Steve, if you can somehow read this from the great beyond, know that I and so many other engineers, asipring and professional, looked up to you more than words can say. You were way too young to go but the work you did while you were here was incredible and so valuable to the underground music scene. Thank you for assisting so many artists with capturing their creative vision and preserving your methodology in videos like the ones on this channel so that others can continue what you upheld.

So basically they are adjusting the bias voltage to the O/P tube by lifting the cathode resistor away from ground. This is how a tremolo circuit works except as an oscillator. Also the AGC ( Automatic Gain Control) circuit in an old radio works the same way where the output is rectified, smoothed and fed back to the bias of the preamp to lower the output volume. The pan circuit is something I built years ago but never found anyone interested in it. You can have a clean channel and a dirty channel and use the pot to add harmonics to the clean channel to get the distortion effect you want.

I first saw Samamp Amps at the 2009 Nashville Amp Expo. Back then, there were a lot fewer options for playing a loud amp at quiet levels. Since I had a degree in Electrical Engineering, I was fascinated by his use of common appliance bulbs to reduce power. A few months later, I got a VAC 23, which was perfect for my setup in a small 12x12 room in my basement. The 3-watt setting sounded glorious and was quiet enough that my voice could still be heard loud and clear in my headset mic. Two years later, I saw the VAC 40 Series II at the 2011 Amp Expo, and that amp became my go-to for many years. To date, it is still one of the best-sounding amps I own. Sam Timberlake is a genius.

It started with Big Black and then I discovered Urge Overkill, The Pixies, The Jesus Lizard, The Breeders, PJ Harvey and on and on etc., etc. If you were a friend or especially, family member, know that his artistry has and will continue to impact music for generations. Yea I guess I'll jump on this wagon and comment. In a world of esoteric cheese balls there stands Mr Albini, sword in hand against them for the benefit of we . I have always being a student of music, performing and recording, and have always Steve Albini since I learned about him ten or fifteen years ago. His integrity, to me, seems unmatched and unchallenged and he has being a priceless inspiration. I hope his family will recover from this loss. Who ever you people who are his family please take condolence in knowing that there are people in this world who don't know you at all but are shedding a tear for you because you have lost a man who was (as it seems to me) obviously, authentic. I am sorry for your loss. And sorry for your maybe, sometimes, resenting the time it took for him to maintain his craft and his passion. I hope you were involved. I hope you come onto this channel and tell your story. Love, sincerely, Todd.

I'm gonna miss this guy. I may only ever have met him through speakers and videos like this one, but man was he an inspiration. So difficult to understand that less than a week after this video went up he was no longer among us.
The music lives on. RIP Steve. You were real. Real real.

RIP Steve... You gave me a lot of inspiration to become an audio engineer, and I really-really (!) want to thank you for giving me a new meaning to my life... for helping me to understand my true path... for helping me to find my true passion that I want to go after my whole life. Thank you for your art, from classics like Big Black and Shellac, to obscurities like R@$&man and Run N!*$%r Run. You are a true hero for me, even though we never met in life. Thank you Steve, покойся с миром брат.

I was watching this video with my breakfast this morning, it was great just to nerd out and see other people having fun with some cool gear.
Super sad to hear about Steve's passing, true legend and a massive inspiration.
