Very lovely bowl. I'll bet off-center turning is scary the first time. Liked the video very much and your humorous comments about sponsors (or the lack thereof).
Hi Keith, I have been turning wood for about 8 years now and am always looking for new ideas. I have been watch your videos for about 1.5 months and have got more ideas from you than any other source. I think your videos are great and hope you will keep doing them. Cheers Jeremy Anderson, Ottawa, Canada
Jeremy Anderson Thankyou very much Jeremy. I must admit it's difficult coming up with different ideas all the time though! Still,I'll keep trying😀 Kind regards, Keith
Very nice project, Keith. I've never trusted a glue block before, but after seeing this, I'm going to try it. Cheers from sunny central Florida, mate. Jim
Nice project Keith, glue chuck is a great idea & very cost effective way of achieving something 'different'. Enjoyed the process very much. Sorry, I haven't been watching/commenting for a while, health has got in the way but hope to be making shavings myself again soon. Thanks for brightening my day. Regards, Geof
geofo60 Geof Harris No apology necessary Geof. This was my first time in 54a for a few weeks, having had some trouble myself.Still,up and running again now! 😀
Thanks for a very informative video Keith. I'm going to start to turn my first off center bowl in the next few days & as I've only got a thin piece or Irroco your glue chuck method will be the best way to go for me.
Thanks Teraina. You’ll be okay with it,just make sure you get your glue as hot as possible.Hope you video it,will look forward to seeing what you do.Take care,Keith.😀
The point about purchasing fancy gadgets to do what you can do with simple ingenuity is very important - the gadgets don't give you the ability to do things that you can't do otherwise. Instead, they give you a little convenience, but at a hefty price. I find it a lot more fun to devise ways to do what the fancy gadgets do but without spending the money. Glue chucks are really handy. I've used hot glue for mid-size items. For small items, double-sided tape is often all you need. And if the item is large, you can resort ot PVA glue - just put a layer of paper in the joint with glue on both sides. It holds really well, and when the time comes to split it apart, just pry it apart with a bench chisel and the paper will split apart very neatly.
Louie Powell Yes,I have done the glue and paper on an inside out turning, and it worked very well. It is a good feeling working out how to do these things without spending a small fortune on something that won't get used very often!😀
Just trying to catch up since I was too lazy to watch any videos lately, how have you been my friend? Anyways, love the offset center bowl, always wanted to make one, and I think it's about freaking time I'll make one, thank you for the inspiration and the know how buddy! Yuval.
Yuval Lahav Woodturning Hi Yuval! Give it a go. I've just bought myself an eccentric chuck, and have been busy practising with it.Should be great for goblets, and making patterns on box lids etc. I still like the glue chuck though, but the new chuck is a lot easier to move onto the next stage. Take care my friend, Keith 😀
Cheers for that demo Keith. I've been checking out the other makers methods and your one is the one I'm going to have a go at. I like your style and Black Country? accent. Are you still making videos? Hope so. Best regards.
@@KeithBarrowat54a I apologize Keith. Got a 5"x 2/1/2" Beech disc with a glueblock stuck to it in the kitchen. Will tackle it tomorrow. It's cold here in Fife, so I thought I'd stick the bits together in the warmth of the house. Maybe I can let you know how it went? Best regards. PS. Is that mild Birmingham?
I've never wood turned, but I do know that if you want an easier way to separate hot glue from something, put it in the freezer for about half an hour, or an hour. It makes the glue quite brittle without damaging what you're working on.
"O.T.T. for such a small bowl" ... what's that mean? Nice little project. Another good video, too! A small, cheap heat gun, like one for model airplane shrink covering from a hobby shop, will soften the hot glue really well for removal, both to get it off the chuck and for final removal as well. What's next?
Over The Top. I used to make radio controlled model airplanes, and the one thing I never got was a heat gun!! What's next? You know me,haven't got a clue!!! :)
Hi Keith, enjoyed watching the off centre bowl video, but didn't see any coffee coming your way this time !!!. Has she left you, or gone for a walk with the dog ?.Where did you buy the L E D lights from please ?.I have done off centre bowl turning myself, but your method looks much simpler to do. I am struggling to make the segmented pencil bowl, but have succeeded to finish a pencil vase, I gave it to my daughter on her wedding day this last June, Couldn't have chosen a better gift for her . See you in another Video soon.
andrew ross Hi Andrew. Sheila doesn't make the coffee all the time,as I have a coffee machine in the workshop! The lights came from IKEA,only a tenner each, great value. Glad you managed something good with pencils!😀
I really love the bowl, beautiful elvish look in my opinion. :) I was curious about the glue you used. Is that normal glue sticks for the glue gun, or a stronger type?
Awesome lol. In school we were never taught how to use glue for a chuck piece, so and you're the first I've ever seen do that. I didn't know that glue could hold that well lol.
Once again - from plain to, eye catching candy! Job well done and we got to learn a new method. Just how big was the glue block? It looked to be only about 2 inch, (50mm), diameter? Keep the videos coming. Mark
There is something extremely satisfying about watching this dude carve out bowls.
Another good video Keith, you made it look easy without buying the expensive kit , take care Dave
DAVE Mann Thankyou Dave.As long as you've made a good glue joint and keep your fingers out of the way it really isn't too hard!!😀
Really nice, love the rings and how they meet...thanks for sharing
hi keith enjoyed watching this video on the off centre turning well done nice work
Thanks David,I enjoyed this little project :)
Nice looking bowl, Keith. I like your off-center technique...I'm going to have to try it out.
Hi Rick, glad you like it. It's pretty easy,as long as you get the glue nice and hot! :)
Very lovely bowl. I'll bet off-center turning is scary the first time. Liked the video very much and your humorous comments about sponsors (or the lack thereof).
Tom P Thanks Tom.Yes,it can be a bit scary, and you need to make sure your hands are well clear!😀
nice Keith certainly proving how strong the glue chuck can be.

just 1 thought could use some sort of rod with a point on to align glue bloke to centre mark a little less effort and a tad more accurate ??
Yes you could, but I just wanted to show the general method of doing this.
hi , dont you put hot glue underneath as well ?
Hi Mick,I’ve never bothered as it makes it harder to get off,but I know some turners do. I’ve not had a problem (so far) though.😀
Why did you turn the inside off-center element first?
Because that’s the way I wanted to do it.

Great video! How long did it take in real time to make the bowl? Please keep the entertainment coming! Best wishes from the U.S.A. Vicky
