Wayne Goss still does a lot of technique videos, so we still have at least one other creator giving that kind of current content. A lot of his videos are super short and to the point. That's especially nice when you're just wanting a rundown of how to do a thing with a little background of the why it works.

Your technique tutorials have helped me turn my life around. I have psoriasis and rosacea, as well as social anxiety and depression, and my confidence was through the floor. I wasn't socialising at all even pre-pandemic, and I was so lonely. I'm not in work due to chronic illness and I rarely left my house or interacted with anybody. I'm not going to claim learning makeup techniques sole-handedly transformed my life, but it was absolutely instrumental in getting me back out into the world, which was the first & hardest step in my recovery. I'm not completely better, I still struggle with anxiety and self esteem, but I no longer hide in my room. I've started volunteering, I have weekly therapy and I'm just starting to develop a social life. It's not just the confidence that makeup gives when it comes to my appearance, it's also the satisfaction of learning and mastering new skills. I can't begin to tell you how rewarding that has been, after such a long period out of work! I'm currently applying to do a master's in Public Health (I'm a doctor) and am planning to begin a career in that field, something that was unimaginable a few years back when I was forced to give up my career due to illness. I think you missed your calling as a story reader! You speak perfectly and I think you should just read to us all beautiful and peacefully!! We’ll be waiting!
Having had severe cystic acne for 20 plus years I've had an awful time with foundation. I'll try this technique. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise 😊
Instead of foundation, I prefer cream concealer (Bye Bye Undereye by IT Cosmetics) and John's stippling method. Then I spot treat anything that shows through...using a lighter concealer to camouflage dark spots and a darker concealer for lighter spots...until everything is even. Since concealer is highly pigmented, I need less product than a foundation, so it gives a more natural look. Good luck.
I feel you girl. I used to have cystic acne as well and even though it's cleared now, it has left me with acne scarring and pits. nothing ever looks good 😩
OMG John, this video makes sense of all the stippling and buffing jargon I see in the industry. My mother (God rest her soul) was first a model, and later a makeup artist. She would've decoded all of this for me. Instead, I have you. Praise all that is good, and thank you! Your advice is priceless.
I’ve always loved that you use brushes to apply your products. Sponges are nice because they’re user friendly for inexperienced makeup wearers, but I think brushes can accomplish so much that a sponge just can’t!
I find JM's videos to be therapeutic in their effect. Listening to an expert and professional committed to excellence and perfection is most satisfying.
so glad to see you back on TH-cam, and loved the way you explained and demonstrated this. "And you really can see everything in these magnified mirrors, you can see the devil himself in these mirrors." 🤣🤣🤣Well, it's what I look for in my magnified mirror most days 🤣.

Like an alabaster statue. By the way when you said you shave against the grain, i let out an audible gasp. You are a rockstar! I could never!
This video changed my life. I've watched a lot of MUAs on TH-cam. I couldn't get liquid foundation to work on my skin, sponges or brushes or fingers, powder or no powder - it would just crack and curdle on my face or show up my pores as white dots. Now I use these techniques and it doesn't matter if I use a £5 liquid foundation or a £40 one - it looks amazing.
Ah, tis but an honor to be blessed by a film of yours lord Maclean. Thank you for once again educating us mere mortals with your infinite knowledge of beauty.
Im so so SOOOO excited that you are posting new videos! I literally exclaimed with boundless joy, "YAAAAAY JOHN IS BACK!!" Also, I introduced my mother to your videos and she was so pleased to see someone "stipple" and pat their product into place just as she does. She damn near fell over. My whole entire life she has stippled it into my head...."pat in an upwards motion! Dont pull your skin down!! EVER!!!!" Today was the first day of the rest of my mothers life. The validation she feels is palpable...and mildly obnoxious. But what can you do? Great vid! Can't wait for more!

Hello ageless being of supreme beauty! Thank you for explaining why you use certain products and methods. Its always a joy to watch your fillums and see you work your magic!
Lol ' With these very magnified mirrors you can see the Devil himself in these mirrors"... that made me laugh so hard because I feel the same way. Always ends up with flawless looking skin no matter what... beautiful!! Thank You for this tutorial. I did find it helpful because I do have a scar on both sides of my nose from stitches. Also pores that are very noticeable in the T zone.
This is the best explanation of putting on makeup that I have ever seen and heard - thank you!!! I have mature skin and have finer lines - I look young for being 49!
You are such a genius! Unfortunately though I have extremely dry skin therefore I cannot use buffing techniques (causes my skin to crack from the friction). If anyone else has similar skin, what I find works best for me is a cushion foundation. Because the applicator is flat and flexible, I find I have more room to get into crevices since it moves with your face and fingers. Also, most formulas for cushion foundation are quite watery so they're easier to blend and 'fill' pores with ease instead of sitting on top like a cream.
You are a great teacher of makeup & your voice is addictive to listen to, I have learnt so much from your vlogs, with humour relaxes the listener , thank you 😊🇬🇧xxxx

