  • In this video, I show how I replace the cable driven heater control mechanism. This affects your vent controls, and where the air blows. Not too difficult. I bought the replacement part from Rock Auto.

    Thanks for this video, Bear ✊🏾 I'm about to make my wife a happier lady after I fix this issuein her car. I thought it would be harder until I saw your video. The mechanic shop wanted to charge about $200 just for labor.

      If the a/c is not working, there is a resistor behind the glove box. I replaced it and mine worked.

    That's a great beater car!........man make absolutely sure to keep up on the coolant condition and keep it fresh replace the coolant much sooner than Ford requires as replacing a heater core is a really big job! And not for the faint of heart!

    Original radios from 200-2004 were anti theft radios which requires the “u” shape radio tools. 2005-08 are held in by 4 7mm screws. Not sure from 09 onwards.

    same problem with mine. the hot and cold selector is starting to become hard to turn also along with the selector already breaking. i took it to a shop and he said it would be over 1k to fix due to having to take the dash apart? i’ve already tried to switch out the cable and nothing worked…. any ideas?

    Sometimes the AC will come on when you turn on defrost to pull moisture out of the air.

    My one is just sticky. I can only change it from defrost to eyelevels vents when the engine heater is hot. Looking at the underdah image I can see that the plastic cam arrangement is probably dry. I'll give it a lube and see if that helps. Thanks.

    Barry, my control works, turns on the dial and at the fan! But the air does not seem to be coming out at the vents, floor or window when I have it set on the dial at those positions. I had the dash out! Too replace the heater matrix. Do you know what I might have done when re- installing? It's pretty straight forward.

    So the box itself on my car seems to be in a bind and im afraid if i purcahse and replace the switch, it will just break again. Anyone have any suggestions?

    • @skip741x3
      @skip741x3 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes its the vent door inside the box that the cable and knob is trying to open and close... it sticks in the shut position and when the knob is forced, it breaks the cable or controller... replacing the cable doesnt really fix the issue.. the door has sticky on its edges, the result of a foam rubber thats melted with heat... thats why the door sticks in the full left or right position when turning the knob... the fix is to clean the edges of the door or at least spray some lubricant like silicone in there which will keep it from sticking shut.

      I know whats happend.. You have to clean and lubricate a manipulator(plastick "valve") which change direction of blowing insde of fan tunel. Its cuz of old gluing seal

    Just imagine fighting with all those plastic pieces in 40 years when someone for some reason might want to restore it... It would just crumble in your hands.

    Working on these new cars take a lot of patience and nimble/tiny hands. Just too much breakable plastic and tight spaces.

    You're do it wrong at the beginning. Don't go with the screwdriver before removing the radio and the screws
    Then use a plastic tool for the purpose
