The reason there were so many movie stars in this video was because this song was made for the soundtrack for a movie called “nothing but trouble“. The movie came out in 1991. It was a comedy starring Chevy Chase and Dan Ackroyd, along with Demi Moore and John Candy. It didn’t do very well at the box office, but we got this great song out of it.
The 2Pac that emerged AFTER the NY attempt on his life was only ever gonna die in the way he did. The guy he was before that, the sky was the limit. He was so brilliant, charasmatic, and talented. The body survived, but sadly the person he was didn't. It effed him up, Suge Knight took advantage of that and even fed into it. The music was still killer but he was on the verge of being the voice of a generation, and he ended up another Gangsta Rapper (save a vew songs). It makes that "now i clown around when I hang around with the underground," hurt just a little, because I really miss that version.
The membership of Digital Underground is huge, but it was essentially Shock G and the people he worked with. If you're interested in going further down the rabbit hole of DU, the whole Sex Packets album is great, but individual songs from that album I would suggest are "Doowutchyalike", "Sex Packets" and "Underwater Rimes", and listen to the longer version (not the remix) for the latter if you want to hear them use a sample from Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere".
Raw Fusion put out a song with 2Pac the same year this came out called #1 With a Bullet. (Money-B from Digital Underground is the rapper in Raw Fusion, DJ Fuze is the DJ.)
Digital Underground's involvement in "Nothing But Trouble" came about thanks to a combination of factors: 1. Dan Aykroyd's interest: Dan Aykroyd, who wrote, directed, and starred in the film, was a fan of the group's music, particularly their debut album "Sex Packets" 2. Commissioned song: Aykroyd wanted a specific scene featuring a talented musical group. He commissioned Digital Underground to write and perform a song for the film 3. Script integration: Aykroyd wrote the scene specifically to incorporate the group. The scene features the judge, a character he plays, encountering the group and requesting a song 4. Tupac Shakur's debut: This scene marked the film debut of Tupac Shakur, who had just joined Digital Underground before filming began Therefore, Aykroyd's appreciation for their music, his desire for a specific scene featuring a talented group, and the timing of Tupac's joining the group all led to Digital Underground's inclusion in "Nothing But Trouble."
