wanted to know what line ?
Me too
It’s in the description just like every video they do 😂
surprised to see that you don't have any BFS setups on deck.
There were 4 BFS setups under the deck, I just never needed them 👍🏼
Idk if anyone else kept track of all the giants but I got 41lbs and 34ozs
Which lake was this on?
Hey Matt what size hair jig are you using?
Typically 1/8 and 3/32
Do you guys ever do any bfs frogging?
Scooper frog the best
Hey Matt, I only have money for either the Mega Live or 360. What one would you recommend?
I'd choose live every time. I like to power fish and move a lot, 360 is much more effective when foshing slower.
So that Flyssa or a Windbuster if you can only pick 1? I am getting ready to order one to replace a rod that just broke 😢! And I can't afford both. What's the smallest hair jig you can launch with it?????
Wind buster is not a hair jig rod
Flyssa for sure if youre a finesse guy. It'll throw the smallest hair jigs just fine 👍🏼
Tacticalbassin what Expride model is best for top water walking baits, and what model is best all around for cranking
The 7'2" ML is AMAZING for topwater. For cranking, I'd go with the 7'6" glass.
@@tacticalbassin you guys got me hooked on these Exprides and now I want a whole arsenal of Exprides 😂 started with 1 and I'm working on buying number 6 hahaha
I see a video about chartreuse lure on you channel sometime ago. Can you point me to the one it is?
Probably this one... th-cam.com/video/ARVjMDEtdnw/w-d-xo.html
@@tacticalbassin that’s a lot of chartreuse but I don’t think that’s it either. Thank you for trying though. I looked for it forever. Lol
Anyone knownthe lake? Not trying to go to it, just curious if he's on the TVA. Tournament coming up and definitely think these could work. Pretty sure its not where my Yak tourney is happening. Doesnt look familiar.
I think it may be one of the Great Lakes.
@@larrystolzman9337not a Great Lake. As someone from the Great Lakes.
@@Smiththebat you know that for a fact 😂
$1300 combo…
My truck isn’t worth that much…lol
I have a exist on a steez real control combo is 2 grand 😂😂
Dose your wife make bait
I'm lucky to catch a 4 lb LMB! and Matt is just slaying the 4 lb SMB! SMH!
Your turn will come, just keep grinding 👍🏼
Anyone notice if he had a trailer on hair jig? Was it just a naked jig?
Just a bare jig 👍🏼
It always blows my mind to hear you say the fish is 5+ pounds and the line # test is the same 😅🫡🙌
That’s where a good drag comes in lol I couldn’t begin to say how many bigger fish I’ve caught on 4-6lb main while crappie fishing lol
