You should make a video, “eating only items from my freezer for one week” 🙏🙏🙏 it would be interesting to see how you can use up all that stuff and would be a cool/fun challenge :)
You really should label and date items you are freezing, especially if consolidating multiple items from different times. Just because food is frozen does not mean it wont eventually go bad, and it doesnt kill foodborne pathogens, it only makes them go dormant. Also it would be a great idea to write down your freezer inventory to prevent overbuying repeats of items (I.e. blueberries) and also potential food waste.
Nikki... freezing everything doesn’t mean you’re upping your freezer game. Stuff goes bad, even in the freezer. Things get freezer burn. I honestly don’t think you really need a 3rd freezer, could probably cut down to 1...
rougedlips that’s what I was thinking. In my house we go to the grocery store every two weeks and stuff sometimes gets a little freezer burnt in that timespan
You need to use some of that food before you buy anymore ! Things can get freezer burned and then you'll have to throw it out. Now that it's all organized make a menu plan and use it up.
Thank you so much for collabing with me Nikki! I REALLY want to put a freezer in my garage too, and I'm actually purchasing a new refrigerator on Black Friday so this video is PERF for me. XOXO 🤗🌸💕
These amounts of food give me so much anxiety...how do you eat that much food (especially when you're only 2 people) before it all goes bad? Why keep shopping when you already have 47 bags of frozen blueberries? lol.
@@lisamariejo.7011 as an American, I can tell you my freezer is nowhere near this. It's almost always nearly empty, and when there is food in it, it ends up getting freezer burn, because we (2 people) don't eat it.
Coffee stores best in a sealed container, like a mason jar, in a dark place, such as a cabinet. It should never be stored in the freezer or the fridge. :) i have worked in a coffee roasting shop for years, and the owner has traveled the world learning about coffee.
Jordan is actually amazing and gives amazing advice about everything but especially freezing things! I freeze almost everything now bc I’ve been watching her for a long time and I can safely say that I’ve never had any mishaps with freezing things.. love Jordan💕
Great video! I understand you were in kind of a hurry to start getting things back in the freezer before it started thawing, but I have a suggestion. Go through and make a list of everything in all of your freezers. How many bags of which type of fruit. The same with the veggies. How many packages / pieces of which type of bread. You get the idea. Start doing your meal planning from your lists. Food, even in sealed bags, will get freezer burned if kept too long.
Great video Nikki! If you ever find you have too much for you and Dan, something to consider is donating to a local food pantry. I also keep my fridge, freezer and pantry STOCKED for just two people lolol but sometimes I find I can’t eat all of the food before it expires, so to prevent that I donate often to my local pantry. Just something to keep in mind! Happy thanksgiving to you and your family!
this is as honest as it gets. i recently went through my freezers and found so many extras of this and that - trying to be more aware of what i have in my freezer now. not sure if i want to take a literal inventory though. sounds like a lot of work... lol.
I love freezing soups in mason jars, that way each jar is a single serving. You can then pop the jar into the microwave whenever you need a quick meal! xx
NO NO NO. Food scientist here- if a bag is strangely filled with “air” like that was, DONT EAT IT. That probably isn’t air, but is a gas by product from microbial contamination. Please don’t eat that avocado, you might be ok but you might get really sick! Same goes for any packaging that is strangely filled with air after you know it was not puffy like that.
inna b Go to a agriculture school for a bachelors and masters in Food Science! It’s quite a bit of chemistry, but it’s definitely interesting! There is many different routes to take with food science, so the starting salary varies $40,000-$70,000 a year. Hope that helps!
