- Vic Firth artist Joel Rosenblatt performs at the 2012 Montreal Drumfest! Joel is best known as the drummer for Spyro Gyra, one of the most successful pop-jazz groups ever.
Some of Joel's varied early work with Dominican pianist Michel Camilo, bluesman Matt "Guitar" Murphy, jazz artist Paquito D'Rivera, and country-rock band Pure Prairie League, has given him a wide range of experience and made him one of the most diverse drummers around! - เพลง
I was very fortunate enough to work with Joel in a popular country band - Pure Prairie League - at about the same time he was also playing with Michel Camilo. I don't think either of us expected to play in a country band but back then it was way better money than I was making on the local scene so why not? It ended up that it was a great time and I realized you can learn from any situation. The guys in the band nicked named Joel "Rolls-n-fills" but we all loved his playing - he was spot on and a fiery drummer every night. But the best thing about Joel was that he was super great guy - down to earth and a lot of fun to hang with. Sounds great Joel!
His taste in fills, his solid groove and undestanding of time are simply unmatched! Damn your good Joel!!!
FANTASTIC DRUMMER! and super nice guy, I had the pleasure of playing after him at the Kaslo Jazz Festival in B.C. Canada a few years, really nice guy.
Rosenblatt is so solid and crisp in his playing. Unreal stick control. Saw him a couple years ago with Chieli Minucci/Special EFX.
His kit is one of the best sounding I've ever heard!
A great player to learn from and emulate. If I could pick one person to play like it would have to be Joel.

I’m trying to understand what you mean by “clean” and how Joel would be “cleaner” than Billy Cobham or Dave Matthews’s drummer, or the guy who drummed for Rush or Vinnie Colliauta (sp) or any number of other drummers. This is a serious question not some wise ass response.

I've been following Rosenblatt since my discovery of him on Michel Camilo's self-titled album. I've never been able to figure out why he's not more well-known. The guy is amazing...
because he made recordings in the past that sound to much like Weckl...I think that actually did not help to his music career...But yes, hes great drummer.
@@bataxs1 I agree with you, the funny thing is that on that Camilo record Rosenblatt somehow outperforms Weckl in his own territory...

Been a fan of Joel's for many years (since his days with Spyro Gyra). He has such solid groove and stick control.
This video is a song called "No Strings Attached" from the funky CD "Double B/Double V", a joint effort from guitarist Vinny Valentino, bassist Baron Browne and Joel Rosenblatt. The CD features the keys player Tom Coster and one track with the super voice of Chrissi Poland.
When I was a kid I used to listen to my dad's Spyro Gyra CD all the time. That production was always so nice. Made my little mini stereo back in the 90's sound so awesome. Cool to finally put a face to that drummer I used to pretend to be in my room. HaHa
I just saw Joel play last week in the Berkshires -- his technique flawless and his musicianship first-rate. Never explained was why he left Spyro Gyra abruptly in 2004 while the band was recording The Deep End.
WAY underrated. Dude's a beast.

Great technique / Chops. Fills are really hip. I believe this is a TAMA Silverstar kit - he is a TAMA artist. The snare doesn't look like the standard one that comes with Silverstar kits though. I'm hearing a lot of Weckl influence in his playing style - & that always sounds great.

Joel and Dave were actually roommates at UB (University of Bridgeport). Both are phenomenal percussionists.
Ray! the kit is a Starclassic performer b/b in red sparkle burst finish, the main snare is a starphonic aluminum snare and the auxiliary piccolo snare is a metal works steel 13
They both Studied together when they were young so its not surprising that there is some Weckl in there

I think he sounds a little like weckl. but I really dig his style!
What VF's does he use?
they are friends and studied together... and had some of the same teachers :-).. they both for instance played on Michel Camilos records, and you will be challenged to hear who is who between them.. I like Joel better though.. better groove and swing than Dave (no disrespect intended!).
Correction, Weckl tries to sound like him, they were roommates back in College, they both toked classes with Gary Chester. Weckl is a tremendous Drummer, But Joel's Sound Is way much better.

Keith, If they we old spyro records than it was most likely eli Konikif, I think I butchered his name....or stave jordan or Gadd....Or even Richie Morales. Check put the name's you might be surprised anyway there all great!!! best
