I suggest to lose the rings. I don't need a flashlight since my phone has one so that's the same reason you say you don't need a compass. I don't need a can opener or bottle opener. I use the SAK Bantam that's just one layer and has a knife and a screwdriver multitool that also acts like a pry bar (and tweezers and toothpick). So now I don't need the separate pry bar. You can however get an SAK that also has a pen in there. I do however carry cash in my wallet and not just plastic. My keyring has one key but the keyring itself is also a glas breaker.
Vext is the best wallet that I have found, I have the carbon fiber one, holds up to 9 cards, it is small, light, and very fast. I have had it for 3 years, no sign of wear and I have not seen a wallet that comes close to it.
Carbocage keyholder, Nextool mini flaghip multitool, Tiremet TC4 toothpick, small titanium tweezers, Kingston HyperX Savage usb drive, Lumintop edc01 flashlight, Keysmart magconnect magnet (not used as a tether, just as a magnet), all held together with Flytanium titanium split rings and TEC Accessories Stainless Steel Python Clips (allowing any item to be removed and used individually). Vext wallet. Planning on adding an Exotac nanospark soon.
You can get a compass like yours which attaches to watch strap , my husband has one . And it is very useful , like the idea of slimming down what you carry though 👍
I got no love for Prybars. The driver/ stripper/ opener on the SAK is more effective and I've used it hard with no wobble over the years. And imo, i've used my zippo for a "flashlight" more than the flashlight on my phone tbh. So ultimately Phone, Wallet, Keys, SAK and Zippo is the ultimate minimalist carry for me. But as I think everyone states in these types of vids, you carry what works best for you
Yes, couldn't agree more. Everybody's EDC is individual to them. You could reflect on your EDC and check these 3 points and still find it's perfect and doesn't need to change
I always keep a griffin pocket tool on my keys and a victorninox rambler or mini champ and fisher space pen in my fifth pocket of my jeans I don’t use them very often but when ever I don’t have them on me I always always always need to use them
I gotcha brother. But what’s wrong with a bulky carry? It’s all a hobby and I come from a very prepared mindset in the army. Please educate me on why I need a 15mm thin wallet and a tiny knife
Absolutely nothing wrong with a bulky carry at all. If you go through your carry and it's at its minium for what you need, you still might find you can organise it slightly for ease and efficiency, or maybe even simplify it slightly. The beauty of EDC is it's 100% individual to you and your circumstances. One man's "wow, that's a lot" is another man's "oh shoot, that's spot on" 🤙
One day you will realize that slim wallets, tiny knives, and the “minimal” carry is just a trend in the EDC community. Just because it’s fashionable, doesn’t mean it’s appropriate for all situations. Minimizing your carry actually makes you less prepared. Go interview a marine, a member of the Royal Air Force, or even a Boy Scout. Get some real world insight before making clueless and nonsensical videos again.
Core principles for me - write, light and slice. Tend to use them most to least in that order tbh. Occasionally chuck a lighter in for balance across all four pants pockets.
EDC - what a concept! One that demonstrates just how diverse different peoples' needs are. So, here are a few comments: I have "carried" for the last 50 years or so, and have always "kept it simple". In later years I found that in my job I had developed more needs, so my "carry" had to grow somewhat. Then more recently it began to shrink again. Firstly, the "light" component. The modern city person invariably carries a smart phone of some sort, which of course has a very good torch function! That would be the first minimise item. There is just NO need to carry another torch. I have always detested having a heavy object (eg a folder) lurking in the bottom of my trouser pocket! So, I tried carrying the smallest, thinnest folder I could find. But it wasn't very functional. Then I discovered my first Swiss Army Knife (SAK) and that changed a lot. It had that now ubiquitous ring function. I made myself a very simple leather loop with a steel snap hook which I hooked into the knife's ring. The loop went over my trouser belt and hey presto the knife was still in my pocket, without me even being aware of the weight at all! This changed everything, as now I could carry quite a large tool without discomfort, and was easy to unhook.. I eventually settled on one of the 4-layer models and have been wearing that ever since. Cards: I always had an issue with wallets, but in those early years we had no cards, so had to carry cash and coins. Then cards came and coins/cash left. Nowadays even cards are very seldom used, as banking apps on phones are the predominant means of transacting. What I now do is carry two cards in the back of my phone cover for emergencies, and that serves me well. However, I'm an old geazer with fewer needs than before. At one time I was a Supervisor in a large firm's Stationery and Printing dept and found that I often needed some tools in the warehouse, print shop or just in the office. So I started carrying my Leatherman Wave in a belt pouch, mainly because of the pliers, which for some reason I found I used quite a lot. With my SAK this provided quite a lot of tools and worked very well. Write: now this is an interesting one. I've always had the habit of buying shirts with a shirt pocket (or two), so there was ample space for a pen, or two, or three, or ........ and a little note pad! My son is constantly on my case to ditch all that and use the phone for that purpose. Good point, but that is a step too far for me, so I just carry the old stuff, as it suits my style. As you can see I don't really carry much, and here in the UK one has to be VERY careful what you carry, and where. I hope you find this lightly amusing, and maybe some viewer out there might find it useful. Cheers mate!