Someone probably already said this, but its useful: 1) to freeze avacado, you need to mash them and THEN freeze them. We mash them and then add a little lemon/lime juice in it since we use it to make guac every time anyway and then put them in a freezer quart bag and lay them flat in the freezer to freeze up. 2) just in case you didn't know, the best way to freeze any meal is by laying them flat in the freezer bags. it makes them stackable and easier to fit in your freezer and the defrost is faster and more even since there is more surface area and finally 3) LABEL THINGS!! when you freeze things, you need to label them. just write the date in the corner in permanent parker (or pen if it won't stay) before you put them in the freezer, mainly the food that was fresh that you them froze. food meant for the freezer usually have the date on there, but like the kite hill, you're never going to remember the date you put it in and it doesn't stay fresh forever. its more helpful if you have multiple of the same item in 1 freezer to put older one in front/on top of the newer one to make sure its eaten first.
This is making me want to organize my freezer, but my freezer is so tiny and I actually don't have all that much freezer stuff to begin with because I recently just moved into an apartment this month and am kinda slow on organizing the apartment itself XD But this is definitely giving me the inspiration to get things done ASAP!
I froze raw peppers from my garden this year also. I haven’t tried them yet, but from my understanding it’s fine to do it that way. They might lose a little firmness but if you’re going to cook with them it shouldn’t matter. Also, invest in a vacuum sealer. It will completely change your freezer game! I love mine.
Can you do an informational video about freezing? How to freeze different types of foods and how to thaw? Also how long things are good for in the fridge, etc. Also how do you track what is already in your freezer?
Totally on my to do list! Organize freezers. Its ok to freeze your garden peppers and even tomatoes whole. I do it all the time if I don't feel like canning :)
You can freeze avocado for smoothies! I usually cut mine up and put it on a parchment lined baking sheet or plate and freeze it all flat so it doesn’t stick together! Makes your smoothies so creamy!
We recently found out my daughter is allergic to quite a few things milk being one of them. I needed cream cheese for a dish she loves for thanksgiving. 5 stores and two counties later I finally found some. Definitely sells out fast. I bought two glad to know one can be frozen.
I freeze garden peppers whole every year. I never process them but will de seed prior if I have the time. I throw them in my food chopper frozen to use in any cooked dishes like soups, stews, casseroles etc..
I would highly suggest a vacuum sealer. They will help keep everything fresher and less freezer burn then just ziploc bags, plus you can make them the size you need.
Where does it stop?! Lol 😂😳 You should do a video this year about cooking big dishes for friends and family and what you can bring to church or hosting a “Friendsgiving” or other party!
Hahahaha ya we freeze alottt. And especially lately! I’ve really been enjoying making food and saving it for later! I’ve been going on a bit of a freezing spree tbh haha
Growing up my parents always froze shredded cheese, specifically mozzarella and it always tasted absolutely fine! Sometimes they would just take it out handfuls at a time and using it immediately from frozen rather than waiting for the entire package to defrost!
Freezing shredded cheese works well. My dad worked for Kraft for years and they had a product buy where you could buy their products for cheap. He would buy a case of cheese and it would easily stay good in the freezer for a year. Now, I do it with whatever I find on sale. Another thing my family always froze was butter if we found decent sales on it. I'm adding more after reading the comments. Holy hell are some of you people rude. I personally would rather save money by buying food on sale and freezing it. Knowing when you have enough is the key and making sure you eat through it. I grew up with having the freezer on our kitchen fridge, a chest freezer, and a tiny freezer on top of our other refrigerator in our garage. They were almost always full, but we knew what was in each one. We had our yearly batch of chickens we'd buy from a friend, bag them ourselves, etc. That took up how much space. Any deer or elk from hunting, packaging that takes up how much space. Beef from my grandparents from their steers. All of those things take up how much space buuuuuut if you are organized and keep and eye on things, as well as planning ahead, you can avoid waste. Oh and I forgot all of the product buy foods from over the year from my dad working at Kraft. Oscar Meyer deli meats were often in our freezer. Shredded cheese. Just keep an inventory of what you have and use it accordingly. Also having a general idea of what meals you are hungry for also always helped so we'd plan accordingly.
