    The thing about projects like this is the confidence you get. When I bout my 530i, I used to take to BMW for all sorts of things including lights. But I started tinkering... I found most things aren't hard to do yourself. Thanks.

      They aren't you've just to get started and work it out along the way, I mainly worked on motorbikes but on my E60 so far I've replaced exhaust manifold, brakes all round and just fitted a new ac compressor and condensor

      It's crazy My E61 is also the same colour and I've had almost exatly the same issues too even down to that damn rear wiper part snapping when trying to fix it. So useful having these videos not only to help fix the issues, but also peace of mind that I'm not the only one. 🤣

    Your videos really are very good. In my old e61 I went through more run flats with ‘eggs’ in the sidewall from hitting potholes here in the UK and nails in treads than actually wearing the tyres out. Do you carry a spare, or foam instead of the run flats? Other jobs I found fun were: changing the light bulbs which was a whole light unit out job; panoramic roof drains and rear door drain holes unblocking; pano roof seal replacement; diversity antenna replacement; high level brake light replacement.... all easy things you could do in future videos.

    • @andljoy
      @andljoy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Done correctly the weld SHOULD be stronger than the original metal, but it depends how good your welder and his kit is. If the weld penetrates all the way to the outer surface your going to have to grind it back and restore the wheel anyway so i agree welding it is not a good choice on such a wheel.

    this video is fantastic honestly. I'm looking at swapping out my ol' faithful 2001 e46 320i and getting a 525 or 530d e61. These m57 engines are absolutely bullet proof, and I'd have an e39 but apparently the M57 peak torque destroys the auto zf 5hp boxes, so an e61 with a zf 6hp is a must for this reason

    Not sure how wide those m sport wheels are but on my e91 which shares engines with yours has 8J wheels on the front an 8.5J on the rear.
    The J is basically the width of the wheel in inches. An 8J wheel fits ideally 225-235 tyres but you can have as little as a 215 and as big as a 245 on it. Hence mine comes as standard with 225 on the front and 255 on the rears. Say that yours has 8.5J wheels all round and 245 tyres to go with you can still safely fit 255s. Reason the previous owner might have done it is to get more grip out of the drive tyres.

  • @ScottPC

    Hi there,
    Question: Don't understand why you say the rear wheel and tyre setup is 8mm taller?
    Could you explain.

    • @RoadandRacetv
      @RoadandRacetv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sure. 255 is the width of the tyre. 40 is the ratio of the width of the side wall. 255/40 is wider and taller than 245/40.

      The right tire for the e60 in the rear would be 275/35 R18

    How does it drive after the gearbox service? I had a 535d. Keep an eye on the tailgate wiring and the vacuum hoses

      Drives the same to be fair, but it was fine to begin with.

    i wonder how much money you could have saved by making the brake lines yourself with earl's\goodridge\etc fittings and hoses, it's quite easy and simple.

    Chances are one of the previous owners decided to go for a wider tyre on the rear thinking the wheels were staggered sizes.

      @@sirjitbath392 yeah spyders are staggered. They were an option on most of the other engine size M Sports I think. I have been tempted to make the change to them but the cracking id far too common. If I did I think I'd go for copies and maybe have a chance of them lasting longer.
