  • A "bower" is the name of the short-term love nest of the great bowerbird, a species found in Australia and New Guinea. Built by males, its only function is to attract females for mating. Each bower is unique to its creator and the elaborate structure is often embellished with bright colored objects. Stones, bones, snail shells but also plastic objects like bottle caps.

    The young male starting his bower will be his life long project. It’s interesting to see how they start learning their skills.

    I see great bowerbirds a lot. Funny and creative birds. Once I saw them put a little draw string bag in their bower

    “But these birds can’t see colors”
    0_o What? Really? The trinkets are sorted perfectly by color in that nest!

      I don't understand... they can see the colors or not?

    • @Tioko
      @Tioko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@vikaruggieri931 Apparently not, according to the video. I guess the different shades of grey are enough for the birds to color-code the nest anyway...

      They've probably got some limited degree of colour recognition Like how dogs can't see as well as we can.

      They see color just fine, their vision and color variation skills are greater than a human. Just look at the colors in their design of the bower that wouldn’t be possible without excellent color vision

    I thought birds could see color because a bower bird had arranged his treasures in color mode, piles of blue was separated from piles of red, etc.