I love love these vids. I’d also like more skin videos - procedure update (maybe a summary of procedures and how your skin is?). I’m curious as to how many micro needling treatments you have had in Nashville 💕💕💕💕
I have way too much in my freezer, and I have an apartment size freezer/fridge. I stock up especially in the winter weather. Sometimes I can't get out if there's ice.
Hi! To freeze avocados you need to fully pit them and scoop the flesh out. You can freeze them in cubes but I tend to freeze them in halves. I usually only freeze the ones that are about to go overripe. They are great in smoothies.
Typically enjoy your videos (esp the cleaning ones) but the amount of food in your freezers freaks me out. It is so ridiculously excessive. I'm nosy and am dying to know your grocery budget. We are a family of 4.5 (sometimes more when our teenage nephews stay) and we have a tiny freezer that is never full. Why? We buy only exactly what we plan to eat that week. I meal plan and keep shelf staples in one cupboard. No pantry, no extra freezer, etc. We, like you, eat mostly fresh foods so pantry and freezer space isn't necessary for us. Would really really enjoy a video where you plan and figure out how to use up the food in your storage spaces, or as Jordan Page calls it "Shelftember."
Freezing cheese is amazing! But you need to always use shredded cheeses. When you put a block of it in the freezer it gets super crumbly so you need to shred any cheese you have before you freeze it!
I’m all for freezing things before they go bad or freezing when you make double. It would really benefit you if you put dates on things you freeze. If it’s a ziplock bag then just right the date and contents with a permanent marker. When I freeze Tupperware I tape a sticky note on it and write date and contents. When you start freezing a lot of food it’s hard to remember what things are and how long they’ve been in the freezer. Also you should check out Jordan Page from FunCheepOrFree. She has AMAZING tips on using what you have BEFORE you go buy more. Mainly her Shelftember challenge. Check her out!!
The trader joes chimichurri rice is really good added into their black bean soup 🤤 add a little sour cream, even some chips for dipping. Sooo good. But don’t add cheese, it makes a stringy mess in it (sadly)
Tip for everyone: if you can find it in he freezer section at the store you can freeze it at home. Homemade Breakfast sandwiches. Any fruit and veggie. Basically anything honestly. You can also freeze milk!!
The Beyond Meat sweet italian sausages are the BEST! They taste exactly like a regular italian sausage even eating them plain and not covered in sauce or anything.
Man everybody's a critic! Girl, you do you! I totally understand the desire to stock up. It was cute to watch you get excited when you'd find a duplicate.
NikkiPhillippi yes!! I also love sprouts. You should go if you haven’t! One on Murfreesboro rd and one in Bellevue. It’s amazing. Such good prices for amazing quality food.
This is bad! U and Dan should cook those food and help the needy. Learn how not to buy too much food as they can get freezer burn as well. Buy only what u need in a month that way u don't overstocked. Seeing this video makes me want to cook all those and make pies to feed the homeless. In my household we buy what we need in a month and it all get eaten without letting it seat in the freezer for years and years.
You could make a list of EVERYTHING that you have in your freezers..... That way, you don't buy quintuple of stuff... I know that it's not a big deal because frozen foods obviously keep for ages but it just helps when you are out shopping if the list on your phone. :)
You should make a video, “eating only items from my freezer for one week” 🙏🙏🙏 it would be interesting to see how you can use up all that stuff and would be a cool/fun challenge :)
Omgggg... I could only do that if I mixed it with fresh food too! But that’s an interesting idea 🧐
I was going to say the same thing! Nikkis freezer meal prep challenge
Totally something I need to do too...
NikkiPhillippi than I would consider donating. Your over purchasing of fresh is what has stocked your freezers to this point I think.
I should clarify that I think eating fresh is ideal! But only buy what you will actually eat.
Good advice!
This is insane amount of food for just 2 people. I can’t get over that.
Seriously, this is like a family of 6 level freezer...and even that is a lot.
A C that is a lot of food

