Nonsens. Były znacznie ważniejsze bitwy w historii o których dzisiaj mało kto pamięta-- poza grupą specjalistów.
Bitwa przypomniana i rozreklamowana w XIX wieku - epoce romantyzmu i nacjonalizmu.

      @hillary ilinsky

Aside from that, this was a good video, cant wait till the next one.

    ROME'S REVENGE
The battle of Idistaviso was the revenge of the Roman Empire against the Germans, after the defeat suffered by Varus, in 9 AD, in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which gave the world the certainty that the Romans could not be attacked with impunity, and that sooner or later every offense would be repaid with a greater offense.
The concept was very important because if one emerged unpunished from such a ferocious aggression, which was also based on betrayal, as was the battle of Teutoburg, the subject peoples could try to emulate Arminius' army.
In 16 AD one of the greatest generals in Roman history, the very young imperial legate Germanicus, did what the Romans had not yet managed to do for 7 years: he managed to beat Arminius in two great battles: the first in the plain of Idistaviso, the second in front of the Angrivarian Wall, both between the right bank of the Visurgi (Weser) river, the surrounding hills, the large Germanic forest and the marshes further north.
The Roman victory was clear, without major losses for the Romans. The fighting fought continuously from eleven in the morning until night, while the slain German enemies covered the plain with their corpses and weapons for at least ten thousand paces. Finally, among the remains, amazingly, chains were also found to bind the Roman prisoners, confident as the Germans were of being able to renew the victory of Teutoburg. Germanicus' soldiers, on the battlefield, acclaimed their general Germanicus but also Tiberius Imperator and raised a mound on which they placed the weapons of the vanquished, as if it were a trophy, and an inscription bearing the names of the vanquished peoples: the Cherusci, the Fosi, the Dulgubins, the Lombards and others. Rome was avenged!

The march was probably difficult. There was only path, rarely open terrain. The marching columns widely dispersed and slow in movement. Long uncovered flanks, very bad weather and continuous skirmishes weakened the Romans. Once the Romans were in retreat, they were routed and probably all killed. To this day, the location of the battle is not clear! Basically, the battle route was very long and ran in the area of the Wiehengebirge. The total loss of 3 legions plus escort was so serious that further conquests were refrained from.

Let’s get it right … Arminius did NOT betray his Roman brethren … he was Cheruscki German and was taken ( along with his brother Germanicus ) as tribute (aka: slave) back to Rome as a child … he was never ACCEPTED as a Roman because of his germanic heritage although he bided his time and learned all the Roman military ways and through perseverance he made it to a position of authority and “trust” … the Roman propaganda did NOT work on Hermann the German (Arminius) … however, his younger brother Germanicus drank the Roman “Kool-Aid” and kinda sorta became an honorary Roman !!!

It is a big mistake to believe that the attack and battle against Varus' army b e g a n on a march. "prima Vari castra" ... rapiuntur! The translation is not good/correct if the words "prima castra" are translated as "the first camp". It was the summer camp 9 a.D. where he sat in court and it was the front camp - das vorderste Lager - of the Romans (viewed from the Rhine).

I think this video was not that realistic because I did not see a single instance where the armor of a Roman soldier protected him from a sword or spear thrust. In reality nearly all of those attacks from the front or flank would have simply glanced off or had no effect. It is also not that often that a thrust would have landed in a gap in the armor because the armored person would have been moving. If armor were as useless as depicted in this video no one would have worn it at all.

But if there is a Roman officer in your ranks who betrays you ... well, the thing is done. Arminius, being an auxiliary cavalry officer, knew Roman techniques well. The battle began when the Germanic auxiliaries approached the Romans amicably and struck treacherously at the wards.

Germans learned the Romans tactics and fought them on a rain-soaked ground between a forest edge and a marsh … Romans were not familiar with this German guerilla tactic and had the height advantage as well as longer arms swinging lighter axes … they left many Romans impaled to trees !!! … three legions and 15,000 dead Romans … that makes me smile

      Visigoths took Spain
      Ostrogoths took north Italy

I played the rome total war game, and they have this as a part you can play and i will say just from the game its brutal. I can only imagine the horror of that day how mentally and emotionally fucked it was for the romans. Think about how hard it is to constantly keep swinging and jabbing at other men. Blood is running like water with each slash and thrust onto the hands and bottom handle parts of the swords. your other hand is holding a shield and your palms get sweatier as you hold it to push your enemy and protect yourself! After while everything is heavier, and on that day they were in natural marsh lands and fake routes!. which led into muddy land, which unknown to the romans at that moment will make it hard for them to move&fight in certain areas when the germans rush down the hills. And as they came up from the depths of hiding spots the romans could not fight properly they were cut down section by section!
