  • This video is the sequel to our previous video where we removed the fuel strip from 2008 BMW R1200GS Adventure and replace it with a float of a later year R1200GSA. In this video we will do some kilometers with our bike and test the float.

    I installed it too in my 2008 GSA , it worked better than it is presented in this movie, nevertheless it has one problem - a range. It is showing very optimistic figures like the full tank range would be around 800km. I think it still worth of buying as is way more durable comparing to the original strip but I can't really say it works perfect. My rating 8/10.

    Thanks. Very interesting. I've same issue with 2012 gs adv. I will be looking at converting.

    Thank you so much for making this video! I watched both parts and it is really interesting! I just bought an 09 R1200RT that has this issue and I’m debating on trying the float or replacing the original strip. Are you satisfied with how the float is working now?

    Maybe Try turning off the fuel calibration option in the motoscan app. I literally just did this to my bike. Iv only took it for a 2 mile spin after. With maybe a gallon of fuel in it. Tomorrow I’ll go fill it. But I’m going to assume I’m going to have these same issue.

    I bought the FC1 from Proebeemer and a float more than a year ago, and now plan to do the install, since I have finally read all the threads online and watched the vids. It's clear that there are issues with the float in this application. I suspect that some of the inaccuracies and variation is due to the float itself. It may be hanging up on the inside of the tank or the hoses in the tank. My other thought is that the BMW design where fuel is pumped across to the opposite side of the tank at a certain level (suction driven pump). When this happens maybe the float moves and throws off the fuel level reading. My decision is to go ahead with the install replacing the strip which fails repeatedly. Even with the strip working it always lagged for the first half of the tank. There seems to be no great solution, just less bad solutions. I choose to do the float and play with the hoses and float wire shape to try and make it work better. Thanks to all who beat their heads against the wall making this happen so far.....

    Hey guys. I swapped the tape for the float on my 2009 GS Adv. I changed the pins on the ECU connectors and changed the programming via motoscan. And even then the reading is not correct. Autonomy went to 700km, and almost never indicates below 1/4 of the tank. I've tried everything. All that remains is to update the motorcycle's ZFE programming.

    Is this still jumpy after half tank? Wonder if you ever found a final solution. Thanks!

    I bought a 2007 GSA with less that 10,000 kms on the clock, picked it up and the fuel wasn’t working (showing 4 bars even when close to empty or completely full... I took the stop out, carefully cleaned it with injector cleaner and used the GS911 tool to calibrate it. Worked for a few tanks then I put the bike in storage empty. Left it untouched for 2 years, just filled it up and got riding again, fuel strip still going good. So I wonder if it is possible that the fuel strips don’t like being left for long periods with fuel in the tank (do they get dirty?) just a thought. Maybe someone who rides all the time can tell us if their strip keeps working?

      It's mostly the fuel I think, the ethanol in modern fuel erodes the fuel strip.

    My fuel strip has broken 3 weeks ago. I have installed a few cheap resistors to the connector of the fueltank so that the display doesn't show "fuel" anymore (including the yellow warning light). I also bought a 1,5liter fuel jerrycan. I'm driving on the trip counter now but that is also not a good solution.. I saw the competitor (HPoskam) has stopped production of his fuel strip solution. Calibration needed at the BMW dealer for your solution?

      If it still has problems you can let it calibrate at the BMW dealer

    I am considering doing this swap on my 07 GS, I have high hopes for a permanent fix but your results are not very optimistic...

      Did you see part 2 of the video? Basically it works fine untill half a tank, after that it becomes 'jumpy'. Your results might be different than mine. Good luck. Let me know your results.

    Mine is a 2007 GSA and the strip just failed and shows fuel warning and no range (With full tank of gas). This float replacement seems to not work well since it is not showing you an accurate level of how much gas is remaining. So why even do it ? I mean my not working fuel strip does the same thing (Not showing an accurate fuel level), so why go through the hassle of replacing it with something else that doesn't work ?? Am I missing something here ?? Has the float became accurate over time ? (I don't see how that would be possible).

    • @chriseng2970
      @chriseng2970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems better than the alternative. To pay big $ for a replacement strip that will soon fail again. I'm on my 3rd strip at $450 per strip installed.

    • @AB-hx9hs
      @AB-hx9hs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chriseng2970 Perhaps you missed my point which was: The Fuel float replacement is NOT showing accurate Gas level, so you really don't know how much gas there is in the tank. My broken fuel strip is doing the same thing (Not showing me an accurate fuel level) and I basically have to keep track of the miles traveled when I do a fill up in order to know how much gas is remaining. So why go to the trouble of replacing a non working fuel strip with a non working fuel float ? I simply don't see the point.....if the float is not accurate & not showing the fuel level then why have it ?

    Hi, I bought my 2007 GS in 2012 in Phuket, Thailand. Whilst I still like the bike it has been the most unreliable piece of s**t ever. I think I am on my third fuel strip AND I am on my THIRD fuel pump!!!! The pumps keep failing, splitting at connection. Not easy to get BMW to pay for it, the "band aid" fix they did (small alluminium ring around the connection) still fails. After nearly 3 years of Covid (did not use the bike as I could not get back to Thailand) I got back to Phuket. My Honda Wave started on the second kick...the GS??? Of vourse not!!!! Took out the pump and the electric motor had RUSTED DEAD!!!! lucky me, I had an old pump with a good motor and my trusted 20 plus years experience mechanic did the swap and vroom vroom the GS started!!! He also sid the connection was "sweating" meaning this 3rd effing pump is on its way out. Just in passing, for general interest, I'll mention the following: rust on engine casing and petrol cap, a number og tyre pressure sensors, the key contactor, front shock leaking at 30k kms, a NEW ECU (yes, that failed too and BMW did not want to hear about it, it was not easy either to get them to replace the pumps free). Also, they will not do maintenance on spoke wheels...BUT...they will sell you new ones with 20% discount!!!! I am sure I forgot a few "things", apart from that I still like the way she rides...oh I just forgot, I just had the balancer seal fail, split the bike, 12 hours work!!!! Just saying...