@@MoorlanderEDC Yep, doing well thanks. Don't get out much these days, but enjoy what you young shavers do on TH-cam. Some of the old tricks are still quite good, but I enjoy the new innovations a lot. Keep up the good work!
I know they've been a staple edc carry for quite a while now, but I've never understood prybars. I seldom, if ever, get things shipped to me in a crate.
I have some pry bar content scheduled for the new year. There was a period I could carry a knife at work so carried a wee prybar and it would do 90% of things a knife would do. I appreciate they're not for everybody though
@@MoorlanderEDC Yes, I keep forgetting the UK knife laws etc. I guess a pry bar could be used for more than just prying. I can see it being a reasonably effective tape cutter when opening boxes.
I have found that a mini pry bar always seems to be part of a multi step project where I have to fetch additional tools. I now keep my pry bar with these additional tools and free my pockets of this burden. I seem to break my credit cards when working so I prefer a hard case for protection and keeping the wallet size consistent. I keep my cash separate to avoid a lose it all situation. My Thrunite Neutron 2C flashlight has become a real buddy to me from preventing tripping over my dog in the middle of the night to retrieving the next bolt or screw that always seems to roll under the nearest workbench or vehicle. I also use it as a pointer to identify stock to others that is stored on higher shelving. My eyesight is not what it once was. Habit seems to dictate what we carry so it is good for all of us to review on occasion. This is how we evolve.
I would love to see a comparison of minimalist hip packs/bum bags - things like runners hip packs/Vertx covert Clutch tactical belts etc the sort of thing you can pack a minimalist EDC like you have here. I have a vertx covert runners belt (I think they call it that, it’s now out of production) but it has 2 AR sized mag pouches and a pistol mag sized pouch with hypolon molle and it fits flat under your shirt. I find it great for a knife, torch, phone and wallet with room for other stuff - best thing is you can wear it with anything so your edc always stays in the same place 👌🏻
Nice video, ive been through a similar process over the last couple of years. EDC carries are super personal and everyone carries some stuff that others don't need. For instance I don't use a super minimalist wallet because I like to carry a few items that are useful for me. So my wallet is still quite small but enables me to carry the 4/5 cards I need, an enclosed space to keep cash because I don't like the cash band thing on the outside of a minimalist wallet, and this is where is gets more specific to me... i have 2 small children so my wallet also has a couple of plasters, a couple of wound cleaning wipes, a small pack of steri strips, a tick remover and a face shield for CPR (hope I never need it but they're tiny and I have the appropriate training to be helpful). Most of that stuff doesn't get used daily but is very useful when you do need it. In my other pocket I currently have in an organiser the olight perun mini 2, a victorinox compact a kaweco lilliput ballpoint pen and a small notebook. That pocket gets used every day. My 6 year old has often offered me to help in various scenarios because she knows I have in my pocket a knife, scissors, tweezers, bottle opener, pen, plasters etc etc ...
i had children thirty years ago, but I think the Travel John and Travel Jane are a game-changer with small children. it's a small folded bag with nappy absorbents and a firm plastic plug at the top to cover your modesty. they must be available in children's editions now. of course, the Travel Jane is just the same product painted pink.
As you get older you carry more in your pocket. Such as a pill container. I converted a CR123 battery holder from Country Comm for that. Also carry Butt Wipes. Never know when you will need them, but when you do, you do 😊.
Very nice video, thanks! I have about the same things with me, but i added a "Knipex Cobra XS". They are (for me) just the best pliers and i really use them pretty often. But most of the time i use my Victorinox 58 mm (scissors!), that i carry on my keychain. 🙂 What is really annoying is the car key, just a giant "thing" i have to carry with me. But i will replace it with a normal key, that helps a lot, i think.
Yep, I'm old enough to remember when car keys were simple keys. No remote central locking. Just a key with a plastic tap. Those were the day... Way Ness to go wrong 🤙
@06:43 Why don't you slip the pen through the loops at the top? Or even just double up with the olight? The bulk of the tools in the front slots makes a little slot in the back, too.