For eye makeup an eye primer is a must! I also have oily skin and lids and just using powder or concealer makes the eyeshadow crease or fade unfortunately. I really like the urban decay eyeshadow primer! You need to look for an eyeshadow primer without oils (concealers usually have oils for hydration)
@Mara Loeters thanks for the tip! I have been using eye primers exclusively on the eyes, the one that has kinda worked for me is the makeup revolution cut crease canvas used as primer. I'll have to give the UD one a try 😊 Do you set your eye primer usually or do you go straight in with your shadow? I can't tell if setting the primer makes any difference in terms of longevity
@@MagdaaAnna I set it lightly with powder and then I go in with eyeshadow but I’m someone who likes a more washed out look and not very strong/pigmented so maybe then it’s best to go in directly with eyeshadow? But for longevity I wouldn’t know sorry! I hope you find something that works for you!! I know how annoying that can feel
I'm not even necessarily interested in hiding my pores, but gods your voice and vocal cadence is just so lovely and soothing to listen to. I was having a bit of a panic attack and needed something to watch/listen to to just bring my brain down and focus on something, and I'm so thankful your video popped up on my feed, I think I was able to get my brain and body to relax almost immediately. It's been a hot minute since I've watched one of your videos, but I needed this lol. I appreciate you and your chanel so much
Yes, it is effective to buff ,and then stipple my foundation. You have taught your students well. I have old cystic acne scars on my jawline and have struggled with application. Then I tried this technique and was pleasantly surprised, especially with setting the powder lightly. Thank you for your Knowledge and expertise😄😍
the school of thought of thinking you cannot achieve a flawless look except on camera is definitely something that i understand- for MANY people this is not easily achieved, and so it isnt achieved. For them, it is impossible. But its not impossible in general. I put on makeup 2 or 3 times a year. Usually, its for halloween. I achieve a flawless foundation. People tell me i look like a porcelain doll in person. I do this in a very strange and unforgiving way, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, it depends on how my skin feels that day/ if it seeks revenge on me for not drinking water 365 days a year. I put on a moisturizer to pretend that i can fix my problems from the outside, and that usually ruins the texture of my skin for the rest of the day. I then exfoliate it all off because i hate myself, and then i use a moisturizing facemask instead. Then after waiting a long time for it to soak into my skin completely, I go in with a primer, and then wait for that to soak in. Then I put on my foundation- i dont use concealer underneath. I put a good full coverage foundation on that blends perfectly with my skin, and then i wait for it to naturally set a bit. i dont want to blend any of my products INTO my foundation, i want it to sit on top. I think a lot of people get texture from overworking their foundation by brushing or stippling so much on top of it when its still wet/movable. Then, i go in with my concealer, and the more close to your skin it is, the more natural and effortless it will be to use. people get obsessed with highlighting 6 or 7 shades above their skin tone. You dont need to! I cover my undereyes and around my mouth and nose, and i am sure to pat a damp beauty blender so that it is diffused and moist when it goes on, to avoid texture. And i BAKE. MY ENTIRE. FACE. With only a light dust of powder on most of it, the heaviest at my undereye. I wait a good long time, and then sweep it off with a big fluffy brush. I use powder blush and a cooler bronzer to give a tiny bit of contour and thats it. On a bad day my makeup looks so cakey, but thats my fault for being drier than a well in hell. Some problems, uh, makeup cant fix. But on a good day i feel ready to conquer earth, so you know. The whole process takes well over an hour.
Your skin is so radiant which tells me you take care of your skin and definitely you stay out of the sun. I love listening to you talk , you should really do an audible story , any story and I will listen.
If you use the buffing and stippling method please take some time to clean it off at the end of the day. With a cleanser not wipes as it won’t reach into the pores. And massage for a bit!
Just did my makeup now following your tips, I tabbed my face with a cloth after applying the powder and my makeup looked flawless and not cakey even though I used the Maybelline fit me powder which usually gets cakey on me BRILLIANT 💖

I've also noticed in his more recent content a bit more... warmth, I suppose, and confidence? Like he's a bit more relaxed. In any case, it's nice to see. 💙
I've always avoided wearing liquid or powder foundation due to my large pores and skin texture. With this technique, hopefully it'll help me become more confident in my foundation application skills. Thank you, oh Ageless One!

Just did my makeup now following your tips, I tabbed my face with a cloth after applying the powder and my makeup looked flawless and not cakey even though I used the Maybelline fit me powder which usually gets cakey on me
BRILLIANT 💖

Your techniques are wonderful! On a side note, I could listen to you talk about anything all day long. You just sound so elegant and sophisticated.
Welcome back, Lord. You are as seamless as ever!
I really appreciate that he explains not just why he does what he does, but why he doesn't use some other techniques that may otherwise be popular. I've also noticed in his more recent content a bit more... warmth, I suppose, and confidence? Like he's a bit more relaxed. In any case, it's nice to see. 💙
A perfectly explained lesson in flawless Makeup Techniques ...and English.
I love seeing your videos because you really explain it very well and your personality… literally an icon
No one above. Lord McLean the Queen, is marvellously EPIC🔥 Much love from Norway 🇧🇻💝
M'Lord, I appreciate this tutorial. ❤
I've always avoided wearing liquid or powder foundation due to my large pores and skin texture. With this technique, hopefully it'll help me become more confident in my foundation application skills. Thank you, oh Ageless One!
