      Thanks, yeah, I think most expect them to be regular glasses, which they certainly are not. Just some plastic to allow for being able to read something in an emergency.
      The little plastic credit card lenses can also do that, and I carry one of those in my wallet in case I'm at the store and have to read a label or something.

    I tried on a pair after watching this video. I got them a couple of years ago & was sent multiple pairs. After a couple of years I found that the plastic lens have gone brittle and cloudy like plastic shopping bags go after a while. I think I should make a unboxing video with the unopened ones & add the time aged glasses as a bonus view. 😂

    as a child, we always had binoculars for camping. they had a lenses that you rotate to dial in the focus.. They were very high end and expensive.. Why don't they have similar tech for glasses (other than expensive glasses doctors use in surgery..?).

    • @renaissancejames
      @renaissancejames  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I imagine it could be done, though maybe not at a cheap enough price for mass production. The technique for these glasses is just adjusting the distance between two cheap plastic lenses. Though I think a magnifying piece of plastic works better. :)

    pity! a quality version wouldv been heavy in glass but new tech materials should offer this option, maybe just over a small range as an add on to a prescription . eg i cant accommodate bifocals due to centre of screen issues but in addition to distance , different F lengths for different near focus situs - for lg screen computer/media work vs book/phone reading distance requires marginally different focal lengths
    itd be a good feature to add but would a proper lens company bother to reduce their sales by adding this when people choose different frame shpes, theyd have to have a few blanks for different models and still fit and adapt on demand . perhaps a co like dresden optics might as they only offer one stock shape in 3 sizes and exist to reduce manufacturing landfill obsolescence. i might suggest it. (btw I LOVE Dresden's ethos service people colours and concept - this just a free plug for my fave planet loving and incredibly affordable local spec supplier check them out. totally cool in Melbourne . genuine fan not sponsored (although they did offer me free bonus replacement specs in the past cos theyre so nice ) Id say mention me but then i d have to say who i am. just enjoy. )

    I mean these glasses they're not creating a storm all over America. Like the commercial would tell you. They probably would do a lot better if both lenses were the same size. And they actually made them look more like glasses and less like something you would put on in a science laboratory. They look ridiculous when you're wearing them with the small lenses in the side. If that second lens was the same size and the first lens has a black rim around it that's just thick enough to kind of hide the second lens when it slides forward and backward who wouldn't look so damn Goofy or just make both lenses the same size and keep the design the same it would still make it look so much better

    Especially during hot summer days, you might not want to keep a spare pair of higher quality prescription glasses in your car, just in case. In the heat build up, my lenses warped. Total loss! I imagine someone could do a great job with it. It seems like it's mainly just very poor materials that hinder its use and quality.
      But with so many poor versions out there, I imagine the reputation is tarnished to the point where no one will trust such a product anymore. Thus, it would be very tough to market.
      Still, yeah, it would be cool to have a good version of them, or something technically assisted.

      I agree, and I’m not even a doctor.
      I am not only nearsighted, but one of my eyes was damaged a couple of decades ago.
      You tend to learn a lot about how things work when you have a problem and pay close attention to it, as well as doing some homework on it.
      The astigmatism is so awful in the bad eye, that the only off-the-shelf glasses I buy are 350+, and that is because I work with tiny little things, or need to see fine damage on the equipment I work on.
      I don’t think these are for me.

    Thought they might work for reading on the computer, but they were terrible, as reported below. Hard to adjust. VERY narrow vision - like looking through a microscope. The plastic material of an adjustable lens needs to bend. So it won't be very good for very long, as the flexing of the plastic is achieved by adding "plasticizers" - not very stable. A more chemically stable plastic is used in proper glasses, but it too goes yellow like the headlight covers of your car.

    They are absolute JUNK! I got suckered into buying a pair, they ship from Communist China, (where they're made), and take forever to be delivered. And when they finally arrive, you will find that the lenses do not focus worth a crap, it's like looking through a fish eye lens, and they have the same feeling and focus capability of a $0.99 pair of binoculars you buy in a dollar store toy isle. The construction is cheap and shoddy, and the focus knobs are so tight you end up hurting your finger while you hear the cracking sound of them breaking while you're simply trying to focus them.