@@lisamariejo.7011 as an American, I can tell you my freezer is nowhere near this. It's almost always nearly empty, and when there is food in it, it ends up getting freezer burn, because we (2 people) don't eat it.
Nikki instead of buying frozen rice, I make big batches of rice in my rice cooker and freeze them in individual containers. saves plastic, and money!!
Good idea! I’ve been working on doing more stuff like that!
How long does it last? I like to buy rice for those busy days when I just need to put a quick dinner in the table. But I love your idea!
I love watching your videos!! Even having you on while i do house work it's just comforting!! Love you Nikki

Please do not buy any more food. This is disappointing to see. Challenge yourself to use all of these products before buying more.
Rachel Anne Curtis seriously! All the blueberry and fries she had in there was to much
This took me three sittings to watch (yay parenthood) but I was mesmerized! I think you’ve definitely inspired some smoothies today 💜
I love love LOVE these organization videos! I don’t know what it is, but they are so inspiring 😁
Lol I totally understand 😭
This is actual insanity.
I know hahahha
But are you surprised? Their whole house is packed with extra stuff. This is so crazy.

I haven’t seen a video like this yet. I love this type of video.
I loved this because it gave me several meal ideas!
Your videos are so relaxing and aesthetically pleasing💓💓💓
Love these videos! Something that’s helped me big time is using individual bins to group meat, frozen fruit etc. Makes finding what you need so easy 😁
LOVE THIS! I am getting a new fridge delivered on the 12th of December so this is giving me major organizational inspiration ❤️
I wouldnt go grocery shopping for months if I had this much food for 2 people

Phew, I thought I was a pack rat! And my place is tiny! This made me oddly feel better. Lol. Love you Nikki, thanks for bringing us along.
This literally looks like my families fridge but there are 5 of us. I sent this to my mom because we NEED to organize it all.
Wow.. thats alot of food. But nice amount for future meals. Great video.

Omg I have wayyyyy more than I need! But I eat a lot of food and am superrr thankful!🙌🏻
exactly... this seems like a family of 6 groceries... OMG

wow... you could live off of your freezer food for a year! You won't have to go grocery shopping for a while!
Hahahah and yet I still do!😩😭

The Whole Foods by us in Franklin has the best sourdough! I'm sure most if not all Whole Foods have a bakery! Soooooooo gooooddd! 😘
I have always freezed my shredded cheese and it works great!
Good to know!!!
I love love these vids. I’d also like more skin videos - procedure update (maybe a summary of procedures and how your skin is?). I’m curious as to how many micro needling treatments you have had in Nashville 💕💕💕💕
I have a tendency to just keep filling the freezer then forget whats in there and end up with doubles.Going to clean it out after seeing this.lol

You should film healthy holiday snack/meal ideas for each holiday you celebrate!
I have some coming soon!
Love it! I also enjoy Jordan’s video for organization, productivity and freezer stuff. Did you watch her laundry video?
I like keeping a list on the side of the freezer of items inside. It’s easy to forget everything inside.

I try to do an iventory of my (relatively tiny) freezer at least once a month and eat everything that's in there (make lots of smoothies etc.)
Freezing cheese is amazing! But you need to always use shredded cheeses. When you put a block of it in the freezer it gets super crumbly so you need to shred any cheese you have before you freeze it!

I have 4 avocados in my fridge and I was literally pondering if I could freeze them or not! what a coincidence lol
Apparently you have to
Remove the pit and scrape out the skin! At least that’s what people are telling me!
NikkiPhillippi well good to know lemme know if it works for you :)

Buy only what u need in a month that way u don't overstocked.
Seeing this video makes me want to cook all those and make pies to feed the homeless.
In my household we buy what we need in a month and it all get eaten without letting it seat in the freezer for years and years.
I love your cooking videos also!
Thanks! I definitely have a couple coming up soon for the holidays!
Love your videos 💖
Thanks home slice!
You could make a list of EVERYTHING that you have in your freezers..... That way, you don't buy quintuple of stuff... I know that it's not a big deal because frozen foods obviously keep for ages but it just helps when you are out shopping if the list on your phone. :)
Totallyyyyy! That’s a great idea!
